For me it was "HP" yes it is the book that changed my life, Which made me 'A Reader'

I have two authors to blame really. Agatha Christie when I was six and JK Rowling when I was eight. I guess HP is really to blame for many young adults - today - developing the habit as children.

Julia, yes u said that right 'jk truly is the most influential author for may 'Readers'.

although i read harry i didn't know about it untik i was 12so my novel is left behind for kids i really loved it.it was incredible.

for me it was Roahl Dahl. I remember reading the "Twits" in 2nd grade and became hooked on reading. That was before HP.

Laura Ingalls Wilder. I read Little House on the Prarie series so many times! Definitely gave me a love for reading that has lasted many years.

Where the Red Fern Grows--gift from a 5th grade teacher--had me hooked. Not sure if it's really as good as I remember but it did the trick at the time.

Now wen i think bck it seems The Famous Five, Nancy drew series. Basically Enid Blyton books is wat got me reading :) As a child i jus loved them!

My first book that I was mesermised by was 101 Dalmations! I also loved Roald Dahl's BFG & was a big fan of Judy Blume!

For me it was The Boxcar Children series when I was in 3-5th grades. I owned almost all of them (around 80 I think in the series when I outgrew them.) I look back now and the stories, while good, are hilariously ridiculous. But, they really got me into reading!

Hi Santosh! The book was written by Dodie smith & has a sequal Starlight Barking! For 8/9 year old it was rather magical reading about the "Twilight Barking!!"

I read HP first but the book that really piqued my interest in reading was The Twilight Saga. I was seriously crazy about that series then, continuously quoting lines and things. But i also think it was Enyid Blyton and The Nancy Drew And Hardy Boys Super Mysteries - i LOVED them!

I am Quite Happy, After all i received a Twilight fan(hi there). Now i must say I loved these too.

Books by Beverly Cleary. I started reading them when I was 6 and they were the first "novels" I ever read. I was addicted to them, particularly the Ramona books. I owned most of her books and often reread them. I LOVED them.

I also loved Roald Dahl. My favorites by him were Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Matilda.

There were two books that really hooked me onto reading. It was The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton and Slam! by Walter Dean Myers.

The Outsiders is an awesome book, that would've hooked me too if I'd found it earlier!

For me it semi-started with the Silverwing books by Kenneth Oppel, then I became a complete book nerd (much!) thanks to Harry Potter!

My mom has pictures of me "reading" Dr. Seuss books when I was three years old, although I am sure memorization is a more appropriate word for it. I do recall going through a phase in which I tried to make rhymes out of everything I said, so the good Dr. certainly had a profound influence on me even at such a young age.

For me, it wasn't really a book or even a series of books, it was my Mom. She always said that I could have anything I wanted just so long as it was a book. I did read the Nancy Drew and the Three Investigators non stop as a preteen, though.

I have always been a reader---but the book that made me fall in love with teen reads is Beautiful Creatures.
Since last October, I have bought around 100 teen reads and greedily devoured all of them.

I have read Harry Potter but it was not the book that made me a reader. i became a reader when I was older not when I was a kid. So the book that made me a reader was Fax Me a Bagel by Sharon Kahn which is part of the Ruby a Rabbi's Wife mystery series. It's kind of embarrassing but before I discovered this series, I thought Harry Potter was the only series that existed.

I honestly don't remember what book made me a reader. When I was young my mum used to read to me and when I was old enough to read, I was reading anything from kids' books to YA novels. I definitely remember reading sci-fi novels when I was around 10. I think it was Philip Pullman's The Golden Compass that made me turn to the fantasy genre but I can't remember what book turned to me a reader per se.

hehehe..I loved it. Ihat Guinness came with the encyclopedia. Back then I was intrigued with the worlds weirdness, say, the longest beard, nail or whatnots...I was even hoping I can someday be listed. But of course, as I grew older, I realized how stupid I would look having the longest fingernails.

The first actual book I read, without having to be forced, was Virginia Andrew's Flowers in the Attic. After that I never looked back.
It's funny actually, now I don't even really enjoy Virginia Andrews, I haven't read any of her books in years.
But back then (I think I was about 14)that was the best story I had ever read, I still have the complete series somewhere.

After that Dean Koontz, David Morrel & Sidney Sheldon kept me busy for a while. I had a lot to catch up on... they had a lot of books that was alread out when I was that age.
