kwesi 章英狮 (kwesifriends) | 2752 comments @Mommy Louize: O sige, haha. And here's the thread.

message 1453: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Bennard, my son, I can join you in "Travels" and "Everyman." Not in my priority list but I'd like to read with you. They are slim and thin books too. But give me time, I have "Melancholy Whores" next week. Maybe we can start on Aug 6 for "Travels" and Aug 13 for "Everyman." I also have to look for my copies.

Thank you for your consideration. - Dad

message 1454: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (archiveangel) | 107 comments Hi! Anyone wants to read one or two of these books with me?

Atonement
The Metamorphosis
Madame Bovary
Tess of the D'Ubervilles
The Sense of an Ending

message 1455: by Angus (new)

Angus (angusmiranda) | 4337 comments Shiela: Nice books! I'm currently listening (again) to The Sense of an Ending. It's really short. I believe it can be read overnight. At mas maganda siyang i-F2F. :D

I'm excited to read Barnes. But is it better to experience it in audio?

message 1457: by Angus (new)

Baka nagkasipon siya during the production, hahaha!

message 1458: by Aldrin (new)

Aldrin (fullybooked) | 223 comments I agree with Angus: audiobooks are great for first-person narratives. Another good example is the audiobook for Never Let Me Go. A Visit from the Goon Squad, too, although partially first-person lang sya.

message 1459: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (archiveangel) | 107 comments Angus: Thanks for that tiny, but important detail about the audio book. Will definitely influence my decision. haha.

Aldrin: Thanks for the audio book recommendations. A Visit from the Goon Squad has good reviews so I'll add to my list.

message 1460: by Angus (new)

Angus (angusmiranda) | 4337 comments Aldrin: Can you please bring copies of your audiobooks on Saturday? You'll be bringing a hard drive/laptop diba? :D

message 1461: by Aldrin (new)

Aldrin (fullybooked) | 223 comments I think I can only bring Never Let Me Go. My audio copy of A Visit from the Goon Squad is technically an iPhone app. And my other audiobooks are tied to my Audible.com account. Do remind me about Never Let Me Go on the eve of my departure. Chos.

message 1462: by K.D. (last edited Jul 23, 2012 09:21PM) (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Shiela, I am interested to read with you the following:

The Metamorphosis by Kafka - if we will start on August 13.

Tess of the D'Ubervilles - if we will start on August 20.

If the dates are okay with you, please open the threads, put your preferred reading schedule and we are good to go.

But I checked your profile and you have 11 books in your currently reading folder. Don't you want to clean those up first? They are all good books.

Also, aha! I noticed that you have not finished the buddy book that we had last year (your first buddy book?), Jonathan Franzen's FREEDOM? What happened? I appreciate the honesty though. You did not put it in the Read folder.

message 1463: by Angus (new)

Angus (angusmiranda) | 4337 comments Aldrin: Okay sige, NLMG is a favorite naman. Sana lang hindi ko makalimutang magremind. I have lot of things to remind myself, hahaha!

Hi K.D.!

I have a good excuse for On Freedom: I haven't bought a printed copy yet----I discovered I prefer highlighting and making notes on printed books. But you see, that I've read The Corrections. That's because I found a copy in Booksale:)

I'll borrow my aunt's copy of On Freedom when I next visit her, then I'll send you a link to my review:)

Most books in my currently reading list are on writing (essays, anthologies)----they are references so I'll just delete them.

I'm ok with the August schedules. I have only one book for that month: The Great Gatsby.

message 1465: by K.D. (last edited Jul 23, 2012 09:44PM) (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Shiela, thanks for explaining. It's none of my business really. I just want a buddy who really complies with the agreement though. But if it gets in the way of other more important life tasks, I always understand.

You may now create the links so that we will always remember. They will also be invitations for others to join us. Kafka is a favorite of mine. I've always been planning to read that "Tess" book since I saw it in one of Sharon Cuneta's movies. (^▼^)

Bennard | 730 comments K.D.: What is usually the reading protocol for chapterless books?

message 1470: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Maybe number of pages?

Or daily posts regardless on which page you stopped reading? As long as you read everyday?

message 1471: by H (new)

H | 684 comments Ito ba yung Reading Buddies thread? Bakit naging tagalog na yung title? hehehe. Did I miss something??

message 1472: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments H: Yes, this is that thread. No, you are not missing something. There is a reason for the change but I am not yet in the position to divulge it. (^_~)

message 1481: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Angus, Tina, atbp.

message 1482: by Angus (new)

Angus (angusmiranda) | 4337 comments Hi Kuya, back out muna ako sa Vanity Fair.

message 1483: by Tina (new)

Siguro pagkatapos ng The Historian (dahil mahaba rin iyon). :)

message 1484: by K.D. (new)

message 1485: by Tina (last edited Aug 25, 2012 09:35AM) (new)

Tina (tinamats) | 2665 comments Hello!

Who wants to join us in buddy reading CLOUD ATLAS by David Mitchell? Ang daming fans ni Mitchell eh, so we thought we'd try him out too. And, also, read it before the movie shows in October. Sinong game? Eto na yung mga kasama: Tina, Aaron, Ingrid, Blue, JL, Alona, Beejay, Louize, with eavesdroppers Angus, Monique and Mae. :D

Who else wants to join the Mitchell fans club initiation Cloud Atlas buddy read? :D

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments This book is great. Enjoy! Have fun!

message 1492: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments I just received 2 copies of this book from Matthew Westfall (see the Promotions thread):

The Devil's Causeway The True Story of America's First Prisoners of War in the Philippines, and the Heroic Expedition Sent to Their Rescue by Matthew Westfall

There are 2 t-shirts and 2 cloth bags printed with the book cover's design. Black. Nice.

My wife paid P550 to DHL. I am looking for a book buddy who can:

1. Pay me P275 so I will give him the book, t-shirt and bag
2. Read the book with me
3. Write an honest review
4. Must love war history (WWII here in the Philippines).

message 1493: by Angus (new)

Btw, can I eavesdrop for The Bell Jar? I love Sylvia Plath but I don't think I can read it this month, so I'll lurk na lang. Teyhey.

message 1498: by K.D. (new)

K.D. Absolutely (oldkd) | 6065 comments Actually, I tried a page of THE BELL JAR many months ago. Parang di ko type. So, I need a buddy to read it para mapilitan ako hehe.
