Smellier puppies. I love the way horses smell, but cows have a stink about them. Especially if you're in a rented Ford Econoline with a weanling calf in the back seat. Don't ask.

message 102: by [deleted user] (new)

Mmmmm, they all stink. Horses, cows and dogs...

message 103: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Dogs don't stink! Mine doesn't, anyway. And horses don't either.

Agreed.

Sharp, I would say Chickens smell sharp.

Dog smell never bothered me when I was a kid. And, I still let my sissy's Goliath lick my ice cream. But, I really don't like the smell anymore. Some dogs are smellier than others, at a certain point that's bad dog parents though...

message 106: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes, well, that can be said for humans. I don't smell nearly as sweet as Gracie and I'm sure Sally will admit that no matter how hard she scrubs she can't ever quite achieve that "clean baby smell" Leah has after her bath all lotioned and powdered. Mmmmm, I love that clean baby smell!!!

message 107: by [deleted user] (new)

When my cat comes in from the rain (she likes to play in it and goes out to get soaked over and over and over again so that I can rub her with the towel. I think she may just like the towel) she smells like wet dog. Once she dries the smell goes away entirely. Thank goodness!

I love the smell of her kitten breath. :)

message 108: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments The bad smells I usually encounter when it comes to dogs are usually breath, or lack of bathing, or dog that loves to roll in or eat poop. I'm glad I don't have a dog that does that. Yuck.

Badly cared for horses do smell - the barn will smell like ammonia, and their feet will give off a sharp odor if they have thrush. A clean barn just smells like hay and wood shavings and air and horse.

message 109: by [deleted user] (new)

I like Hay and wood shavings...and, I have to confess that I have VERY little experience with farm animals. I've been a city girl all my life.

Sissy's Goliath used to roll in the opossum poo when we lived at granny's old house. GACK! That smelled like DEATH and you couldn't scrub it off for ages. It would take about 6-8 latherings with LOTS of soap. Eh. No thank you!

Old dog. Yes. Plus there is a definite Hound dog smell.

In my experience stables smell like manure. Whatever lovely hay smells are there, the manure is drowning them out...

message 113: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Robby smells heavenly to me. When I wake in the morning, I want to smell his puppy breath before I get out of bed so I will scratch his head so that he'll snuggle close to me and I can smell his breath. Also, his fur stays clean (thanks, me) and I bathe him in an oatmeal shampoo that smells like milk and honey. Friends and strangers always comment on how nice he smells and feels (his fur is SUPER soft).

They aren't cleaning well enough if that's the case.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Gabby wrote: "How can I avoid seeing updates from everyone rather than just the updates on group discussions?

I have to click on discussion tab each time which I don't like at all..."

THIS is ticking me off. I want to see my group updates, not people updates. I do check my friend updates daily, but hate to hit the back button or home button only to have it reset to the friend settings, when I don't need to check them again and would rather have all of my unlisted group posts.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Oh good, they're fixing it. I just flipped to the next page and saw this. Thought I had posted at the end of the topic.

message 118: by [deleted user] (new)

I always have to click "reply" twice before it pastes the previous comment. Is that just me, or is it another glitch?

Lyzzibug ~Still Breathing~ (lyzzibug) | 708 comments I have the same glitch.

Some people may not be aware: you can set your settings so that all of your comments that you post in every group do not appear in your outgoing feed. You may not care whether or not they do, but if you are a heavy comment poster, your updates are going to fill your friends' feeds, and they're going to see fewer books, and more comments. If your friends are already seeing all your comments inside one or more of your groups, they usually aren't going to want to see them twice.

Just FYI.

You can also individually check or uncheck each comment, below the comment box, where it says "add to my Update feed."

Go to "My Account" (below your avatar on main page), feeds tab, uncheck "Comment on a book or group discussion board" and whatever else you want to uncheck.

message 123: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments That's a great point, LG. I wish more people would do that. I don't open the NSFW threads when I'm in places that might be an issue, but sometimes NSFW pictures appear in my newsfeed anyway because people let their posts show up there.

message 126: by Jammies (new)

Jammies At some point yesterday, Dutch asked about reporting posts on GR, and I can't remember what thread. So I'm just going to post here.

At the bottom of each post in a thread, on the right, are the reply link and the flag* link. The former quotes the post, the latter reports it to TPTB.

message 127: by Brittomart (new)

Brittomart Hey y'all, when I click "(some html is okay)" or "add book/author," the buttons do not work. Am I the only one?

message 132: by Mark (new)

Mark Burns (TheFailedPhilosopher) | 441 comments So... how does one start a discussion without a specific book in mind? So far I'm only allowed choose a book that has nothing to do with the topic, (because no book I've read does anyway), and if I don't it will not allow a discussion topic saying that there is no subject.

message 133: by Lobstergirl, el principe (new)

Lobstergirl | 24778 comments Mod
Are you talking about on GR in general, rather than here in TC?

message 134: by Mark (new)

Mark Burns (TheFailedPhilosopher) | 441 comments Yes... although you could always tell me both if you'd like.

message 135: by Lobstergirl, el principe (new)

Lobstergirl | 24778 comments Mod
You can start a discussion thread in any group you're a member of. The only way to start a discussion outside a group is to start a discussion about a specific book. The way to start a thread is to click on "new" at the main group page where it says all|new|unread.

Goodreads is considering ending its Bookswap program, which takes up much time and resources while not as many people as expected are using it. If you have an opinion pro or con, weigh in:
