I'm so happy for you!!!! <3<3<3<3<3<3<3
You'll all be amused to know that I got thrown in Twitter Jail again last night. I now have a backup Twitter account. I'm not being stuck unable to tweet again.
Char!! You must tweet too much ;PI was up early to sneak into the park and put my gerbil in somewhere nice amongst bushes and things - much better than leaving his body in a bin... just hope I didn't look too dodgy to the early morning walkers!
Am now learning Danish via TV with a day full of more 'The Killing' catch up :S
I do tweet too much. It's all very entertaining though. :PI'm waiting for my brother to finish his book before I can read it. I'll be waiting a long time.
Also it's like Wuthering Heights all over again with Pride & Prejudice so I'm gonna be buying an audiobook. I can't take the pain of reading it to myself. I can't even read it out loud because I've woken up with a cold. My voice has been stolen!!! I'm not being dramatic. I actually can't speak. :/
Ouch, poor Char :(It saddens me that you're having trouble with Pride and Prejudice. When I read it the first time, it took me two days to finish... I devoured it! I guess you're not suited for classics as I am :P
People I look absolutely ridiculous. I am so ill. I can't speak, I can't breathe, I'm drugged up on God knows what and to top it all off I need to sneeze constantly but can't so I'm sitting here with tears streaming down my face! Even tea didn't make it better - oh, tea, how you have let me down in my time of need! :(

I know :(
I think I'm better off listening to classics because I can imagine the scenes better (does that make sense?) and can also concentrate on other stuff. I'm definitely buying it on audio. I will finish it Jeshu!!!
Also... I really really really really want some chocolate. I feel like I need it to survive this horrific day. Darn lactose intolerancy.

I just added
to my TBR pile (I know it's sitting on my mom's bookshelf somewhere...) and I didn't know how much contraversy it created. I'll read it and see if it's just as offensive as some reviews say it is. I'm ready to throw
across the room. I think a "did not finish" shelf is about to be made....
I've only gone online and spent £21.84 on 7 films today (2 are a box set)- that site is a danger to my wallet! They're all mainly B-movie horror films too so should have fun when they arrive next week :SRea - hope you're feeling better by now, if not I'll send you over some soup (I say send, I wanna come with it as an excuse to go on holiday ;P)
No idea where to put this, and I hate the idea that I am butting in while a conversation is taking place, but has anyone here got a Kindle? I'm seriously tempted to get one, the 3G+Wifi and keyboard model, but I have no idea how it would compare to a real book.
I would miss shopping in second hand book shops and I'm worried that sitting there in a cafe with a hot cuppa; reading just wouldn't feel the same.
Anyone share their opinions on them?

I haven't got a kindle- have a sonyereader instead - but I'm still more than happy to read it in a coffee shop :D Plus you (at least I) see so many people doing this anyway with eReaders of some kind that it's just starting to become the norm anyway. Whilst they're nothing like real books they aren't half bad, imo, and it does make shopping for books easier & quicker. As for second handbooks - well I'm not sure how that'd work I'm afraid, sorry.

It's easier to handle and to carry around :) I wouldn't use it to read while drinking coffee, since I'm the queen of clumsy :S And I don't do it with real books either
Thanks for all your input :) for something so small its such a big decision haha. I have always had the view point of traditional books being better and how these ereaders were pointless, but I don't know anymore. Would I rather lug around a 900 page, hardback
or a kindle that contains that book (and thousands of others)? It should be a simple answer really. Looking at book prices it seems the kindle undercuts physical books everytime.
I have managed to get my little sister to lend me her kindle for a week to see how I like it, which is nice of her.

Haha Hayley, feel free! I'm contagious, though! I've already passed it on to at least four other people. :( But Amsterdam's always good for a holiday if sex museums and walking past scantily clad women (or closed curtains!) does it for you. ;) No, we have some cultural things too. We're not all sex and weed and shrooms.

I know what you mean about how the choice should be obvious! I'm tempted by an ereader for all these books that are only available in ebook format. Reading them on my PC kills my eyes for a day afterwards and I'd rather not keep doing that but at the same time I really want to keep reading these books... and yet more at the same time, I don't want to give up my physical paperbacks! There's just something about a physical book - touching the paper, the slightly musty smell of an old, much-loved book...
Let me know how you get on with your trial period with the Kindle!

I've never been to Amsterdam but my sister loved it - and no, she isn't one for traipsing round sex museums and scantily clad women (her boyfriend who went with her on the other hand ;P)

Good idea! We see lots of Asians wearing those in Schiphol so you wouldn't even look out of place!
Hahaha! I've done the red light district many times now. The sex museum was pretty interesting but there are too many people there and you're kinda forced to keep a certain speed in there. I like the historical museums personally. :) And I've even been to the handbag museum, though that one wasn't my choice. :p Utrecht is nicer than Amsterdam, though. Same sort of city layout with the canals and such but not as many tourists (still a shedload of peeps, though), more historical buildings and the best steakhouses around! Mmm!

The screen is so good it is exactly like looking at a page of a book.
I think I could easily get used to it, especially if I buy one of the cases that look and feel like a traditional book.
Going to download a longer book and use it out and about to get a real feel for it. I just don't like that I can no longer leave it in the front seat of my car, etc, as I could with a book. Although this could also be combatted with the previously mentioned case.
I'm almost out of room on my Mp3 player...this means I either remove music or upgrade to one with more storage.I'm thinking about getting an iPod (since I'm now using iTunes) but are they worth the money?
Martin, glad to hear you're enjoying it :D It does grow on you!Rose - my iPod died on me last year - I'd had it since '04 though. iPods are great - wish I could've afforded to buy another one tbh:(
Thanks. I just want to know how long one will last--I don't want to buy something that will break a year from now.
I've not been very well. My depression always gets me around this time of year, normally I lie low for a bit but this year, I've decided that it won't beat me. So I'm gonna try to push through it. I want to be able to say that I'm beating it.
I'm sorry to hear that, Char. But it is great that you are trying to work through it. I get depression in the winter (Seasonal Affective Disorder or SAD- which I find ironic). My worst months are Jan and Feb. My doc has me go to the tanning bed because the bulbs simulate sunlight. I won't be able to do that this year because of baby and I wonder how it will affect me. Hopefully being pregnant will be enough of a happy boost to keep me balanced. Is your depression chronic or seasonal?
Mine's chronic. I have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder PTSD and have done for 7 years now. Late Oct early Nov are bad. Not as bad as March, May & August though. You can get these lights as well that stimulate light. They might be expensive though. No don't go tanning with the baby. Hopefully it will. They say that pregnant women are generally happy.
I've hurt my finger. It hurts. I got some lovely Children In Need wristbands & some old man told me I looked "a mess". Thanks dude. I actually thought I looked quite pretty today.

Aw, that's horrible Char. Stupid old man. I never understand why perfect strangers think its okay to spurt whatever rubbish comes into their head. I always used to get told things like 'cheer up love - it might never happen'. How the hell did they know 'it' hadn't happened and that's why I was looking sad!

Oh no. Hope she gets better soon. :( Apparently if you put porridge oats in her bath it will help soothe the itching.
Have you already had chicken pox yourself, Jeshu?

I know what you mean! My mum didn't get why I was so offended and walking around town ranting about it. I think that the manners of some people leave a lot to be desired. If I walked past someone and said that my mum would hit me or something.
Jeshu wrote: "Victoria has chicken pox!!!! :("Oh no, that's awful. I hated it when I had it. At least she won't get it again though. (I'm looking on the bright side.)
Oh no Jeshu, that's dreadful! My older sister had chickenpox last year and I refused to go visit her for ages as our mum couldn't remember if I'd ever had chickenpox or measles as a child - I really hope you've already had chickenpox!
Has anyone here read Thirteen Reasons Why? It was recommended to me, but seeing so many glowing reviews makes me hesitant to read it. If you've read it, what did you think?
Yes. I have Rose. I adored it. However I think the reason I adored it is because I related to Hannah. I've heard that it's harder to appreciate it if you don't relate to her. I hope that helped. :)
Rather random here but our 81 yr old grandma has finally got online and even got herself an e-mail account - it was rather fun receiving an e-mail from her... bless her li'l cotton socks ;D
Rose wrote: "Has anyone here read Thirteen Reasons Why? It was recommended to me, but seeing so many glowing reviews makes me hesitant to read it. If you've read it, what did you think?"
I found the reasons behind her suicide to be rather superficial. But that could be because I'm older and my emotional scar are very different to the ones Hannah suffers from. I gave it 3 stars, not good but not bad either.

Haha, bless! You'll have to help her to get grips with the exciting new world the internet opens to you! ;)

Oh I will, going home for xmas so will see her then but until that time - instructions shall be given over the phone ;D I think she's the type that'll enjoy t'internet!
THanks for all your sweet words for my little girl <3She hasn't improved that much, but I hope she feels better tomorrow:3

Update on the whole Kindle thing:I hate to admit it but I think I'm starting to prefer it to an actual book. it's so much more convenient and streamlined.
I can have a book in seconds, I can read a book with one hand (drinking tea and reading will never be the same!), I can read while lying on my side and, best of all, I have thousands of books at hand in a small easy to carry device.
