I just finished Spindle's End and I'm having a really hard time liking McKinley's writing style. I feel like it's extremely vague in places where you need details to understand what's happening with the story. I know a lot of people really love her books, so which is the best? I want to see if her best is better than what I've read so far or if I should give up on her as an author.
Traci wrote: "Amanda.. I'm interested to see what you think of I am Number Four. I hope you enjoy it more than I did. However.. I challenge you to a game of How Many Typos Can You Find?!"Traci, I couldn't get into it. I went through 30 pages and gave up for now. I will go back to it another time, I just wasn't feeling it right now. I've heard decent reviews on it.
Cassi, I read Poison Study and liked it. Hope you do too! I was told that the others in the series weren't as good. Anybody who has read them and could comment?
I read Magic Study and was not as in love with it as I was Poison Study. I did not read the 3rd book.
Finished
and I liked it, so now I am waiting for
to come out.I have started reading a ARC of
, so far its okay. Also reading
and its a different take on the whole vampire thing and so far not to bad.
I loved Poison Study, Magic Study was okay, I started Fire Study and couldn't get into it so I put it away for later. I don't know if I will try again or not..
Finished Howliday Inn by James Howe. It was a great book. Now I'm reading The Halloween Joker by Anne Capeci.
I really liked the Study series, especially the first one. The other two had a very disappointing lack of Valek in them, but I really liked them too. Yelena's story and few side characters really drew me into the rest of it and although Valek wasn't a strong presence, it was still enjoyable and I really liked the resolution in the third book. It was very creative.
Just started
and
both on audiobook. They are both middle grade books. So far I am only enjoying The Book of Three. I am not really into The Dragon's Eye as it appears to be a Harry Potter rip off, but unlike Harry, it seems like it is best with just younger readers. I plan to give it one more disk and see how I feel then.
I am reading an ARC of Melissa Marr's Darkest Mercy!! And it is *fabulous.* She gave it to me herself at the Smart Chicks book tour in Jackson Ms!! I'm new to Goodreads and to this group, and I'm glad there's a place to gush about it, otherwise I might start howling from the rooftops, it's that good.
and
The first one is cool, serious, and futuristic! But then I read the prequel first on accident. The second book is for school. ugh.
Ji Mei,I love the Mortal Engines series! And apparently Peter Jackson will be making a movie adaptation ;)
Just curious if anyone is reading "The Familiars." It's a new fantasy series that I wrote that came out on September 7th. Love to chat about it if you are. :)

Hello Bluemoon!
Thank you for the warm welcome. :) I'm sure my TBR pile will increase. I've been reading the posts and browsing through the group shelf. I'm discovering a lot of books that I haven't read and even heard before! Lol. But these books are a welcome addition to my ever growing TBR list. :)

I've read the second book in the stephanie plum series and I liked it.. I will read her other books in the series.. It's light and funny..
I just started
. I've heard really good things about this novel, but so far it's not living up to my expectations. The MC's are just so...hideous. I've read novels before dealing with "bitchy it girls" but rarely with the protagonist being one. It doesn't exactly make my heart soar, since I had to deal with heifers like this in high school.

I finished Poison Study and really enjoyed it. There was a bit at the end that felt a little stilted (especially some of the dialogue). I'll consider reading the 2nd & 3rd but you guys are making me nervous to try.Now I'm between books because I haven't gone to the library yet. Kinda weird being bookless.

Im reading it right now and its not what I expected.
I want to read Maze Runner but my library doesn't have it and the bookstore never does when I stop by. I need to just order it.
Cassi wrote: "I want to read Maze Runner but my library doesn't have it and the bookstore never does when I stop by. I need to just order it."You should get it. Someone suggested I read it, having just read Hunger Games. Although Im not saying its as good as HG because I haven't gone that far in MR yet... :)

Same here, I loved this book a lot (finished it last night). But I prefer The Kite Runner. I think that one was more heart-wrenching and the plot twists were more raw and shattering. But this one was a really emotional read as well, I nearly cried several times.
The Maze Runner was not bad but it took at least 100 pages into the book before I felt I was going to enjoy it enough to keep reading. I am interested in seeing how The Scorch Trials the second in the series is going to be.

I'm currently reading I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusak. Only about 78 pages in, enjoying it so far

At first it seemed that the book would be focused on high school popularity issues, but it ended up covering much more universal topics than that. And I also warmed up to the main character more as I went. I'd give it some more time!

I just finished CUM LAUDE
by Cecily Von Ziegesar. It seems to me that most GOSSIP GIRL fans who have read this first foray into the adult fiction category leave disappointed. Never having read the GOSSIP GIRL series I could judge this book on its own merit. So...what did I think? Not bad--3 1/2 stars. By the end of the story I'd developed an interest in most of these uniquely flawed characters(freshmen starting school at a small liberal arts college in Maine in 1992).
Judging by the ending, and Von Ziegesar's past work, this is only book one in an ongoing series. I'd definitely read book two.
One question for anyone who has read CUM LAUDE: did you think the constant swearing and "baditude" of some of the female characters in particular a little out of sync with the early 1990's?
Laura wrote: "LethalLovely~When There's Nothing Left to Burn, wrote: "I just started

I could hardly stand any of them and only kept reading because I liked the basic premise of the story. Things definitely began to turn as the main character kept reliving her last day with a trial and error sort of approach. In the end, I liked and would recommend the book.
I am currently reading
and have not decided if I like it or not yet. I have just started it, and it is a bit strange to say the least. I am going to keep reading and hoping that I get more into it. I have a little bit of trouble with death being the narrator of the entire book.

Currently reading
. Not sure what to make of it yet. Has anyone read it and what did ya think of it?
I just finished Sizzling Sixteen by Janet Evanovich. It was decent, not her best in the series. Not sure what to read next. I STILL haven't finished Clockwork Angel and I have Beyond the Highland Mist in my to read stack from the library. i'm also trying to finish The Women of the Otherworld Series Bitten by Kelley Armstrong. bitten and Stolen were good, I can't get through Industrial magic, so I skipped it and skipped the first half of Dime Store Magic. I am hopeing they get better or I'm ditching this series.
