Rebecca | 97 comments Ive had the mortal instruments series sitting on my bookshelf for a while now because I was afraid it was going to be bad. Im so glad I finally picked it up. I read all day yesterday and I finished City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments, #2) by Cassandra Clare . It all comes down to City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments, #3) by Cassandra Clare to see if this series is going to be added to my favorites.

I'm reading City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments, #3) by Cassandra Clare . I really like this series. I think it is one of those that has gotten better with each book.

Don't get me wrong.. I'm not disappointed. AT ALL. I actually have the The Mortal Instruments hardback boxset. (waiting... just waiting for me!!)
I've also pre-ordered the 1st book in the Infernal Devices. However, I can't read series books unless they're finished. I've tried it. the same with jumping from one book to another and reading more than one at a time. I dunno? I'm a book freak! haha. That's it.
Nah, it has something to do with my ocd. Yeah, that's it. ;-)

Rebecca | 97 comments I dont think I could wait until a series was finished to start reading it. Especially when I hear everyone else talk about how good it is. I definitely can't read more than one book at a time though. I dont know how some of you do that. I would start getting confused.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Rebecca wrote: "I dont think I could wait until a series was finished to start reading it. Especially when I hear everyone else talk about how good it is. I definitely can't read more than one book at a time thoug..."

If I read more than one book at a time they have to be VERY different. Like a realistic adult book & fantasy YA. Usually I only do it via audibooks. I read 1 thing at home and listen to something else when I drive. Usually even my audio and actual books are different genres/very different voices.

Example: It's pretty easy to read the Uglies series & listen to a Harry Dresden novel at the same time. You could probably even read them without much confusion (or Soulless by Gair Carriger, it has such a distinct voice it would be hard to mix-up)

Lani (crahfty) | 253 comments Ok, so I finished Darkfever and just thought it was ok. I'm now onto Bloodfever and it's getting better. I'm starting to see Mac mature, which I enjoy, because I was more mature than she was at 22 and she's driving me a little nuts...

Crystal Jewell Killeen (ckilleen24) | 40 comments I just finished reading Julie kagawa'sThe Iron King and The Iron Daughter. I Loved them both! I also just finished reading Rachel hawkins' Hex Hall which I also loved! Now I am reading The Named by Marianne Curley and have the second book of this series The Dark up next. Has anyone else read this series?

LOL made sure that I picked it up today....looks pretty good! I also picked up Splendor (Luxe, #4) by Anna Godbersen and Succubus Blues (Georgina Kincaid, #1) by Richelle Mead , because I've really, well, wanted them. I'm currently reading Envy (Luxe, #3) by Anna Godbersen , which is probably something I should add since this IS a "what are you reading now?" thing...hehe

message 2762: by Heidi (last edited Aug 10, 2010 04:37PM) (new)

Heidi Lani I don't know where you posted it, but I know exactly what you are saying about Darkfever (as do Peep, and several others). Mac is totally annoying in the first book and drove us all nuts with her incessant chattering, but she does mature, and get (somewhat) less annoying throughout the series. Stick with it!

message 2763: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Aug 10, 2010 02:58PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Darkfever is one of those books that is quite offputting at first. I wanted to strangle Mac in the beginning. The further that you delve into the series though...it just gets so much better!

message 2764: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (last edited Aug 10, 2010 05:03PM) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Heidi wrote: "Lani I don't know where you posted it, but I know exactly what you are saying about Darkfever (as do Peep, and several others). Mac is totally annoying in the first book and drove us all nuts with..."

Yes, Mac talked wayyy too much! But I also agree you should stick with it.

Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews I'm up to the fourth book in this series and I love Kate. She's tough but not tough to the point where it's annoying. And she's funny! (yes, I am aware that this is yet another series that I like. Yes, I am aware that I claim to not like series.)

message 2765: by Dija (last edited Aug 10, 2010 11:54PM) (new)

Dija Almost finished with Dreamfever (Fever, #4) by Karen Marie Moning and I adore Mac's character. She's one of the purely strong female characters I've come across, not like all the ones that have this really strong side in front of people but collapse into a puddle of self-pity once they're alone or with their knight in shining armor. I really respect Mac and her decisions.

message 2766: by Lori (new)

Lori (tyme2read) Alyssa I am glad youare giving Hunger Games a go, I really enjoyedit and so did my husband. Oh and I know someone who just finished reading the Succubus series and she really like it.

Rebbeca, I don't know if you saw but thre has been 3 more book added to the Mortal Instryment series. City of Fallen Angels (The Mortal Instruments, #4) by Cassandra Clare which has been talked about for a while now and these 2 new ones I just found out about City of Lost Souls (The Mortal Instruments, #5) and City of Heavenly Fire (The Mortal Instruments, #6). #5 & 6 show up under Cassandra's page and are on my TBR list but they don't come up when trying to add a link, sorry.

I finished Cracked Up to Be by Courtney Summers yesterday and started Night by Elie Wiesel I also have Dhampir (Noble Dead, Series 1, #1) by Barb Hendee sitting on my shelf to start from the library.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Just started The Iron King and really like it so far. I was slightly worried because even though I've heard it's YA paranormal our library has it classified as Romance (which isn't my thing). As long as they don't entirely forget the current plot for a relationship I think I'll be happy with it.

Also listening to An Abundance of Katherines (I like it but not sure I like it as much as Looking for Alaska & the other of his books I've read which I can't recall the name immediately)

message 2768: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Cassi did you read Will Grayson? I LOVED it!

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Heidi wrote: "Cassi did you read Will Grayson? I LOVED it!"

Not yet. I'm in a "reading what the library" has phase or waiting till paperbacks.

Christina (librarianchristina) | 2 comments Hi everyone! I'm definitely addicted to YA literature even though I'm a recent college grad...

I'm currently reading The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Perilous Journey (Mysterious Benedict Society, #2) by Trenton Lee Stewart I allowed myself to buy it full price at the store (in paperback, of course) thinking...well someday I could put it in my classroom library (I'm elementary certified). In reality, I just loved the first book in this series so much I knew I needed to own it :D

message 2774: by Traci (new)

Traci Just finished Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer , which is not YA but definitely good. It took a while for me to finish mainly because I'm on vacation with my boyfriend. It's a book that would be best read in one sitting because I was reading only a couple pages at a time and I tended to get confused. But I definitely recommend this one!

I'm about 30 pages into Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver and I'm liking it so far.. it's much faster than the other one :]

message 2775: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments Just finished Keturah and Lord Death which was interesting. It was written in a first person story-telling style I rarely see, which was fun. Odd but very cool.

message 2776: by Dija (new)

Dija Currently reading Succubus Heat (Georgina Kincaid, #4) by Richelle Mead and I thought I couldn't hate Seth more at the end of the previous book, but I was definitely wrong. And despite the fact the main male character is a moron, I still am really enjoying this book. Mead's such a fantastic author.

Stormi (StormReads) (bmreviewsohmy) I'm reading ARC of The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff, I am only about 34 pages into it but it seems okay so far, it is at least holding my attention. Has anyone read this book yet?

I haven't had a chance to read The Mortal Insturment series, though I have heard its pretty good. I guess one of these days I will have to break down and buy the set.

There are so many series that I haven't read because I just sort of got back into reading YA last year..I am sooooo behind!!!

I've read the Replacement. I really, really liked it. I did find the end a little weird/rushed..or something. But I really love the characters and the way things were creepy without being scary. I liked it.

Oh, I figured it was something like that. How does one go about getting an advanced copy of a book that isn't technically published yet? Just curious, I didn't even know they had advanced copies of books! I guess I am a little behind on all of this stuff! :-)

message 2794: by Crystal (new)

Crystal Jewell Killeen (ckilleen24) | 40 comments Okay, so I am a little excited! I just found out that there is a book exchange right down the street from my house!!!! I took 15 books and traded them in for store credit, and walked out with City of Bones( cost 4.99) and a remaining balance of 20.00 on my account! I would have gotten more books but my 3 year old was being a pain in the backside! lol So, I am starting on City of Bones today... I hope I like it! :-)

Crystal, I am in a couple of Book Tour sites where they take One or Two Arcs and pass them around to who ever signs up (or gets picked if to many sign up) I also get emails from publishers who want to know if I want to review a copy of a book to put up on my blog. It has taken me two years to get it to where a lot of people ask me to review..LOL Check out http://princessbookiearctours.blogspo... and http://darkfaerietales.com/blog-tours/ These are the best places to get ARC's
