I don't care if either of you read HP. They are great books so read them whenever you feel like reading them. Just don't look at Wiki in case you ever DO read them. :)

Well I actually own the first one - my bff got it for me because she cares a lot if I read them (or at least the first one). I will get around to it one of these days. :)
Peep wrote: "It's all of the subtle and not so subtle peer pressure that's getting to me."Again, it is in your head!

Sounds more harsh than I meant it! Just meant that I won't pressure either of you to read the series. And I do care if you Wiki it so DON'T! LOL!

You are such a dork Shannen! p.s. look on this thread and see if we are pressuring Peep into reading HP. She is making it up. I see no pressure (except not to read Wiki about HP)!
Shannen I'm not fragile (and I didn't read it as harsh btw (maybe if it was Heidi) (kidding!!))I would ask how different it is from the movie but I know ya'll will just tell me to read it and find out! Waaaaaaaa....
As with any book vs. movie, the book has so much more information and you get so much more involved with the characters.
Shannen wrote: "As with any book vs. movie, the book has so much more information and you get so much more involved with the characters."Especially with the later books.
Yeah my sister hasn't read the books, but she loves the movies. She hates seeing the new ones with me because I'm one of those "It didn't happen THAT WAY" type of people.. I've toned it down much better than I used to, though. The books are obviously better. :p

"that's not what happened, this is out of order, etc..." When I watch it a 2nd time I am better able to separate the movie from the book and just enjoy the movie as a film. Of course there are a few things I still get upset about, but it's MUCH better the 2nd time around. Maybe give it a try. It works for me (if you don't mind going to see a movie twice)
All of this makes me reconsidering reading HP. I havent read them yet either >.<
Don't feel bad Louise, I haven't either. I tried reading the first one with my son at night, but just couldn't get into it. I love the movies though. I figure I'll try picking it up again sometime-I haven't completely ruled it out.I'm on a re-reading binge, I'm currently re-reading
because I just received my copy in the mail yesterday! I love this book!
Mindy wrote: "I am thinking about reading the Glass series, has anyone read it and would you recommend it?"Are you talking about the one that starts with Storm Glass?
Oh and thanks for the Harry Potter encouragement folks! Louise I plan on bringing your name up when I get called out about not reading the books now. :P
Hehe, well atleast im not the only one! ;P Tought i was like the only one here that havent read them
Mindy wrote: "I am thinking about reading the Glass series, has anyone read it and would you recommend it?"Glass series by Maria V. Snyder? If so, did you read the study series first? I recommend you do or you may not get what is going on. I liked the glass series - it took a little bit to switch over from Yelena's POV (study books) to Opal's but once I got used to it I really enjoyed them. There is a new one (3rd?) coming out in Sept I think.
Yea there is a 3rd one coming out in september. I read the first one (storm glass) I liked it except for all the glass making details ;P. To much of it and to often
goodie. I ordered it yesterday =)
Mindy wrote: "Yeah Peep, those are the ones! Have you read them!"
I would read the study series (Poison study, magic study and fire study) like Jaimie recomended before the glass series.

I agree, though I did like Poison Study much more than I liked Storm Glass. I haven't read the second one yet (I had to take it back), but will read it one of these days. I'm thinking you might give it 3 or 4 stars.
I also liked Poison study more than storm glass, but also liked storm glass. What bored me was all the glass making details that happend alot of times for no special reason..
Oh, Heidi I just finished that audiobook a couple of days ago. I thought it had a bit of a slower start but then really picked up as it went. I already put the next one on hold. It's a bummer that audiobooks from my library at $2.25, because I want to listen to the whole series, and that'll start to add up. It'll be worth it, though, because I think these books are even funnier to listen to than to read.
You have to pay your library for audiobooks! That is insane. I finished the first part of it, and it is slower than the first two, so thanks for the heads up!
Laura that stinks! Does your state let you join other libraries for free? You should try that. If not, you could join other libraries but fees vary depending on the library.I belong to four libraries. One local, the other a college library in the next town (pay $10 yr), the other two I use for their digital resources as they are one and 4.5 hours away, but so worth it (free). I was considering NY public library but it's $100/yr!
I'm sure you can find something much cheaper that doesn't charge every time you check something out.
No problem, Heidi. Hope you enjoy the rest of it. It ends with a bit of a cliff-hanger situation.Peep, looking into other libraries sounds like a good idea, and it's actually something I hadn't considered before. I think I can join others for free, because I was also member of the library out where I went to college and there was no fee. I love my county's library because it has an extensive network of locations and they almost always have all the books I want. Regular books are free, and it's also free to request books from the various locations. I do that multiple times a week.
The library in the next county over is not too far from my house. I'm look them up to see if their audiobooks and movies are free. My town also has a college, so I might try their library as well.
Thanks for the suggestion! It would be so nice not to pay every time.
I have never heard of that Laura! My library does charge $1 for DVD's, but that makes sense to me, never for audio books though!
Libraries charge people for things?! I guess I pretty much took the library system where I live for granted until right now. The resources are amazing and everything is free, except of course for late fees & copy machines.
I just finished Teach Me and I loved it. It starts off as a forbidden romance and then sort of switches to an obsessive thriller. Note: if you don't like listening to girls whining about why a guy doesn't like her... ...this book is not for you hahahBut it was really engrossing and I found it hard to put it down!

You get 3 days (used to be two) and then it's $2 a day. We've paid enough to own several dvd's so we no longer check them out, haha.
Dang! My library system is awesome! The only thing I've ever paid for are late fees and even those you can work off if you want by bringing a child to the library and reading to them. You can work off like a dollar an hour and the fees never go above $6 per media checked out. If I really racked up the fees I guess I could owe $18 to the library (six for print books, six for audio books, and six for dvds...). If you hit the $6 mark though you can't check anything out until the stuff is returned and the fees paid. I feel like I have it really nice.
I was really in the dark about that--I had assumed that other libraries had at least some fee for audiobooks and DVDs. Now I feel sort of gypped, lol.
Reading Magic Study. Excited to get back to a good story after reading some lame books like The Mists of Avalon.
I just finished Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter this morning (very different but I really enjoyed it) and plan to start The Thief tonight. I have Magic Study on order at the library!
just started
. I'm not very far, but I realized I probably should have read the previous one more recently.. I don't really remember what happened! ugh. I'm going to start
when I'm finished. :]
Wow, at the library I work at it's three weeks for DVDs (New Releases are one week) and ten cents a day every day they're late. What a strange system, charging for DVDs...Oh and I'm reading Princess of the Midnight Ball by Jessica Day George!
Three weeks for DVD's! That would be great for tv series on DVD. My library is only one week, but it used to be 2 nights!
Heidi- yup! both Lies and the new Sookie came out on May 4th so OF COURSE I had to run to Barnes & Noble right away and get them...I have a problem.
I just finished
. I liked it! I've read a few stories about how the girl wants to be with her best friends boyfriend and this one had a nice twist to the familiar storyline. It's also a bonus that the main character and I share the same first name, lol!
