message 8651: by Emily (new)

Emily (bookqueen79) I just finished Halo (which I really enjoyed) and am about to start Sapphique.

message 8652: by Jessie Leigh (new)

Jessie Leigh (msjessie) Starting The Battle of the Labyrinth (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #4) by Rick Riordan today. Loving this series so far, which has surprised me.

message 8653: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Jessie wrote: "I've always been curious about that series. Which book is the best to start with, or does it even matter?"

They are definitely a series that should be read in order. As Laura said, you should start with Clan of The Cave Bear. This is the order...

The Clan of the Cave Bear (Earth's Children, #1) by Jean M. Auel The Valley of Horses (Earth's Children, #2) by Jean M. Auel The Mammoth Hunters (Earth's Children, #3) by Jean M. Auel The Plains of Passage (Earth's Children, #4) by Jean M. Auel The Shelters of Stone (Earth's Children, #5) by Jean M. Auel The Land of Painted Caves (Earth's Children, #6) by Jean M. Auel

The first one is AMAZING. 2 and 3 are wonderful. 4 & 5, were just good... I haven't read 6 yet, but it is the conclusion.

message 8656: by Daria (last edited May 16, 2011 11:39AM) (new)

Daria (dariadeptula) Finished Where She Went (If I Stay, #2) by Gayle Forman , I absolutely loved it! Now I am reading Song of the Sparrow by Lisa Ann Sandell

message 8657: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Mayer (ashleymayer) | 125 comments I'm taking a break from YA to read Mermaid A Twist on the Classic Tale by Carolyn Turgeon

message 8658: by Arphaxad (new)

Arphaxad | 335 comments Finished If I Stay (If I Stay, #1) by Gayle Forman . Now I've moved on to Young Samurai The Way of the Warrior (Young Samurai, #1) by Chris Bradford for a change of pace :)

message 8659: by Heidi (new)

Heidi So was it too emotional for you Arphaxad?

message 8660: by Arphaxad (new)

Arphaxad | 335 comments Yeah, it was! I didn't hate it, but I was mildly relieved to get to the end. My emotion threshold is shamefully low...

message 8661: by Wendy Darling (last edited May 16, 2011 12:04PM) (new)

Wendy Darling (wendydarling) | 193 comments Arphaxad wrote: "Yeah, it was! I didn't hate it, but I was mildly relieved to get to the end. My emotion threshold is shamefully low..."

I understand that. I often put off reading books (or watching movies) that I know will be tough; and sometimes you just have to be the right mood to be receptive to something, too.

FEED is still kind of intense, so I'm taking a break and reading:

Wither (Chemical Garden, #1) by Lauren DeStefano

message 8662: by Heidi (last edited May 16, 2011 12:05PM) (new)

Heidi Arphaxad wrote: "Yeah, it was! I didn't hate it, but I was mildly relieved to get to the end. My emotion threshold is shamefully low..."

I actually like the sequel more and I think you would too as it is Adam's perspective and he is sort of an angry jaded guy in it. Not as emotional - yet it was emotional if that makes any sense??

message 8663: by Daria (new)

Daria (dariadeptula) I liked them both equally. I thought that Adam's point of view was more angsty than emotional (which isn't actually that much better).

message 8664: by Arphaxad (new)

Arphaxad | 335 comments Yep, I know what you mean Heidi. I figured I'd probably give the sequel a try, since it sounded a bit less intense, and the guy-perspective should help. Plus, again, I can never resist all the good reviews!

@Wendy - How's Wither so far? I'm somewhat put off by the Sad Girl in a Dress on the cover (they are everywhere at the moment!), but I may try to persuade my library to order it nonetheless.

message 8665: by Wendy Darling (new)

Wendy Darling (wendydarling) | 193 comments Arphaxad wrote: "@Wendy - How's Wither so far? I'm somewhat put off by the Sad Girl in a Dress on the cover (they are everywhere at the moment!), but I may try to persuade my library to order it nonetheless. "

Hee hee, Sad Girl in a Dress. I went in with low expectations because some of the reviews have been so bad, but so far it's pleasantly intriguing. We'll see how it goes.

PS--I liked If I Stay a little more than Where She Went, though they are both really great. If you weren't a fan of the first, though, I'm not sure you'd enjoy the second...

message 8666: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I'm all about the heartbroken men so that is why I liked Adam'd POV.

message 8667: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) I read Wither and thought it was better than most dystopian novels, but not a fave of mine. You can check out my review if you'd like.

message 8668: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I want to read If I Stay and Where She Went- but I find that I like emotional books. Crazy made me boo-hoo like a baby.

Which is interesting, because I absolutely can not watch emotional movies. I need romantic comedy, action, or family movies. No Horror or Drama at all. Even if there's one I want to see, I can never actually bring myself to watch it.

I'm not sure why I love them in written form, but not on the screen...

message 8669: by Shelia (new)

Shelia (strawberrypanic-ouran-furuba) I like books that are emotional, but it's not a feature I search for.

message 8670: by Daria (new)

Daria (dariadeptula) I don't like emotional books at all (If I Stay, Where She Went, and a couple others are worthy exceptions).

message 8671: by Arphaxad (last edited May 16, 2011 01:10PM) (new)

Arphaxad | 335 comments Thanks Wendy D and Peep - I'll check out that review!

I'm actually even worse with films than I am with books. My long-suffering family members are always complaining about my being 'allergic to emotion' and always making them watch action films. I'm lucky I have a brother to escape with when the others out-vote us :)

Yay! My Jaimie is back. Can't wait to see what you think of both books.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I just tried to post on this and goodreads lost my comment. I think it is plotting against me. Or angry because I called it out for not emailing me earlier.

Oh and I did officially start The Blue Castle by L.M. Montgomery last night.

message 8679: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Cassi I am so excited to see if that book holds up! I read it so long ago I am worried that it sucks! Gotta love LMM though. And yay for everyone who reads featured author books :)

So far it's not bad. Valancy starts out really mopey but then she realizes "I really suck" and well I'm kind of at that point.

The self-realization is nice. More YA heroines need to realize they suck and decide not to.

message 8681: by Julie (last edited May 16, 2011 05:08PM) (new)

Julie S. I'm reading Grip of the Shadow Plague and In the Garden of Iden.

On an unrelated note, when I walked to the school office to get a library pass, I overheard several teachers raving about how much they loved The Hunger Games series. They were all reading different books in the series, but they were pretty excited. It was almost funny to see their enthusiasm.

Amanda (peanutty222) | 529 comments I just loaned Youth in Revolt (Movie Tie-in Edition) by C.D. Payne , Beat the Reaper by Josh Bazell and But I Love Him by Amanda Grace from the library, I'm not sure which to start with first...decisions, decisions, decisions.

message 8686: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Amanda did you get Beat the Reaper on audio? It is another one of those books that's awesome in audio! It's insane, and not for everyone, but that audio.... yes.

message 8687: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I finished Everwild (Skinjacker, #2) by Neal Shusterman . I loved it! Thank you for getting me started on this trilogy, Becca!

It got a glowing review from me!

message 8690: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (lgcoleman) I'm reading Impossible by Nancy Werlin . I love the cover! I just figured out why I couldn't post the picture on here...we have a super duper firewall at work that wouldn't allow it.

I'm really pleasantly surprised. I went into the series not expecting much, but they're deliciously fun and clever. I think I'll be checking out his other series.

I got the paper version, not audio. It's next on my list to read. I'm curious now...was it any good?? Insane doesn't always equal good. ; )

I'm glad you are enjoying them. So far, ALL his YA stuff has been a blast - leaving me waiting for a new book. Thankfully, with two series going on at once, there is a new book every six months or so!

I think I have a review for it, and it IS good. You should try to get the audio. It's insane, not something I would automatically like, but the narrator was so awesome, I really liked it. I've heard that the book is fun as well (personally I am rooting for the audio!). Insane is a really good descriptor for it (I think you'll agree when you're done with it).
