Young Adult Fiction for Adults discussion
What are you reading now?
I got lost hero back when it came out and realized that I never read it, so I randomly picked it up this weekend when I couldn't get ahold of the smut I was going to read, hah. The pov changes are different, but so far, so good.
Reading and enjoying Benjamin Alire Saenz's Sammy and Juliana in Hollywood. YA Latino fiction by an award-winning writer with one foot in the barrio and the other in the world of letters. Hilarious dialogue, wonderful characters, and a plot that often takes a turn toward the tragic. This is not the Hollywood of "the dream factory."

yesterday, and I loved it! I am starting
today!"I LOVE this series! I cannot wait for the 3rd one to come out.
just finished
I understand now now why some of you didnt like the ending. i agree, i thought it is somewhat how it would end but after the part with prim and the parachutes the rest just felt rushed and thrown together to me. i still enjoyed it but it got 4 stars instead of 5 for the rushed ending.am now going to start
my sister read this series and said it was awesome and she couldnt put it down, i'm excited to find out why!
Holly it took me a few days after Mockingjay before I decided overall it was a fitting end to the trilogy. I had to sit on it for awhile.
I liked Mockingjay too. But I read them all in quick succession and think I went into it with less expectations than a lot of people (ie hadn't picked ships, built up characters, etc)
I agree Amanda...I found Halo a little lacking!! But every book is different for every reader so I hope yu enjoy it Emily!!
so i'm reading
but I really wanted to know if anyone can recommend a french learning audio cd for my drive to work?? really want to learn! sorry for going off topic.
I just started
, rather tentatively. I'm not usually a fan of 'emotional' books, which is exactly what this looks like, so I'm somewhat wary! But once again all the great reviews persuaded me to at least give it a try :)

They have lessons that are specifically made for you to listen to in the car. They have a few different ones. They also have one that has French learning songs for kids. There is one song, Let's Eat, that we listened to like it was a top 10 song it was that fun (for us).
I know you said audio cd, but if you go the computer route, most libraries have Mango languages which is VERY good.

Just finished Wither and I really enjoyed it. I am definitely looking forward to the next in the trilogy. Also, ordered Demonglass today so hopefully I will have it in a few days. Until then I will read The Secret Lives of Dresses.
Reading
and its kinda middle of the road, not good but not quite horrible. And I'm not very motivated to read it. Think I might start
for our monthly author challenge.
I just stayed up until 1:30 in the morning finishing
. For the first third of the book, I kept asking myself, "What kind of freaky world do these people live in? Maybe you have to be Australian to get it." :) But by two thirds of the way through the book, all became clear and I couldn't put it down (although I still don't get why the Territory Wars were ever taken so seriously). Now I've just started
.
The Territory Wars weren't meant to be taken so seriously. I just think that over the years each new group of kids just made them more and more serious until it was out of control.
That's how I thought of it too Wendy. The original 5 were bored so they came up with a game made up of territories and rules. It seems each new year brought more competition until it became an all out war.
Yeah, exactly. And I thought that the importance of it was that what Taylor and everyone thought of as such a serious and important war, was really just intended to be fun and light and was started by a group of best friends.Man, I love that book. I really can't wait to reread it.
Started reading
. Really enjoy it so far especially how the main character relates different parts of her life to music. I think we all get transported back to a different time when we hear certain songs.

So sorry Heidi. I have never won any kind of giveaway in my life. You can imagine how surprised I was. I have entered for lots more since, but no luck.
I've only won one book from the giveaway
- I haven't even read it yet and that was like last year lol

I've always been curious about that series. Which book is the best to start with, or does it even matter?
also, I've been reading the Percy Jackson series. I just finished The Titan's Curse and LOVED it; definitely my favorite thus far. Now The Battle of the Labyrinth. Possibly thinking about checking out Riordan's other series :)
