Haha! what didn't you like about it Heidi?"

Well to be honest paranormal is my least favorite genre, so it was already at a disadvantage before I started. Other than that it was too wordy for my tastes and seemed kind of dumbed down. *backs away and waits for objects to be thrown*

It's OK. As long as you like Harry Potter I won't throw things at you.

While I liked the Golden Compass books, I LOVED Eragon and the two after it. And I wanted to kill Christopher Paolini for making what was going to be a trilogy into a series of four--so what if the third book had 1500 pages! :)

I couldn't get through "Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell".

message 8055: by Heidi (last edited Apr 22, 2011 02:05PM) (new)

Heidi Emily Harry Potter rocks! As does anything by Melina Marchetta, the Chaos Walking trilogy, and Hunger Games :)

Megan | 17 comments Scott wrote: "Megan wrote: "just finished Lockdown (Escape From Furnace, #1) by Alexander Gordon Smith"

Megan, how was this? I got it cheap for my Nook and just haven't gotten to it yet."

It was really amazing, in my opinion :D

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I finished Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell on my 2nd attempt. Not many books actually get a second try from me but I was glad to finish it...don't know what I'd do it again.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Soooooo my whining can stop. They're going to release The Piper's Son by Melina Marchetta on Kindle on April 26. Now I'm debating "pre-ordering" or just waiting until the day since who knows what happens between now and then.

Either way this is major YAYness!

message 8059: by Traci (new)

Traci Heidi, you know what's funny about The Mortal Instruments? I had absolutely no problem reading them the first two times.. I loved every second of it. Then you guys started talking about how wordy she is and so when I went to reread them again before City of Fallen Angels came out, all I could focus on was how extremely wordy they are. Sooo many similes, too. I still love the books but I can totally understand why people would be turned off by them. It was almost hard for me to get through them.... almost. :p

message 8060: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Cassi why can't you load audiobooks on your Kindle? You could have got Piper Son weeks ago on audio.

I feel vindicated! (kinda :)

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Heidi (the original) wrote: "Cassi why can't you load audiobooks on your Kindle? You could have got Piper Son weeks ago on audio."

I could. But I don't know when I would listen to it on my kindle. I normally listen to audiobooks while driving (hence why I prefer CDs). And my ipod is broken (And I just need to buy a new one or something else new because it's been out of order for months now).

I've thought (and rethought) about downloading the audiobook but I wanted to make sure that I would use it before I did.

message 8063: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Oh ok. Makes sense. I use my ereader all the time for audiobooks because it has an external speaker so I was just wondering. I walk around the house with mine, listen to it before I go to bed, and even listen to it in the car! I love items with external speakers (as long as you have good hearing :)

message 8064: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I used to use my Kindle for my Audio books, but then it got shocked once when I was cleaning and it went Haywire with only have the screen showing and my items slowly deleting. I had to do a harddrive reboot in order to fix it and now I'm too nervous to walk around with it cleaning, so I switched to my iPhone.

message 8065: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Ouch Wendy! That is scary.

message 8066: by Erin M (new)

Erin M (erinm_reads) The Book Thief by Zusak
&
Feast of Fools by Caine

Always seem to be reading two books at once, with just finishing The City of Bones the other night. New to goodreads so any tips and tricks would be great. =]

message 8068: by Stormi (StormReads) (new)

Stormi (StormReads) (bmreviewsohmy) reading Dark Mirror (Dark Passage, #1) by M.J. Putney Alice in Zombieland by Lewis Carroll Dreamfever (Fever, #4) by Karen Marie Moning

I was liking Dark Mirror then it took this turn where it went from the 1800's to WWII at least now I get where the mirror comes in since she fell through a mirror, but I just wasn't expecting it so I don't know how I feel. :(

Lloyd | 415 comments I recently finished Young Samurai The Way of the Sword (Young Samurai, #2) by Chris Bradford and enjoyed it so much I just jumped right into Young Samurai The Way of the Dragon (Young Samurai, #3) by Chris Bradford . At this rate I'll just keep on going until I am forced to wait for a new book.

Ali | 106 comments Finished Alanna The First Adventure (Song of the Lioness, #1) by Tamora Pierce and it was quick and good. Now starting In the Hand of the Goddess (Song of the Lioness, #2) by Tamora Pierce

message 8084: by Traci (last edited Apr 25, 2011 11:42AM) (new)

Traci started World War Z An Oral History of the Zombie War by Max Brooks today for my Apocalypse class. It's okay so far.. but that means I'm not going to be able to get back to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Hitchhiker's Guide, #1) by Douglas Adams for a while :(

message 8085: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jsills3) | 159 comments Just getting ready to start The Queen of Attolia (The Queen's Thief, #2) by Megan Whalen Turner

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Finished Ashfall (Ashfall, #1) by Mike Mullin . Not bad. Better than Gone (which I know some ppl liked and I didn't), not as good as Uglies/Hunger Games/Chaos Walking.

It's weird I'm between books right now. Tomorrow I'm supposed to get Piper's Son on my kindle so I don't really want to start anything now. It's weird not to have a real book started.

LOL. No objects being thrown here. Everyone has different tastes! What books do you enjoy?

message 8088: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Cambria I generally like just normal character books (anything by Melina Marchetta, North of Beautiful, Anna and the French Kiss, Book Thief). I also enjoy some fantasy (Finnikin, Daughter of the Forest) and dystopian books (Hunger Games and Chaos Walking series).

Glad you're enjoying it. I got stuck in another couple of books at the moment, but can't wait to get back to this. This book makes me want to do some character design sketches...

message 8097: by Julie (new)

Julie I'm halfway through Matched (Matched, #1) by Ally Condie . I've been on the waiting list at the library for it since January so I'm not really as excited about it as I was before. It's not bad though, pretty much as I expected.

Arphaxad | 335 comments I started Siren (Siren Trilogy, #1) by Tricia Rayburn this evening. I wasn't expecting to like it, but ended up accidentally extending my dinner break by about an hour and a half to avoid putting it down! Ah, the danger of books :)
