Young Adult Fiction for Adults discussion
What are you reading now?

I have The Piper's Son, [book:River Marked|808..."Try the Immortals After Dark series, or the Psy/Changeling Series. My ratings for the individual books run the gamut, but I loved them both, more than BDB (it's been a while since I've read BDB admittedly).
I recently joined another YA group and I have to say...I definitely like this one the best. I'm well beyond such exciting topics as "Vampire or Werewolf?" I don't think my membership is going to last long there.
Will all this talk of "cheesy goodness" and the BDB make me someday try it out?Perhaps...since I'm secretly reading other cheese at the moment.
I've got a shelf full of books but I think I'll read
next...then i may go with either
or
and then I'll start in with
followed by
...oh yeah and I've got
...I better get started...got a lot of good books to read!!!

Depends on what kind of cheese you're looking for...it's vampire romance/borderline erotica with a bunch of guys who have identity issues. I sound like I'm bashing the thing, but I'm not (it's not my favorite adult series by a long shot, but I'm a fan). I just figured you'd want a warning, and that it wouldn't hurt to disclaimer that it's very tailored to women being a romance.
As for the other YA groups, have you considered something a bit more genre specific? If you pick one with a more sci-fi type bent for example, you often get more of a cross gender mix, so the conversations tend to stay a bit more neutral and less immature.

Oh please check it out Lloyd! I would love to hear your thought on BDB! You could go where few men have gone before - at least straight men. Who knows, you may even like it. :)
Hmm...that might not be my kind of thing, for sure. I know it's such a guy thing to say, but stories that hinge on "romance" instead of an actual plot/story don't tend to hold my interest for long. Thanks for the warning. :P
As for groups...I don't really have much time to explore boards and reply, etc. Which is why I'm so off-topic here. :)
Lloyd wrote: "Hmm...that might not be my kind of thing, for sure. I'll post in a discussion and by the time I come back everyone's talking about something else entirely.

Plus...I haven't read enough of either book to call them cheesy OR good. Yet. One is QUITE popular (or was) the other probably not so much. I'd never even heard of it until I stumbled on it via a recommendation.
Catie wrote: "Really? It's that big a secret, huh? Wow...this must be a really good one. I can't wait!Okay, one more guess...
??P.S. Hope you don't mind my razzing you Lloyd...."
Ding ding ding!!!
(sulks into the background)
And since my shame is revealed, the other book is
.Nice guess Catie. It was the "popular" comment that gave it away, huh? :P
I'm going to go draw in my notebook now. Maybe I'll start using hearts to dot my "i's" now too. Right after my pedicure.
Finally am getting to Bumped
. I got this from NetGalley months ago, but could never read it because they took away the Kindle option and it would never download to my comp.
Catie wrote: "Actually, I totally picked that one as another joke! I didn't see your other comment until I had posted my last guess. But, I can't wait to see what a grown man thinks about that book. Also, I..."
Poison Study is actually pretty good. Another one of the things I LOVE about the Kindle is not having to be embarrassed by book covers. :)
As for an official review of Twilight...we'll see. I'm still not admitting "officially" that I'm reading it. It will be our secret here on this group. (though I did admit it to my wife too) :)
Haha! No need to feel girly, Lloyd - my (very manly) brother has read both and loved both! He's even given up trying to avoid admitting it in public. Extra man-points, I say, for being open-minded enough to try it in the first place :D
Hear hear! I agree with Arphaxad. My husband has read the first one, couldn't finish the second one just because it wasn't his style, but he didn't loose any manliness for trying.
My brother read them. I was concerned. But then again he's totally whipped and more likely to be the Bella than the Edward in his relationship situation.
Lloyd wrote: "*sob* Thanks everyone. It's nice to feel accepted no matter what I'm reading. :P(lol)"
hahaha! Loved Poison Study and the author is a member of our little group here (just to prove again how great our group is). Lloyd I can't believe you are reading Twilight, but then again I can't believe I read it myself. The sad thing is I hated it and then went on to read the whole series. How silly was that?

That is so nice you can share books Catie. My hubby and I will have to stick with tv shows (and only certain ones as he is a snob!)
Heidi (the original) wrote: "I am very concerned about this one. Can an author go from chick lit to dystopia? Hmmmm.... "No.
Catie wrote: "My husband recently read

Just started
on Friday. I heard so many good things about it, I thought I'd read it myself. I like it so far :) If you notice on my currently reading list, I have a bunch of books:
but I'm just finding it so repetitive,
...so big and overwhelming so I'm having a hard time getting through it since it's hard to take with me everywhere. Frustrating. I need to finish the damn book already! I want to see the movie and I refuse to see it until I read the book since they always leave SO much out. Meh :/ But I'm really liking Looking For Alaska so far.
I'm working on finishing
and just started
. I'm taking a break from
because the other two are due back to the library first.

bwhahaha
I love that my husband reads, but he's like Catie's hubby in that he only does one, maybe two books a month if they're short, and they're usually audio books because he is on the road constantly. He loved Hunger Games and Ender's Game though, so a good start.
Tracy Wrote: It's for a class called "Narratives of the Apocalypse" haha.. we also read , , and will be reading next.
That is so cool Tracy! May I ask, is it a Literary course or Humantities course and why are you taking the class?

I just read the second book in that series! I don't think the cover on that one is good, it doesn't do a good job at showing how the books are. I love her Psy/Changling books more.
