Started listening to
(BTW I finished
-- I quite liked it. Felt educated by the end. But stage side-effect I'm now more scared of another ice age rather than global warming).Going to start
tomorrow. I meant to start it tonight but I planted lettuce instead (because I think I need a lighter read but this is a library book so it's what I've got).I kinda wish
was out already because I need something silly.

Yay Cassi! I just got the audio for Water for Elephants too. I started it a while ago and there was something wrong with the download so I've been waiting over a month to finish. I love both narrators! I hope you like it.
Yeah! I finally got my stupid Amazon order and started
and then I am starting
. I figured I would get the light and funny one done first since it sounds like Piper's Son is a little on the heavy side
I'm about 50 pages in and it's already heavy. It reminds me a bit of Jellicoe Road like that. I've already shed a tear or two.
I'm actually reading
on paper,
on my Kindle and listening to
. And I will put them all on hold for
!!
I'm currently reading
and should be done with it hopefully today. Then I might go back to Hell Hall.
Wow, I haven't been on here is a while and I missed a lot of stuff..just not going to read it all..LOL I do have to say something on Steven King though..HE ROCKS! One of my favorite books of his would be
:)
Finished
and am probably one of the only people that didn't love it right off. The last few chapters did pick up and redeemed the book enough that I'll read the next one, but it took quite some time before I became invested. After (view spoiler).Moving on to
and

Actually Stacia most people said it really picked up in the 2nd book. I was odd because I loved it from the first one.
I liked the first one, but I agree with Stacia on when it really picked up. I didn't love it until the second.
Stacia ~ Mistress of Mediocrity wrote: "Finished

Did everyone hear they picked Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss? All official and everything.I'm happy. Half the people are ranting about race. I just don't get why everything has to be about that. I want the best actress based on talent.
I saw that about Jennifer Lawrence. I hope it is not a repeat of Twilight where they pick an indie actress and try to make her into a major motion picture actress. I think that experiment failed.
Heidi I wrote: "I saw that about Jennifer Lawrence. I hope it is not a repeat of Twilight where they pick an indie actress and try to make her into a major motion picture actress. I think that experiment failed."Have you watched any of Winter's Bone (I've just watched clips and trailers). She carries that movie and is pretty much like Katniss in the clips. That's what won me over.
I think Kristen Stewart is just awkward. Jennifer Lawrences seems to be more socially adapted.
My point was I actually kind of liked K Stew before Twilight brought out all her flaws. Some actors are just better in smaller movies. I don't know if that applies to Jennifer or not. I have not seen Winter's Bone, just clips.
Heidi I wrote: "My point was I actually kind of liked K Stew before Twilight brought out all her flaws. Some actors are just better in smaller movies. I don't know if that applies to Jennifer or not. I have no..."The clips sold me. I just think Katniss is going to be a harder role to pull off (People compare it to Harry Potter but Hunger Games is waaay darker).
I was okay with K Stew when she was in "Into the Wild" Maybe she just does better with smaller roles and less media demands?
"I was okay with K Stew when she was in "Into the Wild" Maybe she just does better with smaller roles and less media demands? "That is what I mean! I liked her in Into the Wild. I am just hoping the same thing doesn't happen to Jennifer since Winter's Bone is also a small indie movie. Perhaps I am being unclear?? Sometimes that happens!
I was just making sure I knew what you meant. I think part of the difference is that Jennifer Lawrence carried Winter's Bone as the main character whereas Kristin Stewart had a small role in Into the Wild (such an excellent book and movie). I think carrying a movie is very different from being good in a small part.
At this point I think Jennifer Lawrence is the best choice I've seen offered for Katniss (some of the others made me want to curl up and cry) so I'm happy. There is no recipe for movie success though so we'll just wait and see. I'm mainly frustrated that so many people are pulling the race card. I just don't think that should be the main factor when race really isn't a factor in the book.
Heidi I wrote: "I get you now Cassi! What do you mean race card??"Katniss is described as "olive skinned" and she's a blonde. People are calling RACIST all over the Internet. Katniss was racially ambiguous. That means white is okay too!!
Why does skintone matter more than accent? Accent is HARD to fake too? (Lawrence is from Kentucky which would be District 12 you know. I just realized I live in District 12....)
Heidi I wrote: "Wow that is petty of people Cassi! I know she can dye her hair - no big deal there."I know. There are people on twitter (okay admittedly there are a lot of dumb people on twitter) saying they won't see the movie because she's soooo wrong for Katniss blah blah blah. Annoys me!
Remember the huge uproar over R. Patz before Twilight? Then all of a sudden all these girls and women loved him. I am sure it will die down Cassi. She was on the Bill Engvall show Carmel.

I didn't like Twilight so I never paid attention LOL. Personally I am happy with the casting, the author is happy, the director said it was the easy casting he'd ever done. Good signs.
I wasn't into Twilight either. It was just all over my EW and the web so it annoyed me! I think you need to step away from the Twitter Cassi!
Heidi I wrote: "I wasn't into Twilight either. It was just all over my EW and the web so it annoyed me! I think you need to step away from the Twitter Cassi!"There are many times this is true. I get sucked into trying to be the voice of reason on twitter way too often! Sometimes there is no reasoning!

I have no problems with Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss either. I don't have a problem with her skin tone (Olive skinned does not automatically make you not caucasion, nor is skin tone a good reason to ax an actor good for the part). I could understand the uproar if they hired a caucasion to play Rue, but I'm sure they wont. It would be one thing if there was great emphasis put on her looks, for instance if her Italian (im making this up) heritage and jet black hair were what caused her to be chosen for the Hunger games, and the movie was about how the Capitol targeted those who weren't blonde, lmao. But its not. Just because the book says that the people in the village of District 12 were blonde and fair skinned, and the people who worked the mines in District 12 were Olive toned brunettes doesn't mean that they have to keep that little tidbit in the movie. The fact is that they probably wont keep that in the movie even if they do dye her hair.
Whether Lawrences hair is blonde or brunette, or she's a shade less then Olive Skinned, is not going to make or break the movie. But if she acts the whole time like she's constipated (K Stewart) it will. Talent before looks, in my opinion.

But if she acts the whole time like she's constipated (K Stewart) it will. Talent before looks, in my opinion. YAY! We're in agreement. I don't think people realize what they're arguing for in movies. Race/looks should not be the deciding factor. There's just something very wrong with that.
I hope they at least get her hair color right. She is supposed to be brunette right? They can dye her hair and I hope they do. I still can't get over all the inconsistencies in Vampire Diaries (the show vs books) I am not caught up on the show though so please no spoilers... But Elena is BLONDE (in the books).
If they cast Hunter Parrish (because yes, he's considered by Ross now!) as Peeta, I'm sure I won't give a damn about Katniss or Prim or any other character anymore, haha. XD
