Kurukka Now that I'm done with Wuthering Heights, I'm about to start The Titan's Curse (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #3 ) by Rick Riordan . It's been a while since I read the previous book, and I need something light, all rainbows and ponies, lol.

message 7052: by Brandie (new)

Brandie Sump Cecelia, you should love "Titan's Curse" especially Thelia and her hatred of Artemis, due to a specific reason and Annabeth is the same way, hating Artemis and her hunters for another reason. Also the Artemis and Apollo part is so funny and reminds me of Dayna and her brother James so much.

As well I feel so sorry for Nico, a new character in his book, because of his god parent and how he is treated by that parent and his sister Bianca. Also I think Nico is so cute, and another fictional crush for me, and it would be awesome if all the rest of the Percy Jackson series were made into movies so I could see him "in person." The first one "The Lightening Thief" was made into a movie and premiered in theaters in Feburary 2010.

Jamie (bookworm20) | 67 comments Just finished Camille by Tess Oliver and Second Chances (Fabulous Four, #1) by Christina Corlett .The USPS site said that The Piper's Son by Melina Marchetta was delivered, but I don't see it. :( I had it sent to my office, so maybe it missed the mail run...hopefully I'll get it tomorrow. I hope I hope I hope. So now I am going to read Simply Irresistible (Lucky Harbor, #1) by Jill Shalvis to pass time and cheer me up....*sigh* Where oh where has my Piper Guy gone?

I'm still stuck on Chapter 9 of Wuthering Heights because I keep putting it off for other books I haven't read lying on my shelf lol! Hopefully I'll pick it up again soon. I don't know... It was compelling but depressing both at the same time?

I had fun with the Percy Jackson series! Can't wait until you get to The Lost Hero (The Heroes of Olympus, #1) by Rick Riordan , that was my fave. :)

Brandie Sump As well, everyone I have decided to start a discussion group for praises and gripes about Stephen King's books, stort stories, on this website, and how they inspired or had movies based on them "supposedly," because of the recent reading from some members in this group of Stephen King's IT ok?

Anyway if you wish, look up the discussion and let's start k?

Have Fun!

Lloyd | 415 comments I tried to watch The Lightning Thief and couldn't make it past the first half hour. I thought the acting was horrible and the training battles and fights looked so...staged and fake. I'm not sure if it was a case of enjoying the books SO much that the movie just didn't hold up, or if the movie was really bad. But after not even 1/2 hour...I shut it off and decided to stick to the books.

Hmm can't remember if I liked the movie, it was just ok and I didn't bother to think about it again after watching it. I remember I was curious on how they would recreate it on screen. I think I was excited to watch it mainly because of the actor who played Percy. He's kind of cute lol!

About the books, I keep remembering that every time there's a scene at the Empire State, he would describe the cover of the book the guard was reading haha... If you've read it you'll know what those books are.

The movie was horrible compared to the books. I didn't even hate the movie for the sake of entertainment value, but it failed to capture the humor and tone of the books (and left out or changed way too many details), so it was a huge disappointment.

Jess (jess_readsromance) I'm currently reading This Side of the Grave (Night Huntress, #5) by Jeaniene Frost :D FINALLY!

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I stayed up and finished The Goose Girl (The Books of Bayern, #1) by Shannon Hale last night. It was just delightful and charming.

message 7063: by Jess (new)

Jess (jess_readsromance) I watched the Percy Jackson movie. It's okay, they've changed soooo many things and cut out a hell of a lot of stuff. So its more of a film for people who aren't big readers and won't pick the books up. It was just okay, if they make a second one, I'll probably watch it.

Well, there's a lot of angst, and it's a pretty violent book, psychologically speaking. But I really enjoyed it because it touches difficult themes and it doesn't end that bad, frankly. If you finish it and look for a movie, I recommend you the movie from 2009 : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1238834/ it's really good ;)

I saw the PJ movie before begining to read the books but I had enjoyed it though it's not a great movie and, of course, can't compare with the series.

message 7065: by Tina ♥ Bookaholic (new)

Tina ♥ Bookaholic (martinabookaholic) Yesterday I've started with Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier and I'm already in the middle of the book and I like it so far. It's an interesting storyline and I also like the main character. It's nice and a sweet YA fantasy novel.

message 7066: by Gwennie (last edited Mar 15, 2011 07:00AM) (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Percy Jackson movie was alright if you haven't read the book. I read the book and then immediately saw the movie, which was a huge mistake. So much was changed. And the charm of the books was completely lost in the movie.

Not to mention that they were all much younger in the books then they were in the movies. Percy was more like 12 or 13, in the movie he was a strapping 17 year old.

BUT, my daughter loves it, lol. So alas, I will keep watching it.

On another note, I realized this morning that I only watched the adult half of the movie 'It', lmao. I told my friend how I was upset because it barely touched on the kids lives and how they handled Pennywise at all. And that I felt like so much was missing. She started cracking up and asked me if I turned the disk over. Pretty funny! The only two sided DVD's I've seen before had wide screen on one side and full screen on the other, I had no idea it was a continuation. Apparently I only watched part 2.

Thanks! I'll look for that movie after I finish the book. I'm determined to finish it even if it takes me the whole year! haha... It's talked and written about for a reason and I'm curious :)

I hope you'll like it ! I've been pleasantly surprised, anyway. :)

LOL Wendy, that's the kind of thing that could happen to me. No wonder you felt frustrated XD

Catie, you should watch it then. I thought it was better than the movie from 1993, especially because they took their time to fully explain the story. The movie from 1993 felt so rush to me. I spent five days reading the book and in barely two hours, I felt the story was being shoved down my throat. It's not exactly as the book but they managed very well to adapt it. Even if you haven't read the book, it's very enjoyable and Tom Hardy is a damn good actor. *_*

@Jessieee: It does! I read The Hunger Games and Catching Fire thrice and Mockingjay twice because I reread the whole series again after reading Mockingjay when it came out. Can't wait for the movie! Hope they pick a great cast! (hmm.. starting to sound like a fangirl lol)

I tried to watch that but if I remember correctly they changed the cast after the first season and it confused me. Or originaly it was a movie? Now I can't remember but it kept comingup on my recs from netflix and I tried it out and I got all sorts of confused.

message 7078: by Jody (new)

Jody Kihara (jodykihara) | 169 comments I'm not sure if it quite counts as 'Young Adult for Adults' as the main character is 11 years old rather than teenage, and the book sits on the adult shelves rather than YA... but Alan Bradley's 'The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie' is the best book I've read in years! It's a murder-mystery, but very character-driven, and SO funny. I don't know how to recommend it highly enough...!
And for those who haven't read any of this series yet, you now have THREE of them awaiting you! Whereas I have to wait a YEAR for the next one... sigh!

Heidi I would def. say it is YA Jody. I listened to the first book on audio, but it was not my thing. I am not into science so perhaps that was the problem.

Heidi I know a lot of people in my mystery group and my audiobook group love that series Jody, so I don't want to discourage anyone!

message 7081: by Lori (last edited Mar 15, 2011 12:28PM) (new)

Lori (tyme2read) I tried this series and could NOT get through the first book. It was for a bookclub read. It was the first time since I was a teen (long time ago, lol) that I have not finished a book. I have finished books I didn't like much because once I start it I feel I have to finish it. BUT I could not do it with Sweetness.

That being said, most of the other women in the group did really enjoy it. Just wasn't for me.
