Gwennie (blessedwannab) I just finished Hold Me Closer, Necromancer by Lish McBride . I acutally liked it more then I thought I would. I heard it's a series but theres no news on the next one.

Now I'm going to start It by Stephen King , which is not YA, but my friend wants me to read it.

message 6652: by Lori (new)

Lori (tyme2read) I just finished I Am Number Four (Lorien Legacies, #1) by Pittacus Lore and The Iron King (Iron Fey, #1) by Julie Kagawa both were good. Even saw the movie I am Number Four it was good but as always the book was better, lol.
I am now reading Crescendo (Hush, Hush, #2) by Becca Fitzpatrick and Queene of Light (Lightworld/Darkworld, #1) by Jennifer Armintrout I am not too far into either of these yet so not sure which will be finished first, lol

Yay I'm not alone. I just hate that it started so strongly then descended into unhealthy obsession

SPOILER POTENTIAL MY WARNING ALL CAPSNESS

I hate the perspective "oh the boy is gone I guess I'll just die now." UGH SO UNHEALTHY. And yes the MC was selfish all along but the way she forgot about her family just because of a cute boy really bothers me. Matt & Maggie loved her. She promises to call if she can. But totally just forgets about them for a good portion of the book. But I think the end when she said she didn't care about living anymore really REALLY killed me because I was having Twilight flashbacks.

END OF MY SPOILERS I FEEL BETTER NOW

I started Hex Hall again. First few pages "Magic Doughnut" appears and I'm already snickering. Oh Sophie. Lets go on an adventure together.

Sara (rose081900) | 177 comments I'm reading Trickster's Girl by Hilari Bell , Raising Dragons (Dragons in Our Midst #1) by Bryan Davis and The Awakening (The Vampire Diaries, #1) by L.J. Smith .

I am hoping to finish all three before the end of February. I haven't done much reading this month. SIGHS!

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments Catie wrote: "Thanks for helping out all of us poor non-Australian Schmoes over here Carmel! That book looks really cute.

Hey Brittany, so what was the final verdict on MI?"

I gave it 2 stars, but only Book #1. I will probably pick up Book #2 but I'm in no hurry. I posted a spoiler free review for those interested. I've heard the series gets better, but I'm just not sure I can put up with the overly wordy bad writing.

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments Emily (Super Reader Girl Reviews) wrote: "Yay for Tamora Pierce! :) Is this your first read of hers, Brittany?

I still haven't read the BDB books!"

Yep, first time with Tamora Pierce. I've heard so many good things about her stuff though.

And the BDB books are addicting. I was teasing these girls because I've gotten spoiled on a few things through conversation. Nothing major though. When I finally catch up that won't happen. But I could never read them back-to-back. Or on audio as Heidi so bravely chooses to do. I still love Vishous, even if the ending of his book sucked!

Shannon (shann0n) | 0 comments A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. It's a book that's right up my alley, but I am reading it very slowly and I have no idea why, which is frustrating!

I loved this book. I will be very interested to hear what you think.
I am reading Shadowfever. Not sure I am ready for the end...

Stephanie (Bookfever) (bookfever) Started One Foot in the Grave (Night Huntress, #2) by Jeaniene Frost ^^

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Catie I really want to read Shipbreaker and comparing it to the Knife of Never Letting Go kind of guarantees I will.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Catie wrote: "You really should Cassi - it's just awesome. I'm almost done (it's only a little over 200 pages). It's really kept me at the edge of my seat through out, and it has a lot of the same themes as TK..."

YAY!

So my reread of Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins is making me laugh out loud and tweet particularly awesome lines.

Came across this gem in the prologue (not spoiler at all)

"It's okay baby! I don't need eyes to see you! I see you with the eyes of my heart, Felicia! My HEART"

"Great. Not only was my spell too strong, it was also lame."

HAHAHAHA, and I read Bad Dog again, and about the magical doughnut. I'm in happy reading happiness mode right now!

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 325 comments Catie wrote: "I ended up starting Ship Breaker (Ship Breaker, #1) by Paolo Bacigalupi this afternoon and it's really amazing - very much deserving of all the praise and awards it's gotten. It reminds me a bit of Once Dead, Twice Shy (Madison Avery, #1) by Kim Harrison audio and I didn't love it. I got it from the library and I may continue the series if I can get the next also from the library as well. 3 stars.

I am still reading Fallen (Fallen, #1) by Lauren Kate on Kindle. Not sure what I think of it. It seems a bit redundant and predictable so far. I am a bit frustrated with how long it is. Seems to be taking forever to finish but that may be my multiple books habit :-P

Also reading The Lying Game (The Lying Game, #1) by Sara Shepard on my Sony (also from library) I am enjoying it so far.

I am trying to decide if I want to finish both of those before starting something new... or if I want to start Nightshade (Nightshade, #1) by Andrea Cremer (in paper) or Crank (Crank, #1) by Ellen Hopkins in audio. I think Crank. Then I will start Nightshade when I have no others in progress... Ya right. I am polyamorus with my books. <3

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Emily (Super Reader Girl Reviews) wrote: "Cassi, I remember "Bad Dog" but not the doughnut! Or that eyes of my heart part - I may need to re-read/skim as well! :) Such a fun book!

Those were just hilarious quotes from the prologue. I also like Sophie's description of humidity in the south. She said something like she'd always wondered what it would be like to live in someones mouth. Sophie <3

Heidi Catie I HATE YA books that dumb down things! It is a major pet peeve of mine.

On a side note I was going to skip Hex Hall because I thought is was just ok per earlier comments, but now everyone is raving about it. I am so confused!

I really liked Hex Hall because it's a fun read. So many paranormals are so emo and take themselves so seriously. This one has a more upbeat writing style and lots of personality. It's a fun book with a really likable main character. It's got a good mystery that it builds but Sophie & the authors voice is what really stands out to me.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Catie wrote: "It seems like it would be a cute, fun read for an easy afternoon - probably won't blow my mind, but a nice break. That's what I'm hoping!"

I think what makes me like Hex Hall is that it's unique. Right now YA has so many end-of-the-world Dystopians and paranormal I-Love-You-So-Much-I'm-Going-To-Die books right now. I'm trying to think of a happy fun YA that I've read recently and there just aren't many.

Sometimes I just want something happy with a little bit of magic thrown in. Is that so much to ask?

message 6671: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Catie let me know what you think about Hex Hall and I may give it a try. Thanks!

message 6672: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Cassi I totally like to throw in light books so I don't get too overwhelmed. Books like Anna and the French Kiss just hit the spot sometimes!

You said Hex Hall was cute in your review. I am steering clear or Paranormalcy. Why????

I'm about to read two books that I find very fun (next Hex Hall installment) so I'm saving Anna and the French Kiss to I get in a dreary (and some books are dreary & excellent) book rut.

message 6684: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) I've had it for a while and paid a hefty price for it. Well, not hefty, but more than my usual budget. Good lot it did me since I am going to finish it around it's US release date!

I mentioned Paranormalcy because it has that same lighthearted feel to them. I didn't like Paranormalcy all that much, but it is one that is more liked by people. Quick reads, so you won't lose much by reading them.

Hope this isn't offense but...um...Why is the cover so slutty-looking?

(covers like that tend to annoy me)

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I just don't get why paranormal and urban fantasy covers have a tendency to be smutty. (And I kinda don't like carrying around books with half-naked women on them).

Luckily the October Daye series has non-smutty covers because i really do like that series.

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 325 comments LOL at all this smutty cover talk! I think I may even have Dead Witch Walking on my Kindle. (maybe it was temporarily free?) I hope it is more PNR than urban fantasy. I have tried books labeled as UF and just can't get into them as much too much action kick butt stuff and not enough romance... does that make sense? Although I guess even Sookie is UF... It qualified in challenges before.

Just finished Beastly by Alex Flinn last night... It was cute! An easy read. Now I'm ready to go see Alex Pettyfer this weekend... ;)

Starting Going Bovine by Libba Bray now.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Catie wrote: "In that case, I would not recommend them to you AV! They are definitely light on the romance - there's not too much and the story lines are more about action/adventure than romance."

The fact that they are light on the romance would probably be good for me. I have one more question before it potentially goes to the TBR list. You said there is sex...is it...graphic? Cause I'm a bit of a prude. It can be in novels and happen (there are some novels where its done well) but sometimes it just makes me blush. (Let's just say Girl With a Dragon Tattoo caught me off guard--but I did keep listening to the series). I just want to prepare myself if need be.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I haven't done Fever yet but I plan to give it a go based on the reception.

Like I said I got through the Millennium series (okay I'm still listening to the last one) but when stuff first went down I was like WHOA because well...apparently Swedish people really like their sex. Let's blame the cold weather.

I'll see if any others pipe in. Like I said sex doesn't eliminate a book for me. But I once read a book where people had chameleon sex and it was weird

message 6694: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Cassi I am as prudish as they come and I survived both the Fever Series as well as the Black Dagger books. The Fever series is actually tame compared to BDB books. Catie I added that series to my wish list on Overdrive, but I have not gotten to it yet. It sounds like the Kate Daniels series from your description - if it is it should be fine for Cassi.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Okay adding to my TBR list. But if I'm traumatized.. *gives everyone suspicious look*

I think I mentioned it when I bought it. Maybe November? December? It is very much a downer, so it's hard to get into. It's good but I'm having a hard time. And the horrible thing is, I fear I will really, really like it or love it then get mad because I waited so long. Sometimes I get a John Green feel while I am reading it, and I am not a fan of his.
