Young Adult Fiction for Adults discussion
What are you reading now?
I'm reading
. I'm liking it quite a bit more than I liked the author's other book,
, but it's kind of more juvenile than I thought it would be.

James Frey is a writer warehouse warden. He pays MFA students off the East Coast (Columbia mostly) $250 to anyone whose story he likes--then "collaborates" (i.e., tells them what to change) and pitches it on the West Coast to make it into a film. If he sells the draft, THEN a publishing house will grab it, whether it's good or not, because a movie is in the works -- BUT the writer just gets $250 plus commission(after all expenses taken off and that doesn't leave much) AND doesn't get recognition for the book. The author of I Am Number Four couldn't claim it to be his and has had problems getting anything else published.Except --- he slipped and said he wrote it to someone at a workshop -- settlement of a suit wasn't revealed. Wow, it's been awhile since I checked this, I am not reading the previous pages.I learned a valuable lesson, don't request to review 10+ more books at a time. I signed up for netgalley, and requested quite a few books to review, and well I have 10 or more waiting to be read, lol. I'll be busy for the month of February if not longer.

I hear you. I think I have about 8 or so. I have Delirium in progress. What are you reading from NetGalley?
Oh I don't even want to talk about my Netgalley list..LOL I am bad and can't help myself when it comes to that place. :)
Just got done with
.......eh it was not that great. Not enough depth to the story and characters. Things just kind of....happened and all within a timespan of a week. I'm going to start reading
while I'm waiting for
to be delivered. :)
YOU HAVE AN ARC OF DEMONGLASS!!!?!/!?!*dies inside*
(This should reveal my deep feelings towards Hex Hall)
I just want to say that I still have not gotten my copy of Shadowfever... Which I ordered last tuesday... It's been 9 days, people!
Wendy wrote: "I just want to say that I still have not gotten my copy of Shadowfever... Which I ordered last tuesday... It's been 9 days, people!"Hahaha! Poor Wendy! That is how I felt when Mockingjay came out and I had to wait a week to get it. I feel your pain!
Wow, Wendy I can't believe you still haven't got your copy. I have never known Amazon to take so long getting something to someone before. I hope you get it soon.Emily, I haven't read Hex Hall but I really realy want too I just haven't gotten around to it yet.
I agree that HH has a lot of fun snark. I enjoy books that don't always take themselves too seriously.
I have never had Amazon take this long to get me a package. I'm trying to retain my optimism, but it's getting harder to not be irritated.
My post-Christmas Amazon orders have been the longest waits I've ever had too. And I live quite close to some of their warehouses/shipping places. I wonder whats up with that.Hex Hall is PERFECT at not taking itself seriously. I think that's why I loved it so ridiculously much. The author is fun to follow on twitter, she clearly doesn't take herself too seriously!
Wendy wrote: "I have never had Amazon take this long to get me a package. The thing is, he is still reading his monster 1000 page book now, so he did not even need them to come in yet. I think when you are sitting and waiting is when it takes the longest!

Sorry Wendy... a watched pot never boils. Hopefully you'll get it sometime very soon. I can't wait to hear what you think. Speaking of, Heidi I haven't heard your thoughts on the book. Don't post them here obviously, but what did you think?
I finished
and OMG... I feel like my brain has glazed over and I have been turned to mush and pulled every which way but I love it. That is what a great book does to you. My first 5 star book this year. Already started
then
is next. After that I will continue my ARC of
from netgalley.

Oh my gosh that is just depressing! I finished Halfway to the Grave but I don't want to start the next one because I'm holding out hope that Shadowfever will come tomorrow! At the same time, I have a feeling it wont and I'll waste time not reading something. Grrr Argh.
I finished Halfway to the Grave already. I'm debating on whether or not to start
.I loved Halfway to the Grave. I told a friend that it's like Stephanie Plum meets Vampire Urban Fantasy.
With my Zumba kit (yes for reals) that I ordered from Amazon the status did not properly update until the day it was sorted in my town and out for delivery. So its hard to know what to do. Its been so long I might wait if I were you, however sometimes its hard not to have a book in process.
That's the hard part. I want to wait so I can start Shadowfever immediately, but I also hate not having a book I'm reading.
Did you have an e-reader? Something I've enjoyed lately. I downloaded the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes e-book. It's best read it short episodic spurts. So I can read a section between books. It's been a surprisingly pleasant way to read.
That's a great idea! I have a few classics I could do that with that I got for free on my Kindle. Like Alice in Wonderland or Wizard of Oz.

Yay for
! Are you listening to it on audio Catie? p.s. My thoughts are with you in your time of trial Wendy! I suggest you read a short book (like a cozy mystery) or re-read something you own until it arrives.

Ugh! Oh the torture! This is blocking the sunlight to my soul!
Just finished Deadly Little Secrets---really liked it
Well I am not really a Angel story person, I just don't think its right to put them in stories but thats just me..so I was trying to read
It doesn't sound like a Angel story on the back cover but it is, so it got tossed to the side. Now I am reading
to review and
for another group on GR who is doing it as a group read. So hopefully I like these books, I want a good book! :)

Peep, I just thought we was all boring you so you didn't comment..LOL Where have you been hiding? Did you find a good book? :)
I started Linger by Maggie Stiefvater yesterday. So far it's a little slow, but I'm loving the interaction between Isabel and Cole!
Victoria wrote: "I started Linger by Maggie Stiefvater yesterday. So far it's a little slow, but I'm loving the interaction between Isabel and Cole!"I liked Cole. The other two bored me to death with their "love".
Heidi I wrote: "Finished
- loved every single second of it!"Good to know - I'm going to read it soon.
Speaking of sneak-reading at work, I'm still making headway with
.And, due to the instant gratification of downloading, I bought
and
yesterday. (Already building a massive TBR list, even though I'm still only reading on my iPod) :P

I am listening to this on audio. I like it so far. On the audio the author (from the band MTX) has a few songs that go with the book - I haven't gotten to them yet.
