message 5751: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I want to read Hold Me Closer, Necromancer too. It's on my list.

I love well written books, but I don't like when a book sounds too poetic. I'm not sure what is meant by 'prose' and when I look it up it means the typical style of writing that is unlike poems. To write something as one would say it, and that is what I like.

"Prose" refers to writing that isn't poetry. That's the simple definition. Of course, it is actually more complicated than that, but you would need to be an English geek to care (I'm an English geek).

I don't usually enjoy prose that attempts to mimic natural speech. You would probably think that the authors whom I prefer are "too poetic." But that's okay; the world would be a boring place if we all had identical tastes.

message 5753: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) My mom prefers authors like that also, it's all about style and prefrence, :)

message 5754: by Stormi (StormReads) (new)

Stormi (StormReads) (bmreviewsohmy) I just want my story to entertain me and if it does that I am okay with it..LOL I liked HP I didn't like Twilight..I won't read The Golden Compass...but will try most anything as long as the story hold my attention. =) For me it really doesn't have anything to do with writing style I guess..I found HP interesting and Twilight to be boring. =)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments Susan wrote: "I'm reading Watermelon by Marian Keyes."

I love Marian Keyes! This is the first of the Walsh sisters books - they are not a series but if you don't read them in order you find out how the other ones end.

message 5756: by Sara (new)

Sara (rose081900) | 177 comments I decided to read Wondrous Strange (Wondrous Strange, #1) by Lesley Livingston . I plan on going back to the Fever series, but don't want to read them back to back because I tend to get bored with a series when I do that.

message 5757: by Stormi (StormReads) (new)

Stormi (StormReads) (bmreviewsohmy) I liked Wonderous Strange. :)

message 5758: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments Gosh is it Hannah? Anywho I do think she will write it but I don't think she is going to rush it because it will be the final Walsh sister book and it has got to be epic considering how outlandish she is. I loved it when she was a PI. I guess her book will be when she grows up finally but that is hard to imagine.

I will say that the main character is a bit annoying, but overall the book is good. I really enjoyed it. I plan on continuing this series that's for sure. Let me know what you think when you're done.

message 5760: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Everyone's right, Sara. In book 3 things really get awesome and intense.

do you know the order of the books Jaimie??

message 5762: by Susan (new)

Susan Thank you so much Catie, I hate to read books out of order!!

message 5763: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I'll give Marian Keyes a try! For those who like good chick lit I am a big fan of Katherine Center. I also just finished a book Jaimie recommended Just One Of The Guys by Kristan Higgins and really enjoyed it.

message 5764: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I am reading Across the Nightingale Floor (Tales of the Otori, # 1) by Lian Hearn - still listening to Bloody Jack book 5 on audio.

You will like her - she is funny and yet her books usually have a deeper subplot than most chick lit. The Walsh sisters stories get better as they go along IMO.

message 5770: by Susan (new)

Susan I'm going to give Katherine Center a try! I love chick lit almost as much as YA....... Thanks Heidi!!

Yay! I won Get Lucky by Katherine Center last year on here and really liked it. I also really liked Everyone Is Beautiful by Katherine Center .

Also working my way through Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly

message 5776: by Traci (new)

Traci Finished Shadowfever (Fever, #5) by Karen Marie Moning last night and I'm so sad that it was the last. I'm going to miss reading about Mac and Barrons, that's for sure.

I'm now starting Elixir (Elixir, #1) by Hilary Duff . When I heard Hilary Duff wrote a book I decided that I pretty much had to read it.. purely for entertainment's sake.

message 5777: by Stormi (StormReads) (new)

Stormi (StormReads) (bmreviewsohmy) Traci,

I am curious to see if you like Elixer or not..I am a little curious about that book but not sure if I am curious enough to read it..LOL

message 5778: by Jill (new)

Jill | 68 comments Just started Bloodfever Bloodfever (Fever, #2) by Karen Marie Moning and so far it is living up to my expectations. I never usually read a series back to back but this one just leaves every thing hanging. Plus they are quick reads. Love it.

I read Elixir last year. It was decent. I don't remember connecting with the characters though. I might have to reread this one later this year to see if I like it better. It's a quick and easy read though, at least to me it was.

message 5782: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I wish I was at home right now reading instead of here at work.

I'm halfway through Dreamfever.

message 5783: by Kayla (new)

Kayla (kaylawrites89) | 352 comments i am currently reading 2 novels, 1 of which i am reading aloud to my fiance and the other i'm reading just to myself. Tiger's Curse by, Colleen Houck i am reading aloud, so far it is an incredible story and very intriguing. beautiful creatures by, kami garcia and margaret stohl is the second book. it has also been very intriguing so far and i find i can't put it down.

message 5785: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Ugh!! I'm almost done with Dreamfever and Shadowfever hasn't even shipped out yet! Whine whine whine!

I was hoping it would get here by the time I was done.

message 5786: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (manchesterunited) | 14 comments I really enjoyed I Am Number Four. This book was a read in one night thrill ride! Read this one before you see the movie.

message 5787: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I'm really disturbed about this! I've been trying to drag it out and I keep going to Amazon to see if the order status has changed to preparing to ship and it just isnt!

Maybe tomorrow.

I'm going to have to read that now. I swear I am never going to get through all the books on my to be read list if I continue to add more to it. But I can't help but reading suggestions and then if they are interesting adding them to be read.

Stacia, it was a decent YA paranormal book. It wasn't like most of the other paranormal YA books I've read. Most of the book you can't take seriously, some of it was weird, some of it was funny, none of it was really serious.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Cool. Thanks for letting me know.

I sure hope I agree with you. I am about 1/2 way through. I want to finish it and Zombies vs. Unicorns before the month is through. I want to start fresh and devour The Hunger Games trilogy in February. :) I am late... I know...

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Even though you gave it 3 stars Amanda your review made me curious enough to watch and see what others think. (Maybe I have a warm spot for necromancer series because the Abhorsen series by Garth Nix is one of my all time favorites)

Well I didn't like Infinite Days I never even finished it, so I hope you are liking it better than I did.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I read His Dark Materials during high school. Really enjoyed it though I felt it got more and more complicated as it went on. Not sure why they started making movies out of that series--clearly when you got to the dusty stuff it was too complicated for a children's movie (heck it was complicated to read).

message 5798: by Kayla (new)

Kayla (kaylawrites89) | 352 comments well, despite it's complicated reading, i thought it was very good. amber spyglass was my favorite book of the series. :) but i thought the abhorsen series was difficult to read at times as well. but both sets are very good. i read them both when i was in middle school

It has gotten more interesting. I have to read more. I don't often leave books unfinished. I will try to finish it tonight or tomorrow. I have Idol tonight... cuts into my reading time a bit LOL.

I hope so, too. It starts slow at the beginning and then it slowly starts to pick up and gets better. I even put it down and started reading other things in between, then I gave it another try, kept on reading and turned out loving it. The ending especially, was so good.
