Gwennie (blessedwannab) I love my Kindle. I've read two books on it. But I have to say, reading the Chaos Walking Tril (which are physical books) has been really nice. It made me realize that even with ebooks nothing compares to holding the real thing.

I just love flipping through pages and fanning the book. I'll hold my book while I talk to my husband and just flutter the pages in my hands. Relaxing.

message 5202: by Kourtni (new)

Kourtni (kourkyloo) | 602 comments I agree Wendy. Nothing compares to real live books. I don't enjoy it as much when reading from my ipod. And I only do that when I feel its absolutely necessary.

message 5203: by Lloyd (new)

Lloyd | 415 comments Oh, sure, expose me for a freak when I'm just trying to open up. :P

Actually, I have been such a collector (used to collect comics for almost 30 years) that I have just become overwhelmed by the sheer volume of paper that I have not only on shelves, but boxed up in the garage, etc.

And now my OCD side won't have to worry about bending the spines, etc. I can't help looking at The Lost Hero (The Heroes of Olympus, #1) by Rick Riordan and thinking how nice that set would look on a shelf. (Damn collector side of me!)

Besides, I still haven't bought one yet, so I'm not totally committed. (Though maybe I should consider it, eh?) :D

message 5204: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Stormi you must read the Chaos Walking series! Loved it.

Lloyd | 415 comments Heidi I wrote: "Stormi you must read the Chaos Walking series! Loved it."

I agree. It's good and worth the read. :)

message 5206: by Heidi (last edited Jan 06, 2011 02:54PM) (new)

Heidi I am reading My Fair Godmother (My Fair Godmother, #1) by Janette Rallison and listening to The Rules of Survival by Nancy Werlin .

message 5207: by Stormi (StormReads) (new)

Stormi (StormReads) (bmreviewsohmy) Okay so I am reading the ARC of Across the Universe by Beth Revis and I don't know if its just the sci-fi feel of it or what but I just can't get into it. :( I am 36 pages in and just nothing real exciting has happened. Since its sort of a big book I am going to give it 100pages but after that if I can't do it, its going on the DNF shelf. :( I hate not finishing a book though.

Aw we would never think you're a freak. A guy a know his whole basement was his own library, he owned every single book that James Patterson wrote, and buys each one that comes out, I was in pure Heaven in his basement.

I like the Lost Hero cover, I haven't read it yet though, but it's on my to read list.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I miss having a clock in the upper right hand corner when I read a book.

message 5210: by [deleted user] (new)

The only DTB I have read since I got my Kindle a year and a half ago is Catching Fire. I love my Kindle and never want to go back to "real" books.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I've only read one and a half books on my Kindle and I can already say honestly I prefer it. I can change the font size to my preferences and no need to worry about page turning or losing my page while turning (has happened to me).

message 5212: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Hey, Im in no way saying don't get a Kindle. I agree with you completely. I have way too many books, so a Kindle is nice in that way. I'm very glad I have it. It's just not quite as nice.

message 5213: by [deleted user] (new)

Wendy wrote: "Hey, Im in no way saying don't get a Kindle. I agree with you completely. I have way too many books, so a Kindle is nice in that way. I'm very glad I have it. It's just not quite as nice."

Oh, I didn't take it that way, Wendy. I was just sharing the Kindle love. :)

message 5214: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) LOL, I know you didn't. I was responding to Lloyd.

I feel the Kindle love, too. :)

message 5215: by Lloyd (new)

Lloyd | 415 comments See...that's how easily I can talk myself into getting one again. :P

(I just wish they were in stock NOW!!!)

message 5216: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Did they say when they were getting new stock?

message 5217: by Lloyd (new)

Lloyd | 415 comments Wendy wrote: "Did they say when they were getting new stock?"

No. Just that they are on order and they aren't sure when they will be getting more.

message 5218: by Stormi (StormReads) (new)

Stormi (StormReads) (bmreviewsohmy) Oh that totally sucks! It would drive me crazy knowing I had the money but couldn't get the ereader. Feeling your anxiety Lloyd. :( :)

message 5219: by Antoinette (new)

Antoinette | 2 comments The Time Traveler's Wife Its been really good so far.

message 5220: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Lloyd I am sure you want a Kindle, but they sell the ereader I bought at most Best Buy's for $119 - it is a Cruz Reader. It has a Kindle App on it, so I can get any Amazon ebook I want. I can also get ebooks from the library Overdrive, Borders, and B&N because I have apps for them. Just in case you are really anxious to get an ereader. No problem if you want to wait :)

message 5221: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Just a warning though that they aren't the same thing. The Cruz reader is backlit (I think), whereas the Kindle uses e-ink. It looks like you're looking at a book. I guess it would depend on what you want to do.

As for the ereader vs. paper book debate - can't we all just get along? I am an equal opportunity reader.

message 5222: by Stormi (StormReads) (new)

Stormi (StormReads) (bmreviewsohmy) I am a equal opportunity book reader....LOL I like getting ARC's of of Netgalley and they are in ebook form..and I also love shopping in the bookstore with the smell of paperback books....book heaven..lol

message 5223: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (peanutty222) | 529 comments I'm definately a paper kinda gal. I love holding a book.

message 5224: by Traci (new)

Traci I'm a paper book gal as well. I've only read 2 books on my Nook and it's just not the same.

anyway.. just finished Nightshade (Nightshade, #1) by Andrea Cremer which I loved!

Going to start Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols next

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments I want an actual hardcopy of a book. I love flipping pages and re-reading favorite parts or looking up things I've forgotten. I guess that would be why I haven't yet gotten an ereader.

That being said, when I travel I think an ereader/kindle/whatever else is out there would be fabulous. Especially if you can access library books from them.

message 5226: by Sara (new)

Sara (rose081900) | 177 comments I don't own an e-reader yet, I have my e-readers on my computer, which works perfectly since I'm at my computer quite a bit. I really want a Nook, so when I'm out of town, I can have my book(s) with me, I hate going days without reading, it just puts a damper in my mood.

message 5227: by Catherine (new)

Catherine (cattymccat) | 95 comments I'm right at halfway through Nightshade, but I can't make myself wait anymore. I'm starting Awakened as soon as I'm done with the chapter I'm on!

Nightshade (Nightshade, #1) by Andrea Cremer Awakened (House of Night, #8) by P.C. Cast

I was reading up a bit on this. I might check it out. I just wish the stores had working demos, so you can play with them a bit. I do like the freedom of the multiple apps you mention (and library too).

message 5231: by [deleted user] (new)

As a Kindle lover, I will admit that I miss being able to just thumb through a book when I'm looking for a particular page. But that's about all I miss. Hehe!

message 5232: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments my biggest problem with my kindle is that I can't just flip through the pages. When I am reading - a lot of times with mysteries - and I get an idea as to what is going to happen I like to thumb back to the spot in the book that triggered my idea. Real books will always be better in my opinion but I do love the ease and covienence of my ebooks.

message 5233: by Kourtni (new)

Kourtni (kourkyloo) | 602 comments The Cruz Reader sounds pretty neat if I were an ereader fan! I actually think the concept is wonderful and if I didn't have my freakish obsession with owning most the books I read I would seriously think about buying one. I also hate hate hate the fact that you have no idea what page you're on and it is impossible to flip and find a page quickly. But like Carmel said, if somebody gave me one as a present I wouldn't turn it down and I would probably end up getting used to it and really liking it.

There is a way to highlight favorite passages so you can easily go back to them later. (A feature I've enjoyed on my Kindle App on the iPod Touch) And also keyword search functions I've discovered work just as well (if not even easier) than flipping back pages.

I see both sides of the books vs ereader debate. I enjoy them both.

I just love books, great writing and imagination. :)

message 5235: by Jaimie (new)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments it usually is not something that I thought would be important but I want to go back and take a second look at. Don't get me wrong - my Kindle is awsome, but if I had the space and $ I would have my library in real book form.

message 5236: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Wow Lloyd you really started a discussion here didn't you! Peep is right - the Cruz doesn't have eink, but most of the reviewers said they were fine reading it (you can also read it in the dark). From my multiple days of research on it I will tell you the major things I noticed from the reviewers:
1. Don't think you are getting and Ipad for $119 - you are an idiot, so stop comparing them because they are not the same.
2. Unless you can figure out apps and things like that DO NOT buy one because you will be lost. I am new to the whole app world, but there is a ton of info on them online if you just take the time to look around. I am big into finding new cool things, so that is fine with me.

As I have said, I mainly got mine to work as a multitasker - so I could have something with wifi (that is COLOR) and can play my audiobooks on and lastly so I would take it with me on vacation to read ebooks (I plan to read mostly print books in general). If all you want to do with yours is read books - stick with a Kindle or Nook.

Lastly, I bought mine at a local Borders so that if I did not like it I could always return it without having to worry about shipping it back and waiting for a replacement -- just a thought???

Lloyd | 415 comments Jaimie wrote: "Don't get me wrong - my Kindle is awsome, but if I had the space and $ I would have my library in real book form."

If money and space weren't an issue, I'd probably have a little bit of both. Sadly, I'm still living in a 2br apartment with my wife and son. Personal space of my own is...extremely limited. Try adding in an enormous comic book / graphic novel collection and the books of both my wife and I...I need a 4br house and a job that will support it.

Sigh. (Now I'm just depressed.) :P

message 5238: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Sorry Lloyd! Hey, does your Best Buy have Nook's? You can read library books on Nook's too and they have the same great reviews as the Kindle -- you just have to get your books from B&N instead of Amazon. Does that help????

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Lloyd if it makes you feel better I have a full time job and live in the mother-in-laws suite on my parents garage.

Perk: It's free
Con: It's big, but not house/apartment big.

message 5240: by Sara (new)

Sara (rose081900) | 177 comments It's always nice to come on and see a lovely discussion. For all of you who buy your books (paperback/hardcover) do you ever go back to read them, or do you just like having them once you buy them?

My biggest problem was that when I was buying books, I never planned to reread them, unless probably years down the road, so do you have reasons why you keep them instead of just borrowing them from a library or whatnot?

message 5241: by Stormi (StormReads) (new)

Stormi (StormReads) (bmreviewsohmy) I have my books because I am a book horder (there I said, got it off my chest..LOL) I just like looking around my rooms and seeing books. :) I am getting a little bit better at giving some away but if they are favorites they stay. :)

Still I am looking for a ereader too, sighs, just can't afford one right now.

message 5242: by Lloyd (new)

Lloyd | 415 comments That's what I've found. I always plan on re-reading a great many books. But then when I think back to when I last read many of them...with 20th anniversary editions coming out, etc.

Sigh. Time passes quickly the older you get.

message 5243: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments I'm a big re-reader. If I buy a book you can bet I'll re-read it every year or two. The only books I own that I won't re-read are ones that have been gifted to me that weren't real great. I am trying to find them good homes.

I use the library I ton and when I borrow a book I love, I'll go find it and buy it.

message 5244: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I use the library for most books and only buy books I plan to re-read or share. I share more than I re-read though.

message 5245: by Sara (new)

Sara (rose081900) | 177 comments I finished reading Matched (Matched #1) by Ally Condie , I must say it's very interesting and makes you think. Now, I'm going to read Awakened (House of Night, #8) by P.C. Cast , the last and final installment of the House of Night series. I'm almost glad to see this series come to an end. So, this will be my fourth book for January.

I mainly get my books from the library when I want the feel of a book in my hand, if not I just get e-books from a friend or from the library e-book collection online. I've noticed over the years, books take up a lot of space, I think the only book I have ever kept was the book that my grandpa gave me before he died with Grapes of Wrath, and a few other stories in it by John Steinbeck (I think that's the person).

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I get my books from the library BUT they often don't have the books I want (I don't think they have any of the October Daye novels...which I quite enjoy, only had one of the Iron Fey books, etc etc). They're too slow on sequels for me sometimes.

That's where buying books comes in. I've discovered that there are WAY too many books for me to re-read as much as I would sometimes like to do. (Or maybe I just don't have enough time...). But since I don't have the storage space thats where my kindle comes in handy.

Has anyone used the kindle lending capabilities yet? I'm very curious about this.

So to stay slightly on topic I'm almost done with An Artificial Night (October Daye, #3) by Seanan McGuire , listening to In the Belly of the Bloodhound Being an Account of a Particularly Peculiar Adventure in the Life of Jacky Faber (Bloody Jack, #4) by L.A. Meyer which I bought for myself because for some reason my library skips it (and I believe they have the next one...)

i dont think that Awakened is the last of the series, I think theres at least 10
