Kevin Xu (kxu65) Hey I wrote it mostly if you look back I was never a big fan of Fitz, but more of her first two Soldier and Son books.

Laurel My friends often tell me that "I wouldn't say sh*t if my mouth was full of it", but I do want to make this comment.

I have a friend who will often take the opposite side of an argument because he enjoys the debate, so if this is why you often change your opinions, okay. But Kevin, you can't purposefully rile things up then stand back and say "it's just my opinion". You either stand by what you say, or you don't. You either take part in the debates you start, or don't start them.

message 553: by Kevin (last edited Jun 25, 2011 03:10PM) (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) I stand on one thing, I was never really a big of Fitz overall.

message 554: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) Its not because I enjoy to debate, it more like I hated it when a lot of people gets crazy about a certain thing only focusing on that one certain thing, while ignoring other similar things.

message 555: by Laurel (last edited Jun 25, 2011 03:17PM) (new)

Laurel Well, I'm the kind of person who likes to dive in head first and completely savor an experience. If I love something, I express it to my friends. If they express similar opinions, it can be a really wonderful thing to share. It brings people together. If you think we're going overboard, well, it's about us. Let us enjoy the moment. Everyone is different, and I don't think I'm going to change any sooner than you will.

Can we both be okay with that?

message 556: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) Yes

message 557: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) I enjoy that too, but I also see both sides of a viewpoint.

Here ya go Kevin. You seem to have a short, wishy-washy memory so here's a refresher for you of your own comments in FA :)

I went to a Borders closing sale and got Royal Assassin, Assassin's Quest, Golden Fool, and The Book of Merlin all for 70% off last weekend.

(Prior to this post you had mentioned having 3 or 4 copies of the Farseer Trilogy that you kept giving to friends....funny that you found them worth giving and then buying again repeatedly :))

In the thread: What Are You Currently Reading?
On Apr 15, 2011 12:22pm

I am re-reading both Royal Assassin and Assassin's Quest, then reading Golden Fool.

(Worth Re-reading eh )

You really should go back and start with Assassin's Apprentice.

(I totally agree with your recommendation here by the way, Kev)

You are right about that. One book easy, fun, likable to read, while the other hard, not fun to read."

(So just to remind you here, Cheryl had bought Assassin's Apprentice and Gardens of the moon...at that point in time you find Assassin's Apprentice fun and likable to read....*scratches chin*...hmmmmmm)

Leighann, that is the exact opposite for me. Book two, every time I read it, I fly pass it, but book three takes me at least twice as long for me to read. The reason maybe that I love character development rather than action, especially Fitz, where in book three half the time he was doing nothing to me unless he had guidance.

(You love the character development....especially...Fitz, you say?)

I promise after you read Assassin's Apprentice you will want to read all her other books other than the Soldier Son Trilogy.

(What, what, what? You're recommending Assassin's Apprenctice to Sharon and NOT the Soldier Son trilogy? How very odd....I thought you just said that.....oh nevermind)

SO! Apparently you helped us make a big deal of Robin Hobb...which kinda goes against what you were just saying. Kinda like I said, huh.

If you need help removing your foot from your mouth or mine from your ass, I have a shoehorn I'm more than willing to lend you :)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) I just think that reading what an author is famous for first is better than reading something that most people hate, even if I liked better.

message 560: by Kevin (last edited Jun 25, 2011 03:37PM) (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) Grant, you see that I try to make the same point with Fitz every time on how I hate that he always cannot be on his own two feet, which is exactly the opposite of most assassins.

message 561: by [deleted user] (new)

Sssssssssure. That Obviously makes sense in the face of all your past comments :)

message 562: by Kevin (last edited Jun 25, 2011 03:38PM) (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) First of by having so many copies of the first book does not mean I go out and buy them. I just find them. When I give them away, I usually give them off with a warning that Fitz is not like the usually assassin.

message 563: by [deleted user] (new)

Whatever you say, boss :)

message 564: by [deleted user] (new)

And then....?

*offers popcorn*

message 565: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) I have posted my feeling about Fitz not being like a normal assassin before. Plus this all comes out the more I think about him as a character.

Kelly wrote: "I have to agree with Kevin. As a job, none can really get more evil than an assassin don't you think? I mean, when your whole job is to kill people quickly and quietly, it's not exactly puppy dogs ..."

Could not agree with you more, Fitz is too nice of a character, makes too many mistakes, mostly does not work along to be considered to be an assassin.

message 567: by [deleted user] (new)

Hmm...so this arguing with yourself and having vastly differing opinions....with yourself...I mean don't you think that could be a problem? Have you seen a shrink lately? Perhaps it's neurological? I'm really concerned, Kevin. We should pass the hat around and make sure you get the help you need.

Traci Kevin wrote: "First of by having so many copies of the first book does not mean I go out and buy them. I just find them. When I give them away, I usually give them off with a warning that Fitz is not like the us..."

Lol. I'm sorry I try very hard not to be rude in my comments but this is too funny. You find them?! Like on the street? Like someone has snuck into your house in the middle of the night and leaves copies for you? :)

message 569: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) I don't have a problem, doesn't people have the right to change their mind about a certain topic.

message 570: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) I kind of got bored with people talking about Fitz every change they get for almost 3 month or so, it takes all the fun in these books away for me.

I'm just gonna pop in and say that my usually non-/picky-reader boyfriend, who likes Rothfuss but not much else, just started Assassin's Apprentice and loves it so far. And that makes me really, really happy.

message 572: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments You do, Kevin. But everytime someone's had enough of the argument, you just keep it going. So stop! :)

You don't like Fritz so much. We get it.

message 573: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) I know, every time that I have an argument it seems just to go on with Grant, it hit a nerve with him, while everyone else would either come in here or there watching as fight it out. I knew this would happened when I posted, but not with Grant, but I guess I should have seen it coming.

message 574: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) I know that also not to call out names or anything, but the fight could have gotten on even bigger than what had happened if it included Dawn or Chris.

message 575: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Xu (kxu65) I guess every time I am in disagree, it over something that they love. Plus it gets more attracts more attention.

message 576: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments All right, Kevin. That's enough! :)

No that is not the reason, I just seem to find certain books lying around or was given to by people around like I have 11 copies complete sets of the first nine books in the wheel of times, but only have of them I found and that was all within the course of a year or so. Then don't get me started on how many copies of Ender's Game that I have with three copies sign by Card, which I actually bought. I even got a copy today.

Kevin Xu (kxu65) I will stop my post and rant on Fitz.

The same with you. I guess this is something that is just expected once I start something. Basically both of us got used to it now.

Robin McKinley has always been a bit "off and on" for me, though like you, really enjoyed her first books. The last book she wrote that I own for my 're-read' shelves is "Sunshine". Some of hers I haven't even been able to finish ... the ones I like, I've re-read so often they are nearly falling apart.

Stop bringing up my fucking name! Holy shit eater. Seriously... I'm not even here, I'm used to you starting shit just to start it, I'm used to you making absolutely zero sense, I really could care less. But do you know what I don't like? I really don't like having friends telling me that you are yet again bringing my name into things I'm not involved in. Chris&Dawn aren't here, stop stalking us.

message 595: by [deleted user] (new)

No. Well, yes. But only remnants of them.

Someone ate their heads off...

message 596: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) That's fine, I guess.. Weird, but fine.

I only like stale gummy bears though... So if they aren't stale, that's a deal breaker.

message 597: by [deleted user] (new)

Damn. These're fresh outta the gummi-tree.

message 598: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) Yuck. Gummy bears are sooo much better stale. I like them chewy.. I buy them and let the open package sit on the counter overnight, and perfection. Mmmm, I want gummy bears!

message 599: by [deleted user] (new)

That's just gross. No wonder Kevin hates you.

Is it worse that I prefer stale soda that's also been left open overnight? Dawn and I can open a movie theater stand of old food. :)
