Here's my favorite reads of 2010. In no special order. I think that this was the first year in a long time where horror dominated the list. Awesome year!

Every time I see this thread I want to stop to comment. I’ve never commented because I hardly read anything last year that was memorable! How horrible is that? Almost everything new I read last year was crap or something I’d already read. Wow.

The only exception to that is Robert Heinlein’s Starship Troopers. I have to say that this book was a true gem. I saw the movie “Starship Troopers” long before I read the book (I’m not really a sci-fi kind of girl), so you can understand that I was hesitant to read it. :) I only read Starship Troopers because I got it from the free book pile in my apartment, but I am so glad I did. I’m happy to report that the only thing the book and the movie have in common is the title and a few character names.

That being said, the following is a list of my favorite re-reads of 2010.

Lol...I had no idea Starship Troopers was a novel...all I remember about the movie is drooling over Denise Richards and digging that Blur - Song 2 was on the soundtrack :)

I've wanted to comment in this thread as well but so many of my novels last year were re-reads and many of the newer ones (excepting a select few that were amazing) didn't really impress me.

According to Wikipedia (which can often be wrong) Starship Troopers inspired games like Starcraft and cartoons like Mobile Suit Gundam. :)

Denise Richards, huh? lol! Have you seen Wild Things? I thought it was a pretty good movie.

Lol any man worth his salt that has a thing for Denise Richards has seen Wild Things! In slow motion no less ;). Denise Richards and Vanessa Williams were definitely my crushes back in the day

I think I'm going to read this - it sounds pretty good. I want to read Ender's Game first. "Ender's Game" is supposed to be a reply to "Starship Troopers" and a review for The Forever War mentions that it has a similar philosophy to "Ender's Game" as well.

My reading highlight of last year was discovering China Mieville - I read The City & The City and then Kraken, in quick succession, and absolutely loved them both.

Hmm....I've never read any China Mieville. I'll have to look her up :) Great choices incidentally by well pretty much everyone :) Ender's Game is Excellent MrsJoseph. I read the Alvin Maker series before I read Ender's Game and was really surprised by how different the writing was...loved it nonetheless :)

You know, I could never really get into Alvin the Maker. I think I stopped after book 1 or 2 (can't remember).

Quite a few folks had a hard time with the Alvin Maker series. I'm disappointed that there was never a real conclusion to the series. You didn't miss out.

Christine - they're very different in style... but both very good IMO. Kraken felt quite Gaimanesque to me (and I think I've read everything he's written!)
