Yeah but even though this is going to come out wrong, her parents (and no one else) ever took much notice of her until him (albeit in a negative way) (view spoiler)[and I feel bad at the end that nothing had changed for her in that regard. I always wonder if he'd approached her in a "normal" way, whether she would have loved him anyway without all the Stockholm Syndrome stuff. (hide spoiler)]

I agree with you, Josie. I wondered about that too.Received my copy of
early (from Amazon -I'm shocked!) and read it. I gave it 3 stars. It's all the world-building and the cliffhanger. I'm getting pretty sick of those. Even resenting their use now.
Just finished
. I'm thinking of going off my PNR bender for a bit. Good though this book was, everything's blending into one big jumble of fae, doors, traps, the heroine getting her ass kicked and getting covered in blood. Then she showers and someone cooks for her and she has sex. It's like I keep reading the same book again and again. Time to hit up on some Richard Dawkins.

LOL Moss. You definitely need a break!Feeling all virtuous cause I finished my poor library book and gave it 4 stars.
Now just need to pick which book to read for Bingo.
Regina, I understand what you mean. I did feel for him in certain areas of the story, but I could not get past the fact that he abducted her.
Ooh Ames, I didn't know The Gathering was about to come out! Although I suppose I might put off reading it for a while; I'm not too good with cliffhangers, lol.
Read
and it was good. The book's a little schizo with the different viewpoints and goes back and forth between gun-toting action and mushy romance, which took a little getting used to but a very engaging story. It's the first in a trilogy, and I'm definitely looking forward to the rest of the series :)
Just Started:
for Bookshelf bingo. I've read two other series by Saintcrow (Strange Angels & Jill Kismet) & enjoyed both for the most part. But I'm having a very hard time getting into WFtD. It's very convoluted & I hate all of these made-up words I'm supposed to know the meaning of. I wish a dictionary was included.
After two months I finally finished
-1 star. Not my kind of humour. Too silly and campy for me. Even the zombie cows couldn't save it.
LOL Ames! "Even the zombie cows couldn't save it"I just finished
. It was a fun read. Full of great quotes!I'm about to start either
or
, though I'm leaning towards the first.
I'm in the middle of
as my Bingo read....Lethal, you were right! Hugh & Lilith are just great. The beginning really didn't grab me, but now, wow...
Inga wrote: "Soon to start Pride Mates - looking forward to new author, series and hopefully somehow different shifters' world :)"Hope you like it, Inga. I'm anxious to start that one soon. Been lots of good stuff about the series so far.

ohh I have a real thing about her Dante Valentine series (#1 on the top 10 list of most hated female protags), but I haven't read this one.
ETA: Ah, this IS a DV book, didn't recognise it from the different edition cover. I didn't get into it, LL, but lots of people really like Dante, so it's probably just me ;)

Inga, I have these personal challenges goin': One Till Done & Double Shot and Better Late, Than Never, plus there's a re-read sorta-kinda challenge page here: Groundhog Day: Re-Reads Feel free to join in any/all. :D
Moss wrote: "ohh I have a real thing about her Dante Valentine series (#1 on the top 10 list of most hated female protags), but I haven't read this one ..."Oh dear, don't even start me on this series. In Working for the Devil I absolutely loved Dante and the whole book in general (apart from all the futuristic linguo) but for me, the series just went completely downhill. And Dante. Literally wanted to smack her in the face with a chair. All the time. The series had potential. So fustrating!!
So I really do hope people have more love for DV than I do. Happy reading *fingers crossed* :)
@ Vivan, Rachel, Awesomevegan -- I will pass on the suggestions to my niece. I have been so sick and on my back (and not reading!!) since Wednesday night! I am finally going to the doctor today, but it is so weird to be so sick and not want to listen to an audio book or read a book! I actually preferred to watch crappy movies on showtime and hbo all day yesterday, which is definitely not me. Hoping I get back into reading by tomorrow.
I'm with you Josie. Dante Valentine had a ton of unrealized potential. Each book left me wanting a little more from Dante and then the ending of the final book just ticked me off. I've complained about it somewhere else here on goodreads. If a series is going to continue, I might be okay with that kind of a mid-arc ending. But for a final book. Huh-Uh, no way. She was basically saying she's not happy, but this is the best she can do with her life? That is not the same kick-xxx Dante from the first book. I hated it so much that a couple years later, I'm still peeved. LOL. Do you think I'm too emotionally involved in my books? That's probably why I've had the first Jill Kismet book on my TBR forever. Here recently, Saintcrow wrote Taken for the HQN Nocturne line and I gave it a shot. At least it was a short read. I'm guessing it will be a long time ::coughnevercough:: before I get around to Night Shift.Read
and
over the weekend. Enjoyed both thoroughly. Currently reading

Yeh I liked the premise of the series, and the boy (can't remember his name), but Dante herself set my teeth on edge. She totally infuriated me. I remember after I read the first book going onto another group and having a terrific vent about it. Hehe. Very cathartic.

Thank you very much for the advice & info Moss, Josie & Daffodil! So basically, this series is good but it has a plethora of flaws? Hmmm. I'm almost finished with Working for the Devil & while I don't hate it, I'm far from in love. If I do continue it (& I plan on giving it one more try) it'll only be because of Japh. He's an intriguing character.Judithe wrote: "I'm in the middle of

The beginning didn't grab me much either but Part 2 was amazing. Now you understand what I meant by calling it an epic romance. How could 800 years of unrequited (or should I say unfulfilled?) love NOT be epic?
Do you plan on continuing this series anytime soon? I read Demon Moon recently & I loved it more than "Demon Angel", if that's even possible!
Hope you feel better soon Regina! Being sick is no fun, especially if you aren't even getting reading time out of it :(FINALLY finished
. The history was interesting, but the book itself was just alright. Back to
. This series is getting better and better!
I'm liking
so far, but I already feel bad for John. He's smart, very articulate for a HS student. More so that I remember being at that age. Although, I wasn't trying to keep from killing anyone either. LOL!I started the audiobook
today while running errands and am really enjoying it. I like the narrator's voice and the story is a refreshing switch from the typical.
Loved
even more than Magic Burns, so I've started
but then I'm gonna have to wait.... *sigh* .... for
like everyone else.Glad you're liking Destiny Kills, Steph, not long till
comes out.
Glad you've enjoyed Kate so much! SO excited for MS next month! :DThanks, I am. Hoping to grab MB later this month too.

Honestly, I can't remember much about the series past the sound of my blood singing for Dante to be cut up into ribbons. When I loathe I do it with gusto.
I'm almost finished with
. It's hilarious so far but I'm only about 15 pages in.
** Regina! I hope you get better. Back problems are ass. Sending mental Ibuprofen your way.

@Daffodil: Oh the ending annoyed me so much too. You can't just leave a series like that! When I wrote a review on the whole series, I listed about at least 10 unfinished/unexplained things that I expected to have been cleared up. Why mention stuff which you're going to leave as a forever mystery for the readers?? (view spoiler)@Lethal: Yes! Japh was my favourite character! Although it didn't seem like the author/Dante shared my view. Good luck with it though!
So, I'm pushing myself to finish
, about 50 pages until the end. I have books like Red-Headed Stepchild, Queen of Shadows, The Body Finder etc in front of me and I'm reading lines like:"Her blue eyes were so dark they were purple."
Eh?["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
I read
yesterday.@Steph -I'm glad you're liking I Am Not A Serial Killer.
@Regina -I hope you feel better soon!
I've just read Poison, a short story prequel to Elemental Assassin series from Finn's point of view set just after Gin a.k.a. "Little Miss Stabby" moved in when she was 13 and he 15.
Thanks everyone, 5.5 days later and I think I am finally on the mend. :) Antiobiotics are an amazing thing. Hoping to be reading again soon, I am just so mentally exhausted. Still enjoying watching what everyone else is reading though. :)
Thanks Ames! Until I saw your post I didn't realize Jennifer Estep had short stories on her website that fit into the Elemental Assassin universe. I'm going to read them all when I get a chance.Regina, glad to hear you're feeling better. Hopefully you'll be at 100% soon.

Hehe. I just finished a Jennifer Ashley book where the hero's eyes and cock kept muttering. Together. Sort of like a comedy routine. Sad when the copy editors don't catch this sort of thing. But so much more fun for me.
@Regina, so pleased to hear you're on the mend :) Hope you get to pick up a book soon and lose yourself in the healing world of muttering penises.

Thanks Ames, I'd forgotten JE had freebies, it'd been a while since I read Poison.Glad to hear you're feeling better Regina, you know you're not well when you can't even read.
Moss, which JA book had the muttering penises?

It's an...Immortals..?one. First time I've ever read her. I think the male protag's name is Tain and the female's is Samantha. To be fair, it's totally an editing mistake, the muttering is meant to refer to something he's saying at the same time; the sentence structure just ran it together with something his penis was doing and it ended up sounding hilariously bad.

LOL Moss, no worries, I thought you meant something like that. I've read one of her Pirates, and it was very funny, on purpose :)Ah, it was
, I've meant to get to that series. Must add it to the list. LOL
Ooh, Elemental Assassins shorts? Gotta look into those! Something to help pass the time until the next book :)

Although I don't think that the whole purple eyes was a mistake since in the majority of the book she had blue "sapphire" eyes and then every so often they would turn to a blue-violet shade. Who has this colour???
Glad you're on the mend, Regina. Hope you continue to feel better each day!LMAO! "Muttering penis"
I just started
on audio (first time listening to one in this series - I like the narrator's husky voice, probably b/c I tend to sound like I'm 10). I'm still enjoying
. I've had less reading time the past couple of days or I'd be done.I'm so anxious to get 'ta readin':
and will very soon! So many good releases lately! New & next-in-series. Ahhhh, to have unlimited reading time w/no RL interferences.
