I'm going to read this after I've finished my current book. Have you seen the film?

message 1210: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 139 comments I'm reading The Pale Blue Eye A Novel by Louis Bayard. As often happens, I had this one on my shelf for awhile, bought the novel he wrote after this, The Black Tower, read and enjoyed it, and then picked up the one I'd had the longest to read. Both are excellent historical fiction/mysteries.

I will have to dust that one off again. I keep starting it and then getting side-tracked. Thanks for the reminder.

I am reading Alex and Me and absolutely loving it. It is such a smart and funny true story about a scientist and her 30 year relationship with an African Grey parrot.

It is a must read for animal lovers!

Beth Diiorio (beth_diiorio) After reading The Kitchen Boy A Novel of the Last Tsar, I was looking for something more in depth about the Romanovs. A GoodReads friend recommended Nicholas and Alexandra, which I am currently reading.

I loved Pillars, couldn't put it down and re read it so many times I've had to buy it twice as my first copy fell apart. I was so excited when the second one came out that I bought it that day and chucked a sickie from work so I could read it all day!! I shouldn't have bothered. It was awful. It had none of the magic of Pillars and I didn't like the main characters at all. Stick with Pillars and you will love it, but don't wast your time or money on World Without End.

message 1221: by Arun (new)

Arun Divakar (arundivakar) | 10 comments I have hardly finished 100 pages...had a hectic weekend and the book had to suffer for it :(...the parts that I went through feels that Ken Follett is more passionate when writing about architecture..the people part, well..its too early to comment on it

Arun Divakar (arundivakar) | 10 comments What I felt on reading opinions is that there is no middle ground for this book, u either love it or hate it..970 pages is quite an investment of time...I have shelved a william dalrymple & Dan Simmons Ilium to finish this...I hope its worth it..

message 1223: by Lindz (new)

Lindz (miss_bovary00) A sickie for a novel! A girl after my own heart:).

I love Pillars, again have had to buy second copy. I can see why people why it divides people. The writing can be a little stiff and lifeless, and modern for 12th century England. The characters sometimes walk around like lego men. But the story is strong enough to carry it through. Plus you will be an expert on cathredal architecture

message 1224: by Andrez (new)

Andrez (andrez-ssi) lol.at the end I was sleeping.it just happened to me twice:pillars of the earth and codex 632, they were soooooo boring I couldnt read the whole story (tha was a huge offense, they were the only ones)

message 1225: by Arun (new)

Arun Divakar (arundivakar) | 10 comments This book seems to be rather remarkable some even remember it fondly from years ago while some others couldn't even finish it...I am almost a good 100 something pages into the book. The writing is flat at times but the details of medieval architecture seem to be increasing as pages go by...

message 1226: by Lindz (new)

Lindz (miss_bovary00) as I said you would be an expert on medieval architecture :)

Arun Divakar (arundivakar) | 10 comments I am onto Ilium by Dan Simmons..a tale from three perspectives and barring one with a lot of scientific jargon the others seem very engaging. The pace of the novel is commendable too...am into 480 odd pages and till now a very good read.

Yea, the hunchback is hard. I started reading it but had to return it to the library. I hate their due date systems.
