Shay | 923 comments Yay Megan for posting the first finished book of 2011 in this challenge!

McKris10, I'm pretty sure as long as you finish it in 2011, it's okay. Well, I'm hoping that's true because I have a few books in various stages of completion. But, I'm sure most people doing this challenge have a few unfinished books, too and want to count their books. So, I'm sure the answer will be yes. (Please, can the answer be yes?)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments Mckris10 asked, "I have a question...I am about 1/3 of the way done with a book, and I know that I'm not going to finish it in the next 10 minutes. ;) So can I count that book as read in 2011 or do I have to not count it on here? I don't care that much either way, I was just curious."

You can make your own call on that one McKris10. Whichever challenge you prefer to log it on is fine. :)

Wow, books done already? Did no one have a party to attend? lol. I can't talk though. I too completed a book when I should have been sleeping. I hope to take a nap soon. :D

How was London's Perfect Scoundrel?

message 59: by Kristen (new)

Kristen | 223 comments I think I will count the book because it's nonfiction, over 600 pages (I'm only on page 200-something), and it's a slow read. Most likely I will be reading it all through January. The book that I finished early this morning I am not counting on this challenge because I only had about 40 pages left...that would not be fair. :o)

Carol (peppersgirl) | 113 comments Is there a minimum amount of pages for a book to count? I know children's picture books probably don't count but what about longer children's stories and nonfiction. Do they count? I read a lot of them for my job.

Carol, page count doesn't matter to us. We really don't mind if you read children's books. We're pretty lenient.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I always count audiobooks. I think the only challenge I ever did that didn't allow audios was a page count challenge on PBS a couple of yrs ago. I could see why they wouldn't count for that because you can "read" a lot of pages while driving, cleaning, exercising etcc., if you use audios.

That sounds kind of unfair to me. You can always get the page count of the "real book" version of an audio book from GR. I don't listen to audiobooks, but I really don't get why people have problems with it. How can something be cheating when it (audiobooks) takes longer than to read a "real" book? Isn't cheating supposed to be taking the easy, faster, shorter way to get an advantage? Audiobooks aren't any of those.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments I had planned to get a bunch of reading done yesterday and ended up getting hardly any done. My daughter had a project due today, I got into some cleaning and then ended up going shopping.

I'm the only one at work today and plan on reading during my 30m lunch and my 10mbreak (and mayb e sneak a page here and there). And since I did a bunch of housework yesterday, I will probably read this evening. Or at least during the commercials for How I Met Your Mother and Hawaii 5-0. I need an Alex O'Loughlan shirtless fix.

Sans Sarah, I'm impressed that you've listed out your 100! If I tried that, the list could constantly be changing. I'm too much of a mood reader. ^_^

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments I had a quick question. What is the majority's opinion on including magazines for this challenge? I subscribe to Discover magazine and read it cover to cover. It is all about science and no where near a light, quick read, at least for me.

message 85: by Carol (new)

Carol (peppersgirl) | 113 comments I was thinking about this too. There are a lot of magazines that I read cover to cover. I think as long as you read all of the articles and don't just skip through and look at the pictures they should count. What does everyone else think? Would this include all periodicals such as newspapers?

message 86: by Shay (new)

Shay | 923 comments I don't read magazines, but I would imagine some people would object because a lot of it is advertisements and pictures. Me personally, I don't care and wouldn't consider it "cheating" if other people want to count magazines. In essence all challenges are personal, we're really competing against ourselves and trying to make the commitment to read more. As long as the individual feels it's equivalent to a book, who am I to judge?

message 87: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments Rachel, Let me discuss it with Sashana and Lauren. Part of me agrees with you because before my daughter went to school we had a habit of reading magazines like Ranger Rick and a couple of others. Her school wouldn't let her count them in her reading logs. It was very upsetting because it really made her interested in reading. Perhaps we should create a magazine challenge?

message 88: by Tricia (new)

Tricia Schneider (triciaschneider) | 115 comments Oh, I like the magazine challenge idea! I have a lot of mags that I read, too. It would be interesting to keep track of them.

message 89: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Cool. Sounds good! Just thought I would see what you all thought about it. :) Let me know the verdict. I honestly won't fall apart if the answer is no. Lol.

It's sort of a history montage and I am enjoying it (I'll finish it tonight so I went ahead and added it long as I was here). Occasionally she lapses into a sentence that sounds like it was written for a school thesis but for the most part very readable and in some places you find yourself saying "how the heck did she uncover THAT?". I read her other one which was about sex with kings and liked it also.
