Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments About 150 pages in to the new Jim Butcher, Harry Dresden book; Skin Game Skin Game (The Dresden Files, #15) by Jim Butcher .
FAB-U-LOUS!

message 758: by Chris (new)

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments I have been missing Harry Dresden since finishing the 15th book in the series and was about to return to Keven Hearn's Iron Druid series by way of a consolation, however I've been recommended Benedict Jacka's Alex Verus series. Downloaded Fated, Fated (Alex Verus, #1) by Benedict Jacka and had a quick read. Has anyone read this series, what do you think?

Angela (bookangel2) | 1454 comments I finished No Justice: A Michael Sykora Novel a couple of days ago. A good read if you enjoy thrillers. Nearly finished with The Language of Flowers, which I have mixed feelings about. Has anyone else read it?
I'm working through the books I've started and left unfinished, but think my next read will be something new on my kindle.

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments I've had some really odd reads lately, books I would normally "devour" have sat ignored and unloved, then a few, I've not intended to read but finished anyway. Now I'm into Raven Black, by Ann Cleeves, which looks promising

Craig Jarvis (cj76) | 25 comments Just finished The Maze Runner... Didn't really want to dive into another dystopian teen trilogy, but then I watched the trailer and just had read it before I went to see it at the cinema... I wast disappointed

"You are plunged into the action, just as confused and frightened as the characters you meet. There are no rules – or none that make sense – but gradually you learn to survive, and to hope. Or is that another trick? This is brilliant, nail-gnashing stuff.”
That is how the publisher describes this book and I couldn't have put it any better myself!!

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments Craig - it sounds good, my pre-teen daughter is looking for some holiday reading. Would you think it is suitable for a 12 year old who loved the Hunger Games and I am number Four series

Hi Chris if your daughter liked the hunger games trilogy then I would think that she would love this... I've just started the second in the series and has not disappointed so far!

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments Reading Natchez Burning, Natchez Burning (Penn Cage, #4) by Greg Iles . I'm about half way through and it is awesome. I've loved all of the Penn Cage stories, but this one is so complex and gritty, I wish I had more time to read.

The Last Monarch Butterfly: Conserving the Monarch Butterfly in a Brave New World

Just finished this book as I released 2 Monarch butterflies this evening. They were born this morning but ready to go. They might make it 20 miles toward Mexico before they have to roost for the night. Be sure to plant some milkweed in your garden for them.

Craig Jarvis (cj76) | 25 comments Just finished Killers by Shaun Jeffrey

Really enjoyed this book. You get to know a bit more of what makes Prosper tick, more of an insight into his personal family life.
Mutilated bodies start to turn up on Prospers patch, but every time he turns up to investigate a guy from a top secret branch of MI5 turns up to take over the investigation removing Prosper from the case, only to offer him a job as part of his team..!
As prosper starts to delve into the murders he uncovers the shocking truth of who and why the killer is leaving dead bodies every where..!

If you liked The Kult then this is a must.... Just hope there is more to come from Prosper Snow!!!

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments Nearly finished;
Dark Side of the Moon by Sherrilyn Kenyon - It's ok but nothing special
Us by David Nicholls - I loved ONE DAY, but I'm afraid the main character Douglas sucks the joy of life out of everything. I'm 100 or so pages in but I cannot muster the will to pick it up again right now.
Dark Places by Gillian Flynn - only just started
We Were Liars by E. Lockhart, also only just started

message 787: by Chris (new)

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments Just read 100 pages straight of We Were Liars, and had to share with you that it is awesome. It was a group read earlier in the year, but I've only just got to it. Gotta go. I have an hour or so before I have to get myself ready to leave the house, so I have time for a further few chapters - Yay me!

T4bsF (Call me Flo) (time4bedsaidflorence) Just started
Be Careful What You Wish For (The Clifton Chronicles #4) by Jeffrey Archer Be Careful What You Wish For by Jeffrey Archer

and hoping it will be as good as the 3 others in the Clifton Chronicles series.

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments I'm reading Dying For Christmas, a psychological thriller with a very dark theme. The narrator Jessica appears to be one of the most unreliable narrators I've encountered in a long time. Good stuff, but I'm only about a third through, so I've not yet reached the shocking twist!

Erin-Yvonne (erinpredmore) | 9 comments Just finished The Witness by Nora Roberts and started right on Cross by James Patterson.
the first was very quick, got right into it and had a hard time putting it down.
So far Cross is moving right along and keeping my attention as well.
I am also reading the Lord of the Rings (all three books in one, I'm on the last book) It's a slow read but very good.
