I'm about two thirds way through Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, I'm sort of enjoying it. Full of suspense, conniving and deceit, but the pace is a tad slow for me. Good reviews so I'll keep going

I've returned to the books I was reading before Whispers Under Ground. Two of them are quite meaty and taking a time - Villette and The Night Watch - but I'm enjoying them. On my kindle, I'm reading Lost Shadows by Julie Elizabeth Powell. Also a good read:)Having a bit of a go-slow at the moment - frustrating, as there are so many books that I want to get on to!

I had my doubts before I started the series but I fell in love a few of the characters and found I was reading as quickly as I could to see what happened to them. The way the book is written there are so many different storylines going on at the same time that I found it was actually a relatively quick read for such a large book. I have to say though it took a number of chapters before I had all the characters in my head correctly instead of trying to remember who was related to who. LOL I can't wait to start the next book.
i've just started city of bones by cassandra clare. so far im not to sure what to think about it. im gunna try to stick with it but may have to give it up.
Reading The Cat Who Could Read Backwards and The Dragondain right now, but I have a rotten cold and my attention span is shorter than that of a guppy! I think tonight might be lemsip and a Merlin DVD rather that reading :-(

lol no just chilled out read abit and rest was walking around and drinking lol
Chris wrote: "Gosh Shelli, a mixture you have there! When I read The Count of Monte Cristo last year, it took me over 2 months, but I did it a little at a time and enjoyed it.
Chris wrote: "Gosh Shelli, a mixture you have there! I'm nearly finished with The Jewel of St. Petersburg by Kate Furnivall
Very slow month for me:(Still reading Villette and The Night Watch! It's not that I don't like them, but just can't seem to concentrate on either for long. Determined to finish both though, before moving on!

I advise giving it up! There are better things IMO.

Slow for me too as I cannot seem to focus. But I tried Villette as I purchased it years ago and could never get into it so hats off to you for hanging in there on it. I am reading Salem's Lot again and it sure holds my attention. It has just the right amount of fright for me.

Starting reading (re-reading!) The House on the Strand by Daphne du Maurier. Really enjoying it again:)

Oh, I love that book too. I have also read it over and over. I am reading The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie. I don't like the title but this series is fantastic. I really enjoy Flavia de Luce. I just wish I could figure out what part of England she lives in as that is super confusing for me.

I think the geographical setting is an idealised rural area rather than a real area, but if it helps, I think the Cotswolds would be about right. Lots of small villages/market towns, thatched roof cottages built of sandstone so they are a pleasant pale gold colour, quaint cobbled streets etc.
I am rereading The Seekers by John Jakes.
Started another -
. It's the first part of a trilogy by Julie Elizabeth Powell - written for children. A good read so far!
Thanks Jackie. The Cotswolds. Is that part of the Lake Distract where Beatrix Potter lived?
Angela wrote: "Starting reading (re-reading!) The House on the Strand by Daphne du Maurier. Really enjoying it again:)"I also recently reread The House On the Strand. Daphne duMaurier is one of my favorite authors and Strand one of my favorite books. I also just read her Jamaica Inn and loved it

The Kent Family Saga is one of my all time favorite series
Lady ~☆ Alice☆~ wrote: "Thanks Jackie. The Cotswolds. Is that part of the Lake Distract where Beatrix Potter lived?"No, the Cotswolds are mostly in Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire, with bits in Wiltshire, Warwickshire, Somerset and Worcestershire (at least I think there are bits in Somersetshire and Worcestershire). So they are in the of South England a bit West of central (but not so far West that they'd be considered South West England).
The Lake district is further North. It's rural and stunningly beautiful, but I think Flavia would mention lakes more if she lived there and mountains too (there plenty of both and they are lovely). I also suspect that it would be hard to travel to London and back in a day from the Lake district, at least in the 50's when the books were set. (If I remember rightly, in one of the books Flavia goes to London and back in a day to visit the dentist).
However, someone who lives in, or knows the Lake district better than me might disagree with me!

It wasn't until I started to re-read The House on the Strand that I remembered how much I loved the Daphne du Maurier books I read years ago. I may have to find some more to read!
I have not read very much at all recently, I have been cataloguing all my books, ebooks/kindle, DTB and audio and I'm ashamed to say I have over 1000 books unread! I was introduced to some software for storing ebooks and it went from there, the OCD kicked in and now everything has to be tagged with the correct genre, the title and authors name have to be in the right format etc. and all listed on a spread-sheet. I'm driving myself up the wall so goodness knows what my family are putting up with! I'm not 2/3 done yet either. Is there a book addicts anonomous meeting out there along the lines of AA? I expect there a few of you to join me too?!
Reading and enjoying The Name of the Wind, when I can tear myself away from the sorting out!
Chris wrote: "I have not read very much at all recently, I have been cataloguing all my books, ebooks/kindle, DTB and audio and I'm ashamed to say I have over 1000 books unread! This does mean I know that I have in the region of 1,500 unread books. At least that's how many I've found so far. Very few were duplicates. I now have to read 2 unread books before I can buy 1 new (to me) one. Ideally, I should have a complete ban on buying for a while (like the next year or two!), but I'm aiming for something I might be able to do.
At the moment I'm reading one of the 1,500 - Broken Angels. I'm liking it so much, I'm going to log out and read a bit more before I have to start work for the afternoon.

I really must start to catalogue mine - they're all over the place and I can't remember where they all are, let alone WHAT they are. I'm definitely not buying as many now that I have the kindle, but download so many free books that I have a slightly overloaded feeling there:)
Not reading quite so much lately, either, but mostly because the ones I've got on the go are quite long, but also I'm busy knitting - grandbaby number 6 is due in about 4 weeks time:)

Angela I've made it my goal to read at least one Daphne duMaurier book a month until I read or reread them all.

LOL Chris ~ I feel your pain. I am currently ripping apart my 'library' which is in 3 separate rooms plus my basement and I know I have 1000 or so unread not including what's on my kindle. I'm trying very hard to purge as I go because obviously I need to but also trying to catalogue and sort and mainly just figure out what the heck I have in this mess 'o books.
I'm currently rereading Major Pettigrew's Last Standfor a discussion and enjoying it as much as I did the first time
I've just read The Family Portrait, because you recommended Graham Masterton. It was brilliant (but not a good one to read when you were eating).
Wheat Belly which a friend advised me to read and everyone should read it! Wheat is NOT good for you. I am also reading 5 other books. Still very ADD.
Wheat Belly: Lose the Wheat, Lose the Weight, and Find Your Path Back to Health

I've been using this weekend to "finish up" a few books I've had on the go for a while. The Name of the Wind is a favourite and I need to read the 2nd of the trilogy soon
The Wolf Gift is not my cup of tea, it's the 3rd Ann Rice I've read, and I'm not likely to read any more
All the Pretty Horses, is wonderful, but just a little grumble, I don't read Spanish!
Started The Descent as it was loaned to me and I've had it for ages. Also started The Woman Who Went to Bed for a Year at the recommendation of a friend.
I am re-reading Jane Bites Back by Michael Thomas Ford as I got the others in the series last month and I needed a refresher as it was a while since I read it. Forgot how funny it was! Also ploughing my way through The Grapes of Wrath which has been in my library for the last 30 years or so! I am making no headway with Flowers for Algernon so that's on hold at the moment!
The Mammoth Book of Steampunk I am reading between, which is a book of short stories, some good, so not so but easy to read for a change of scene!

I have .....
when I saw you were not reading The Furies I was going to ask if you were working your way through the series ...
I've read the entire series at least twice and I've been wanting to read it again. I still have my original book club hardcovers but when I recently found The Bastard ebook for 0.99 I had to get it. I'm looking forward to reading the rest again
