Josh (firequake) I really enjoyed Iron King, which although simplistic, has some interesting concepts. Can anyone recommend some additional books based around Fey/Faerie legend, some that preferably go more in depth?

Have you read Fever series by Karen Marie Moning? I really enjoyed it and I think the Fae mythology was really good. Her Highlanders series involve that as well, although I'm just starting that one. :) Then there's also Meredith Gentry series by Laurell K. Hamilton.

jD (jd_4everbooked) | 67 comments Good books on the fae can be hard to find especially if you are looking outside of YA (young adult).
BTW -- I loved Iron Elves.

If you are looking for dark, yet romantic, I recommend the following:
Night Myst (Indigo Court #1) new series, vampires, fae, witches...ends with cliffhanger. I am waiting on Book 2.

If you want something challenging, I highly recommend Lord of the Fading Lands (Tairen Soul #1). This is a 5 book series and it is complete as of a few months ago. Every one of those were a 4-5-star read for me.

The fae also play a major role in most of the Dresden Files books. Thanks for asking the question, I see a few on this list that I have not checked out yet.

Regina (reginar) The Mercy Thompson series by Briggs.

Julia | 615 comments Read nearly any of Charles de Lint's Newford, or more recently he's moved the locations of his novels to the Southwest. Newford is a rustbelt notheastern city, that could be in Canada or could be in America, with poor people, the homeless and magic. You can start with whatever de Lint novel (or short story collection, he writes thos too) come first to hand.

These are some of the first that come to mind:
The Painted Boy,
Someplace to Be Flying,
Trader,Moonlight and Vines.

Also the Borderlands shared universe is a treat and with a new book coming out in the spring? these may be reprinted as well.
Life On The Border,
Bordertown: Where Magic Meets Rock & Roll,The Essential Bordertown,Finder,Nevernever.

CaliGirlRae (rae_l) If you like the Iron Fey series (and I agree, it's awesome :-D) definitely check out the Woundrous Strange series by Lesley Livingston. It has the same sort of theme (Oberon and Titania, main character is half Fey/daughter to Oberon and Queen Maab) but takes the story in a different direction. Of the two, Iron Fey is stronger but it's still interesting to read another side to the same theme.

Wondrous Strange
Darklight
Tempestuous (Coming 2011)

The rest of the Iron Fey series was pretty awesome and a fourth book is on the way. Winter's Passage is the free novella out now between books 1 & 2.

For other fae books:

Bones of Faerie
Faerie Wars
Lament: The Faerie Queen's Deception
Ballad: A Gathering of Faerie
Queene of Light
Eyes Like Stars
Summer Knight
Faerie Blood
Tithe
Unseelie (If you liked the Grim character in Iron Fey, there's another version of him here)

Lisa O. | 48 comments There's also the Merry Gentry series by Laurell K Hamilton. Just to warn you, there is a lot of sex in this series, but there is also a lot of Fae mythology and magic and I really liked it. The first book is A Kiss of Shadows.

Joseph (bluemanticore) | 138 comments One of the main characters in Kim Harrison's Rachel Morgan series is a pixie and you run into fairies from time to time in Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden series.

♥Tricia♥ (siddie) | 91 comments Foresight (Gods of Fate) by Sherry D. Ficklin

If I recall Foresight has some fae in it, and it's story is based off mythology as well.

message 14: by new_user (new)

new_user Storm Born is probably the best UF novel I've read with them. All the heroine's adventures and revolve around the fey, and she actually crosses into the fey world, so you get a little more exposure, I think.

But if you don't mind something that leans a little more toward historical fantasy, I highly recommend Daughter of the Forest. One of the best fae books and one of the better books I've read at all.

message 15: by Omi (new)

Omi | 9 comments The Alex Craft series by Kalayna Price. It UF but also has a fae realm and the writer has put in good research into folk-law and added her own twists to it. It is really well written I can not recommendatory it enough.

Grave Witch (Alex Craft, #1) by Kalayna Price
Grave Dance (Alex Craft, #2) by Kalayna Price

message 18: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (katmax100) I'd also recommend the following books:

Sixty-One Nails
The Road to Bedlam
Strangeness and Charm

and although its hard to get hold of these days this series is set in the lands of the fey as well

http://www.goodreads.com/series/43705...

And Tad Williams wrote a stand alone Fey book which I think is one of his better ones.

The War of the Flowers

and there's 5 books in this Fey series which is all about invasion of fey lands
