Jessica (studioeastrat) | 511 comments I have not thrown a book across the room before but I have gotten so frustrated that I quit reading it. Breaking Dawn was like that for me. I just got tried of Bella. Oh she annoyed the heck out of me. I still haven't finished it.

Anne Mikusinsi (abghostwriter) | 36 comments I just can't understand the appeal of the Twilight books. Then again, I know people who hate things that I love so...
Everyone is different I suppose.

Jill I threw Harry Potter And the Order of the Pheonix across the room when Sirius died. I mean come on!!!! The mans life sucked, and it was just coming around and bam!!! Totally p'ed me off.
Echo in the Bone by Diana Gabaldon also made me super mad. What a way to end a book, and the 2-3 year wait between them just makes it torture.

message 155: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (studioeastrat) | 511 comments @ Anne - Yeah I got stucked into reading them because alot of my friends just loved them and they went on and on about how good they were. So I decided to givethem a try. They weren't really that bad. I just got sick of the main character and how wishy washy she was. Plus she was a tease and characters like that really urk my chain.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Wow, Addicted is a book I wanted to toss... maybe I did! It ended too abruptly and not with a HEA. Turns out the publisher insisted on cutting it short so the epilogue was released online by the author.

Wish I had known that when reading the book.

message 157: by Gemma (new)

Gemma (bookmoodreviews) | 241 comments Well, here is one of my first DNF books. Anno Dracula. I just couldn't finish it at all. 150 pages in and I was wondering if I could suffer through the whole thing. Turns out...NO.

message 158: by Nadine (new)

Nadine | 18 comments I sometimes get annoyed by books to the eye-rolling point, but rarely ever do I have the profound urge to toss it across the room. Well, there's a first time for everything, and when I was reading His Darkest Embrace, not only did I struggle to finish it and wanted to hurl it away from me as far as possible, I really wanted to strangle the book time and again. The first book in the series was bad enough (and I should have known better than to pick up the second one, but alas, I was hoping the writing style might have improved... Hope dies last, eh?), but this book almost had me in physical pain while reading.
The writing style was just ... insufferable. Repetitive sentence structure (to the point where I was only looking for the next repetition of the pattern and not paying attention to the plot anymore), overuse of adverbs and adjectives, and similes that had me stop reading and asking "Seriously??"
If it had been paperback and not an e-book on my Kobo, I'd have relished the satisfaction of hearing the THUD of it hitting the wall across the room.

message 159: by Adoore (new)

Adoore | 10 comments If it wasn't because it was an ebook on my nook and I love my nook to much to through against the wall I would of thrown "Lover Reborn" by J.R. Ward and then I would of stomped on it. It destroyed the BDB universe for me. I loved the Bonded/mate for life and beyond and this book just killed the series for me.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Bummer, Adoore! You're still struggling with that? :(

message 161: by Adoore (new)

Adoore | 10 comments I loved the series I really did. But I have moved on to others. IAM and the Psy/changeling are awesome. But I was going through my messages and I ran into this link and I had to voice the book that almost made me through my nook against the wall and I love my nook.

I have Psychangling, but what is IAM? Do you mean IAD?

The Psy/Changeling and IAD books are great. I'm glad you have made a love connection with those, Adoore.

message 164: by Adoore (new)

Adoore | 10 comments Duh!!!! yes I do mean IAD I don't know what I was thinking. I just finished the series and am now a huge fan of IAD series. Currently reading the Psy/Changeling series and am falling in love with it.

IAD was one of my first PNR series. Still a favorite of mine.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Have you read the Guild Hunters, Adoore? My daughter loves that series even better than Psy!

I still need to read IAD. Everyone raves about it.

message 167: by Adoore (new)

Adoore | 10 comments I will be reading the Guild Hunters as soon as I am caught up to the Psy/changeling series.

The IAD is awesome I love the series.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish That's good to hear, Adoore. One of these days I'll get to it.

message 169: by Nomad (new)

Nomad I was reading 'Never Love a Bad Boy'and it was AWFUL. Grammar and spelling mistakes galore. And I honestly think that no one ever told this woman what the proper use of an exclamation point is. There were several per paragraph. Nothing is consistently that exciting.

There were constant continuity errors. At one point the heroine runs away for 6 months, the next chapter it's 3 years. There is SCANT phaysical description of the heroine and we don't even know her name for one quarter of the book.

Also, she has THE creepiest conversation with her "grandmama" in which her grandmother tells her to move away and get laid often by a man who knows how. Riiiight.

The whole setup is rushed in the extreme and in a few chapters the woman goes from being a pampered academic princess in the midwest to a bar hostess in Japan (Tokyo presumably, but who really knows) and involved with a Yakuza higher up. And there is barely ANY time spent on getting the couple togehter. Out of nowhere they are together and that's that. Then she runs away, then she's back. It was really impossible to care about either of them either on their own or together because there is no opportunity given to do so.

It was so bad that halfway through I was uninterested in reading anymore and deleted it from my nook. And I have no regrets whatsoever on that choice.

Sorry to hear about that book Nomad. I wish the book was in print and your library carried it. That way you could have checked it out and read it, before buying the book.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Nomad wrote: "It was so bad that halfway through I was uninterested in reading anymore and deleted it from my nook. And I have no regrets whatsoever on that choice. "

Wow! Sounds very unpleasant :(

message 172: by Nomad (new)

Nomad It's 5 dollars wasted. But at least it wasn't anymore expensive than that. I wish there was a way to return e-books the way there is with regular books.

message 173: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresatheduchessofread) | 91 comments So I am pretty sure that most of you will disagree with me here but I hated absolutely hated Outlander. I thought it was boring and horrible. After about 400 pages I looked more closely at a lot of the reviews and said forget it. It just wasn't a book for me.

message 174: by Lucy (new)

Lucy Francis (lucyfrancis) | 15 comments You're not alone, Teresa. I couldn't read Outlander, the voice was like nails on a chalkboard for me.

I'm also one of the few people in the world, apparently, who couldn't get past the first few pages of The Hunger Games.

message 175: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 39 comments I normally would never throw my books but I have to admit I did throw this one. I was reading Faefever (Fever, #3) by Karen Marie Moning when I got to the end I was so mad I did threw it across the room. I was so frustrated with the way it ended and how long I would have to wait for the next book to come out. I almost gave up on the series but decided to wait for everything to be released and then read it all. Made all the difference in the world for me.

Another one that I didn't throw but when came to the end was really frustrated was The Six Sacred Stones by Matthew Reilly I still haven't finished the third book, but I have to admit that I always remember the book.

Sometimes we are salmons swimming upstream when it comes to books that everyone loves. Mine is Prince Joe. I couldn't stand the heroine. I think I would have tossed it, except it was a library book!

message 177: by Nomad (new)

Nomad The only book I ever actually threw was in the 8th grade. We had to read 'Roots' for our english class. 'Roots' is one hell of an indepth look into the horrors of slavery in a multi-generational format.

Now, not that I think that 'Roots' should not be read, in fact I think it should be required reading... but maybe at an older age? I ended up throwing the book across the room, it fell behind my radiator and I was crying my eyes out. My mother was kind of freaked. Though perhaps my crying about how there couldn't possibly be a G-d if He would allow horrible things like that to occur made it worse.

I was a very sensitive child, the sort who brought hurt animals home, and hugged teased classmates. So a no holds barred and graphic look into slavery was perhaps a bit too much for my 13 year old self. I did read it again as an adult and thought it was very well written and was able to get more out of it at the age of 28 than I was at a much younger age.

message 178: by 404 Not Found (new)

404 Not Found I never thought I would be so frustrated with a book until yesterday. I just left a big rant in my review too. If I had the actually copy of the book in my hands instead of the digital version, I would have went outside and threw the thing in the road where I hoped it would have been run over again and again....

message 180: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (ashhhamanda) The only book I really hate is Angela's Ashes. The book made me want to shoot myself. Great Expectationsis a close second.

message 181: by Nomad (new)

Nomad Amanda, when I worked in Barnes and Noble someone came in and said "I'm looking for a book about being desperately poor in Ireland."

I immediately brought her over to Angela's Ashes, and then told her to read the book with a glass of wine. Otherwise severe depression might set in. Somehow I still managed to sell her the damn book.

Though to be fair for about 125 years "I'm looking for a book about being desperately poor in Ireland." described the vast bulk of Irish literature.

message 182: by Laura (new)

Laura The only book I actually threw across the room was Heart Of Darkness by Joseph Conrard. We had to read it in 12th grade. It was the most awful book. Then the teacher wanted us to watch apocolyspe now because it was a modern day version of the book. I refuse to attend class that day. I hate watching violence.

message 183: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) Laura, I can only sympathise... I had to go through it in my first year at uni... English not being my mother tongue, I really really REALLY struggled... Waste of time, because I can't remember any of it now !

message 184: by Lauren (last edited Oct 01, 2012 02:14AM) (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) I had to read it for my 20th century lit class at university and it is an awful book. The long winded prose and overly complicated plot make it extremely difficult to follow. It also misses the mark on all the points it tries to make about good and evil and violence in society.

message 185: by Laura (new)

Laura I totally agree Lauren. At least you got to wait to read it in uni, not in high school. We read a lot of great books in high school but that wasn't one of them.

I didn't care for Heart of Darkness. Seemed kind of pointless.

message 187: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (shinhbang) | 139 comments I've never really tossed a book. But I was close to tossing this one The Conqueror by Brenda Joyce . Seriously, the heroine pissed me off to another level.

This one Claimed by the Wolf (Shadow Guardians, #1) by Charlene Teglia was just seriously weird and annoying. I mean, what immortal male is okay with sharing his woman around sexually???????

Oh! I almost tossed this Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades, #1) by E.L. James too! Too repetitive. Too boring. Too slow. Too full of Christian, a weirdo for a hero. Too much of a 22 year old woman acting like a 16 year old.

Yep. That's about it.

Totally agree with you...I watch tv less and less because most of the programs is full with crude humour lacking a decent plot...the language income of the books I read also horrifies me sometimes....the trilogy ( never read it but heard enough about it to stay away from it) is one of them...it sounds too mechanical and degrading of a person for my liking

message 195: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah...Mr Grey character was a real put off for me too but it is the naughty content that got the people buying these series...I also stay away from books that remind me of my childhood...no need to waste money to read something that resurrect past in a not very nice way...

I wanted to shred this book into bits, manually powder those bits and blow it away into some far off land.
There is a fine line between angst and brutality. This book messed up big time for me. Couldn't stomach it at all.

I wanted to burn Bobbi smith's runaway...there were so many women beating bad people and seemed only one good man who seemed senseless on a suicide mission...arrrggghh..it was downright depressing..I actually couldn't finish it...felt that my precious weekend could not possible be wasted on this book....too many bad people in a book is a real put off for me....

message 198: by Zoe (new)

Zoe Forward (zforward) | 5 comments I actually had a toss that book moment. Reading Pryor's Blood Shadows and the super alpha vamp hero, Kane, referred to his fangs as incisors. They're canines...unless he's a new species of vamp. My mind really got stuck at that point. But I finished it since I purchased it. Blood Shadows by Lindsay J. Pryor

Goge (BARRONS) le Moning Maniac, | 288 comments LMFAO I could not NOT check out this topic.. because I'm guilty of doing this too:p I can count on one hand (or maybe two?) the number of times I've thrown a book across the room. I accidentally dented a wall before: too fed up, throw was too forceful, book left a dent in wall; I regret throwing the book. In my defense, I couldn't bear to be holding such inane and stressful material. It needed out of my hands or it would cease to exist. Hence, I settled for a 'throw across the room' and killing stars in the reviews. I've learned my lesson though (need to fix that dent in the wall), I won't be throwing books anymore.
