David (nullnvoid) Oh yes, Skimz. Please send it to me when you get a chance. I like to point and laugh (from a safe distance) at my own trainwreckiness.

message 52: by David (new)

David (nullnvoid) Aw thanks, Eh! You're sweet. ♥

Kim (kmdoubleday) | 9 comments Are there years assigned to the ages? I think I'm a golden ager® Maybe we should be reassigned in the Chinese Zodiac... that's more exotic. We could be year of the Dogs...

message 55: by Kim (new)

Kim (kmdoubleday) | 9 comments I was going to suggest sending you a molestation doll, but Eh! beat me to it.

It's at work, David... I'll email you it tomorrow. Any others? I think I've saved a few...

message 56: by Eh?Eh! (new)

Eh?Eh! | 48 comments Do you have The Giving Tree, Kim???? I would send you non-molestation dolls for that.

message 57: by Mariel (new)

Mariel (fuchsiagroan) Year of the molestation doll seems appropriate for 2010. I'm in that group.

message 58: by Kim (new)

Kim (kmdoubleday) | 9 comments Yep. I have the giving tree...

You learn to quickly snatch up the David reviews... before he hits the Gin.

(Don't drink w/ him... it's dangerous)

David (nullnvoid) Kim wrote: "I'm biased, but I liked Maurice's Bible review... or the thread that followed..."

That thread was vicious! King Dinosaur proved yet again what an incredible, legendary asshole he was (and still is -- more than ever).

Eh?Eh! | 48 comments [image error]

Please Kim, might I have The Giving Tree? I made so many people read that thing, and the word "weave" still makes me bust up laughing.

message 62: by David (new)

David (nullnvoid) Skimz, do you have Flowers in the Attic? That was my favorite of my reviews...

message 63: by Kim (new)

Kim (kmdoubleday) | 9 comments I don't think so.. I kept them all at work.. I can check though..

Yes, Eh! I'll send it to you tomorrow... :)

message 64: by Kim (new)

Kim (kmdoubleday) | 9 comments I might have that...

message 66: by David (last edited Dec 02, 2010 05:13PM) (new)

David (nullnvoid) But I don't remember that review, Brian! Other than that it referenced Joker's Wild with Jack Barry and probably had very little to do with the book. (The latter is actually pure speculation based on the fact that half -- or more -- of them were tangential at best.) But thanks for thinking my idiocy is important to preserve.

message 67: by David (new)

David (nullnvoid) No, Brian, cats are MUCH BETTER than children. Everybody knows that.

message 68: by Eh?Eh! (new)

Eh?Eh! | 48 comments Brian wrote: "Oh, Eh! already crossposted a begging image, making me look completely unoriginal. Nice work, Eh! -now David will NEVER rewrite F&Z!

Hahaha, always copying me, Bri-angel! But you did get a better begging pic.

message 69: by David (last edited Dec 02, 2010 05:20PM) (new)

David (nullnvoid) OH YEAH!!! The person who wrote the Joker's Wild Wikipedia entry is CRAZY!!!

Remember the old days -- when if you wanted to know how many bulbs there were on a game show set, you were S.O.L.? Well, the fluorescent light of wisdom pointless data shoos away all the shadows of ignorance now, via the Interwebs®!

karen (karenbrissette) | 33 comments oh my god - this has devolved into a "suck david's dick" contest. DOES NO ONE SEE HOW DANGEROUS THIS IS??

Joshua Nomen-Mutatio (joshuanomenmutatio) | 77 comments I'm backing away so I don't get any in my eye.

Now bring yours over here, doll, lemme rinse out with some Listerine first...

Joshua Nomen-Mutatio (joshuanomenmutatio) | 77 comments As I mention in the comment section of it: I love Mike's The Road review.

message 75: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine | 199 comments I tend to like michael's reviews they (at least the ones I've read) tend to be fun and kinda gimmicky.

I am really bad at picking favorite reviews, but the most recent review that made me feel inadequate as a reviewer was this one:

Joshua Nomen-Mutatio (joshuanomenmutatio) | 77 comments Aww shucks. Thanks, Jasmine.

message 77: by [deleted user] (new)

Aw, I loved AJ Griffin's reviews! He was one of my first goodreads friends. I read all of his in one pop when I first discovered him. I loved his Animorphs review, Harriet the Spy, Their Eyes Were Watching God, Ohio, and Beowulf. And The Five People You Meet in Heaven! He was funny and also smart. I got the feeling from his reviews that he used drugs pretty heavily at times. I wonder what he's doing, now...

I also love Kim's reviews. And Bellsy's. I loved David's Travels with Charley and Cannery Row reviews. And the one where he read it on a plane under duress, but was enthralled all the same. Was that Winesburg, Ohio?

I will link some, too. I have loved some of brian's and DFJ's, too. I love how brian thinks all his favorites are THE BEST THING EVER and the authors are all THE GREATEST GUYS EVER and he's going to kill himself one day when they die.

Jen (missonethousandspringblossoms) Was the plane one the review where DK writes about a pillow in the shape of a cheese wedge?

Scribble Orca (scribbleorca) | 123 comments Brian the Parrot (for teh l-e-e-e-e-n-gth).

Aerin, for the honesty.

Caris, for the humour.

Kat, for the pix and going completely off-topic.

Tatiana, for reviewing stuff I wouldn't touch with a barge pole.

Manny, for mimicking Monty Python.

Ceridwen, for saying that Ursula K Le Guin can peel her inside out and define her true name.

Joshua Nomen-Mutatio (joshuanomenmutatio) | 77 comments I saw that one coming. TWSS.

message 86: by [deleted user] (new)

Sonuva...nevermind

message 87: by [deleted user] (new)

I couldn't be arsed to break out the google-fu, so figured I'd just ask. Then worked it out myself a minute later.

Heyo, folks, lets provide some links! For those of us who don't know these reviewers, the names don't mean shit. We're trying to help people find/read these reviews, right?

message 91: by Msmurphybylaw (new)

Msmurphybylaw | 4 comments I love so many. Many of them have already been named.
I'll find some links and post later.

TWSS.

Because the Hedgehog Hegemon said.

for teh l-e-e-e-e-n-gth.

for the honesty.

for teh puppies.

for the pix and spleen.

for saving me from stuff I shouldn't touch with a 10 metre barge pole.

for messing with my mind.

for mimicking Monty Python, .

for the d-e-e-e-p and meaningful Klein bottle view,

for saying that Ursula K Le Guin can peel her inside out and define her true name.

This list is not exhaustive. But you can only push anarchy so far.

Thanks for posting links, and thanks for listening to the Hedgehog! I promise, on WEDNESDAY or SOONER, I'm going to post links to some of my very favorites...and actually start contributing to this group again. Until then, I'll be doing finals and tearing clumps of hair out.

message 96: by mark (new)

mark monday (majestic-plural) | 77 comments good thread. i think my favorite review on GR is one that i just read about recently in this group, a review of Charlotte's Web by, i think, ceridwen. or caris? anyway, it was just so lovely and fragile, a moving and personal little piece.

i enjoy reviews in general from the GR friends that i talk to in groups, mainly because i enjoy their voices in the group and a review is like hearing them talk without any distractions or other folks chiming in and annoying me. it is getting to know them better.

as far as non-group-friend reviews go, i like the reviews that are either personalized, passionate & thoughtful about the title/author, or really well-informed...or, ideally, a combination of all three. i usually don't enjoy "funny", gimmicky, or self-consciously creative reviews. but that's not always true i guess. michael from arizona writes those kinds of reviews, i usually love them, and hey i friended him because of it. i guess there's always exceptions.

message 99: by mark (new)

mark monday (majestic-plural) | 77 comments just received a kindly course correction: the review of Charlotte's Web that i adore so is from "ceridwen". a wonderful review, already linked to by brian in this group.

my advanced years make it hard for me to tell all you young turks, top reviewers, best reviewers, and assorted other whippersnappers apart!

message 100: by Eh?Eh! (last edited Dec 06, 2010 12:41PM) (new)

Eh?Eh! | 48 comments I like reviews for being well-reasoned, heartfelt, blahblahbalh, but especially for being funny to my lowbrow sense of humor.

Michael went into left field, over the fence, with this one: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Alfonso tries a spellbook, mostly one specific spell (the pictures kill me every time): http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
