I love them! I would put them in the same kind of category as Artemis Fowl. Similar kind of humour... Young adult fantasy stuff with magic etc!

Yes I read it last week, I have to say I didn't rate it that much; the narrative was very jerky and I didn't warm to the characters at all. My daughter loved it though!

message 161: by Esther (new)

Esther (estame) I have just finished reading These Is My Words. Any book that can make me cry and laugh is a winner IMO, and this was an emotional rollercoaster! Absolutely loved loved loved it!

EdwardW | 1 comments I read as widely as possible; 'ancient' and modern! Recently completed Alpha to Omega by William Lynhope. Turned out to be a great read, as well as thought provoking. This one came to me by recommendation and I think it is available on all e-book platforms (Kindle, Nook, Kobo, iPad etc).
I can thoroughly recommend it, but a quick 'Google' of the title/author should allow you to read some chapters for yourself, before deciding. That's what I did.

Cintia I'm reading The Hakawati El contador de historias / The Hakawati (Spanish Edition) by Rabih Alameddine

I finally finished it last night after more than a week of reading it. It was pretty good with Lyra going through a lot of adventures and stuff but at the same time it felt like a bedtime story. I mean there wasn't that much suspense and excitement as I was hoping and at times I just got bored of reading it that I put it down for a day and read something else. I think I would've liked it more if I read it when I was a kid. I started reading the Subtle Knife, which is the sequel, and I'm already getting kind of getting bored of it so I'm thinking of just postpone reading it.

message 185: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle That's a shame, I watched the movie so kind of knew what it would be about. It did seem quite long for what happened in the film. I find the daemons interesting. I am a bit put off now if it is boring though...don't really like boring books.

Well there was interesting parts like the part of where Lyra found out that daemons were being cut off from their humans. I found that really touching of how daemons are another part of a human's soul and that humans really love their daemons but yeah like I said there was a lot of slow parts in the book. That's just my opinion though. You might like it since you liked the movie.

message 187: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle Yeah, I will give it a try some time. I want a daemon! :)

message 188: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (emonerddragon) | 23 comments I am absolutely bored with The Subtle Knife. I don't know if I'll ever want to finish it but right I'm putting it away and I'll just finish the other books I'm reading.

Kim (kubtterfly) What did you think of Room? I read it a couple months ago. LOVED the way it was told through Jack's eyes and the way she split the story into 'before' and 'after' Very intense.

ImScared3222 I was reading Tess of the D'Ubervilles, but even though it has an interesting story plot, I just can't get into it. I need something a little more fast paced, its an ADHD thing. So I picked up Rot and Ruin and pray that its any good.

I read Tess of the D'Ubervilles for school and it was slow! I haven't heard of Rot and Ruin!

message 200: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle I really loved Tess of the D'Ubervilles! Some parts are slow but the plot and language is spectacular in my opinion.
