Yep, I've seen it there too. One sees so many people's midsections and unbrassiered ta-ta's there that it's quite distracting. I try to only go there early on weekday mornings and only for very specific purchases. On weekends, it's truly alarming. The weirdos are on parade.

Me neither. That guy on one of those cable shows calls it, "The slobbification of America." You don't have to be rich to be properly dressed.

I'm with you 100%, Leslie. It is unbearable. I don't see that much of it anymore since I'm not on a college campus and I've only been in a Walmart once, but when I do see it it rankles.

For the record, I'd wear the t-shirt and track pants to a store like Walmart, but not out to eat or to a school function.

Anyway, as a kid, I was never allowed to wear sneakers except when playing sports that required them and never owned a pair of blue jeans till I went away to school and could make these decisions for myself.
So on some level, I actually sympathize with people wanting to dress casually, since I was forbidden to do so for such a long time. On the other hand, I inevitably absorbed some of my parents' standards about these things and have to admit that I sometimes wonder what people are thinking when they present themselves in public--particularly in a professional situation--looking like they just finished a game of touch football at the playground.
My mother made me wear a dress every day in elementary school, except for one day a year when I could wear pants, and the one day annually we had an outdoor exercise jamboree, when I could wear shorts.
I once worked at a place where virtually everyone dressed casually every day (except for the director, hey, someone needs to look polished) - which is fine, except about a third of the employees would come to work in track suits. OH DEAR GOD. There was also this one girl who would wear daisy dukes a couple times a week, but I think she was Russian so we overlooked it (except behind her back, where we made sartorial observations).

Of course that's okay, that's completely different!

But that was, like, before they had electric lights in the schools, right? Did you have your braids dipped in the ink well?

Don't be ridiculous, my pa would have taken a willow switch to anyone who did anything to my braids.

I wear jeans outside if I'm not at work 99.9 percent of the time, at least in winter.

If that's true, that is extremely unprofessional and someone should've said something to her. Like a principal. But maybe she was wearing something like Eileen Fisher, which can be very loose clothes with a pajama-like fit.
Gross.
My 13 year old daughter has a pair of jeggings. They look really cute on her.

Not only that, the neologism makes my soul writhe.

I love the look of skinny jeans on men like that. It accentuates the largeness of their shoes.
