10.3 Sláinte! To Your Health!
Your Best Body Now: Look and Feel Fabulous at Any Age the Eat-Clean Way by Tosca Reno
Not much new information for me in this book, but a good primer on clean eating and approachable strength training- quite repetitive and too much reliance on supplements for my taste
15.1 Time After Time
A. Historical fiction: The Wet Nurse's Tale by Erica Eisdorfer set 1830's+
B. Future: The Good Humor Man by Andrew Fox set in 2041
The Wet Nurse's Tale was enjoyable- engaging characters and an interesting point of view. The Good Humor Man is set in the near-future US after many foods have been banned to combat obesity- a real food police state- there were some intriguing concepts, but IMO an absurd Elvis plot arc took away from the story. Many Fahrenheit 451 touches
25.3 Christine US Reflections on 2010
A: Memory- We took a trip to Yellowstone NP this year. Some pictures from our trip
Faithful by Janet Fox
The cover of this book depicts a geyser basin in Yellowstone. I thought this book didn't have much substance, but it did have beautiful descriptions of Yellowstone and told some of the history of the park.
B. 2nd book by new author
Let the Dead Lie by Malla Nunn
I read Malla Nunn's debut A Beautiful Place to Die for the fall challenge. It was one of my favorite books of the year- a detective series set in 1953 South Africa. Let the Dead Lie deals with the repercussions of the events in the first Emmanuel Cooper book and the danger, power and corruption of Apartheid
30.4 Donna Jo's By the Numbers
A. Odd birth year- author G
After the Falls by Catherine Gildiner
B. telephone number = 9
Script and Scribble: The Rise and Fall of Handwriting by Kitty Burns Florey
I loved Gildiner's memoir Too Close to the Falls and After the Falls picks up where that book ends.
Script and Scribble was interesting (though the book's bad production drove me crazy)- especially the sections on current handwriting instruction in schools- d'Nealian didn't work for my kids, but Palmer didn't do much for me either- I hope to pick up a book mentioned by Florey Write Now The Complete Program for Better Handwriting, Revised Edition
