Thank you so much!!
HiIs there any way the current edition could be displayed for a book by Mary Filmer please, a very old unavailable version is displayed as default version and it is being picked up elsewhere to the detriment of the book. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... - this is the only currently available edition https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4... (isbn 9781681603827) and its cover should be the one shown on the account (along with the ebook versions with the same cover). The old editions by Alpha Wolf Publishing no longer exist. Author cannot work out how to ask you to do this so as her publisher I am hoping you can help us. Many thanks.
Please start new threads, rather than posting in random existing ones. As you were told previously, the author will need to contact Support directly.
rivka wrote: "Please start new threads, rather than posting in random existing ones. As you were told previously, the author will need to contact Support directly." Humble apologies, we did pass that onto the author but it seems she was not able to get the item resolved and asked us again instead: we are so busy we had forgotten about the previous communication.
The request does need to come directly from the author, and would need to go to Support, as librarians cannot change the default edition.
rivka wrote: "The request does need to come directly from the author, and would need to go to Support, as librarians cannot change the default edition."Ah! Thank you, i will email for the author then: many thanks, you are very kind x
Hi,I want to add a quote for Helen Thomson for her book 'Unthinkable'. On the 'Add a Quote' page, I found her name, but I cannot find her book.
In fact, all the books reflected under her name are unfamiliar...
Nazrul wrote: "I want to add a quote for Helen Thomson for her book 'Unthinkable'."
That author is Helen-2space-Thomson. Try entering her name with 2 spaces between first and last names.

Oh I see! Thanks!!
(strange, but never mind~)
Hello. Please add the book title "The Black Book" to this quote:https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/9586...
Hello dears,Yesterday I added a few quotes to the following book:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...
But the quotes do not appear on the book page.
I made sure to select the correct author and book while adding the quotes.
Here's the list of added quotes:
https://www.goodreads.com/work/quotes...
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Best,
Hanna
Hi, can you please link these quotes:https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/9752450
https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/9752462
To this book:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
Why this procedure should be this complicated anyway?
If a book has no quotes yet, how does one add some? Is it kosher for the author to do so, or only readers who have rated or reviewed the book, or everyone except the author?
@Karen, yes it is fine for authors to add some quotes. It is advisable to make sure they are actual quotable quotes - for example the house has a red door would be at risk of deletion even if the phrase appears in your book. Or a quote from, say, The Bible, even if that appears in your book.I'll also mention that tags are now limited to ten per book.
If you go to this book https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8... in the right hand side you will see quotes from Secret Admirer. Hit more quotes & that will bring up all the quotes for that book. On the right, one option is add quotes. I assume as the author you already know if the quote you want to add is in the system.
Rest should be self explanatory (I hope!) :)
I'm afraid I still have a couple of followup questions.--The book you use as an example already has quotes, and there's an option to have more. I don't see that option on my book (What Heals the Heart), which has no quotes yet. How does one add the first quote?
--What do you mean about a quote being "in the system"?

Did you try adding a quote? The quote won't attach to Secret Admirer. I don't know of any way to add a quote on the book page if there aren't already some quotes listed for the book. In this thread post #50 asked this & was answered #51 as a no.
Alternatively, at the top of this page, click on Community, then click on Quotes. Click on add a quote on the right.
The quotes you see in this area "are in the system." I just meant they were already added on Goodreads. :)
I must not be asking the right question. Someone has to add the first quote for a book, don't they? Who does it and how? Or do quotes get added somewhere independent of particular books, and only then turn up on the page for the book from which they come?Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ wrote: "Karen wrote: "I'm afraid I still have a couple of followup questions.

I see fields for quote, author, and tags. I don't see a place to say what book the quote is from. I also see an admonishment to add quotes only from "notable" people who've been written about in published secondary source material. This doesn't look like the place to add quotes from a book, intended to show up on that book's page.Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ wrote: "Karen wrote: "I must not be asking the right question. That is where you add quotes. If you are a published author you are considered notable. That remark is to stop non authors & people no one has ever heard of adding a quote.Under the quote there is a box for author. Put your name there. make sure it is exactly the same as your published name.
After you do that a list of your published books will hopefully appear. Select the correct book.
You can also add tags if you want - but you don't have to.
Then click save. (you may have to do a Captcha as well.)
Got it! The list of published books popping up was the key. Thanks for your patient assistance!Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ wrote: "That is where you add quotes. If you are a published author you are considered notable. That remark is to stop non authors & people no one has ever heard of adding a quote.

It turns out I have yet another question . . . . I added some quotes from the book, but I don't see them on the book's page. Will they appear there? They are all herehttps://www.goodreads.com/author/quot...
I'm guessing it is a caching issue, but I don't know for sure. If it is caching it could take up to 48 hours to show. (if anyone else knows for sure, please chime in!)
The quote that starts "Joshua took a gulp of his own brew." doesn't have a book showing though.
Whoops! Is there a way to edit it to add the book?Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ wrote: "They are all here

The quotes have shown up! :-) I have one more question: is there a way to reorder them? I believe they're in the order in which I added them, but the first line of the book (Joshua waking up) is around #3, as I didn't think of adding it first.Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ wrote: "Karen wrote: "Thanks! i think there is no such thing as "adding quote from a book". it's only quote from people. i don't know why goodreads doesn't add 'adding quote to book itself' feature.
Hi EmirhanAlthough you are not an author, adding quotes is the same for all GR members. Please look at my instructions in message #80. If you add an author to your quote, a list of the author's published books should then show.
Try this ans let us know how you get on if the book you are looking for still doesn't show.
Afternoon,I am trying to attribute a quote to the following Neil Gaiman book but it doesn't appear on his listen when I am adding the quote.
Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Unfortunately I already created a new quote before I knew that I should wait for the books dropdown to connect it there. Could anyone help me please and connect this quote https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/1110...
to this book https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
Thank you!

This doesn't seem to have been answered. Adrian, do you still want a quote added?

#50 Nora wrote: Is there a way I can add quotes through the book page itself?
Yes you can - indirectly. I found a way that works. The trick is to start from the book page and click on the author's name link to open the author's page. Scroll down on the author's page to find the author's (existing) quotes. The list title at the top is a link to the author's quotes page. On that page click the "Add a quote" link. This opens the Quotes > Add page with the author's name pre-filled, and with the correct number of space characters if other authors share the same name. And on this page the book pull-down list will contain only books from this author.
Since you got here by clicking the author's name link on the book page, the book you were just looking at should appear in the book list.
If the author has no existing quotes (you are adding the first quote for this author), you may need to edit the URL of the author's page to construct the URL of the author's (empty) quotes page. Just edit the word "show" into "quotes" in the author page URL and reload. I explained this with examples in a status update:
https://www.goodreads.com/user_status/show/461063842
Of course you don't have to enter a quote from the author's quotes page - that's just the way with the fewest things to go wrong that I've found so far. If you open the Quotes > Add page from somewhere else, you might have to use the space character kluge to disambiguate the author's name. When multiple authors share the same name, the correct number of space characters may be difficult to guess, in which case use my method to navigate to your author's quotes page and Goodreads will fill in the correct number of space characters for you.
While reading the book Stem Cells: A Very Short Introduction I noticed that someone had previously added a one word quote (its only content is the word "other"):https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/7321936-other
Even though the word "other" does appear in the book (multiple times), I suspect this was in error.
