Hello! I was wondering how do I add quotes to a book? For example, I wanted to add quotes from The Fool and the Flying Ship onto The Fool and the Flying Ship page and I was wondering if there is a option button on the book's page to add in the quote?

When you add a quote, start typing the author's name and allow the auto-fill to offer suggestions. Choose the correct one. The system will then prompt you with the option to choose one of their books from a drop-down.

You start by checking that the quote does not already exist. Not just that the author you want to enter doesn't have it on Goodreads, but that the quote is not on here. We spend a lot of time removing quotes that are attributed to people who didn't create them. Then you go here:

No. And considering that the page number will not agree between different editions, and the quite will be linked to all editions, there probably will never be.
rivka wrote: "No. And considering that the page number will not agree between different editions, and the quite will be linked to all editions, there probably will never be."I often see quotes that have the page number (or sometimes Kindle location) included in the body of text. Should they be edited to have this removed?
Please add this quote https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/2963...
to this book.

Hi!I had shared this quote from Craving U, but it disappeared:
"And you have to believe me when I tell you that no one could ever be as beautiful as you are at this very moment, because I could never want anyone more than I want you right now."
Help! What's the matter?
Thanks a lot!
The quote: https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/1656...Should be paired to Mort
If someone would be so kind.
I can't add a quote to this author https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
When I type his name, it shows me another author with the same name
https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
What to do?
#17: Try putting 2 spaces between the first & last names of the author. That should connect to the one you want. Goodreads uses extra spacing to differentiate authors with the same name.

I just add a quote : https://www.goodreads.com/author/quot... But how to link it to the book then?

I first add a quote under the wrong name, if you could please delete it (and the author name as well) : https://www.goodreads.com/author/quot...
Thanks a lot !
Got a question related to this topic.Say I want to add a quote for a book of poetry, but I want to maintain line breaks and indentation formatting. Can I use HTML in a quote to facilitate this?
I've added some quotes attributed to an author (Maupassant) but the book they're from doesn't appear on the 'book drop down list'. Is there any way to attach the quotes to a specific book in this case or to get the book I want to appear on the drop down list?
Rafael wrote: "#23 this book cannot show up with a other title? With a title in other language I mean."Thanks for replying Rafael. Well the book is 88 Short Stories which is a collection of stories. It's true that some of the stories have appeared in other collections or that the original French versions for a few may appear as individual books - so I could add the quote to those books but, for me, that's incorrect and a waste of time because the quotes I wish to add are a specific translation from a specific book and it would be nice if they appeared under the correct book. i.e. anyone looking at the book on GR would see the quotations from that book.
As it is I've just added them as quotes by Maupassant and not attached to any book. I'm guessing that the book doesn't appear on the list because it doesn't have any reviews - maybe when I finish and review the book it will appear on the drop-down.
If it was not released in any other language, I mean, with these content being exclusive for this edition this is a unique book. It must be in the list.I tried to add quotes too and I also cannot add a quote for this book.
I also don't know why this is happening.
I've a hunch that it's because the book has no reviews especially as the companion book, '88 More Stories' is on the list and has one review. I've nearly finished the book so I'll rate it and see if it appears on the list then. Thanks Rafael
Rafael wrote: "Tell us if you could add quotes to it as soon as you can."I rated the book yesterday and today I have been able to attach the quotations to the book—see here. So it looks like those book without a rating don't appear on the drop-down.
Thanks for taking time to look at this Rafael.
It's not that unrated books don't show up on the dropdown -- they usually do. It's that rating it probably forced the table that feeds the dropdown to reindex.

I'd like this quote: https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/7691...To be added to this book: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
Thanks!
I am adding quotes to this book https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... and while I am able to add them, they don't seem to appear on the book's page. Maybe I'm wrong but just to check.

A book page is not updated immediately (except for author/blurb/publisher etc changes) so you will need to wait a little while.
Hi all, could your please add this quote: https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/2391... to this book? https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... Much thanks!

Hi, I added a quote. But It did not appear on the book page. Why? Quote, link is here- my Quote link
I would like to add a quote to Kevin Hart (Comedian, Actor)'s up coming book I Can't Make This Up: Life Lessons However the auto select option is for a different Kevin Hart. How do I make sure the quote is connected to the correct author?
Shannon wrote: "I would like to add a quote to Kevin Hart (Comedian, Actor)'s up coming book I Can't Make This Up: Life Lessons However the auto select option is for a different Kevin Hart. How do ..."When selecting the author, you have to add his name as Kevin^^Hart, where ^ is one space, so two spaces between first and last name. This is the way GR separates authors with the same name. When adding the 2-space Kevin Hart, you should get a dropdown where the right book can be selected.
Arenda wrote: "Shannon wrote: "I would like to add a quote to Kevin Hart (Comedian, Actor)'s up coming book I Can't Make This Up: Life Lessons However the auto select option is for a different Kev..."I'll give that a try. Thank you!
Update: That worked perfectly. Thanks again
I have found a similar issue with Captain Corelli's Mandolin. For some reason, whenever I add a quote, it refers to a penguin reader version (a completely different book) by Mary Tomalin. I have tried the two different options under Louis de Bernières name (Captain Corelli's Mandolin and Corelli's Mandolin), but both refer to Tomalin's version. How can I make sure my quotes refer to the right book? To be clear, not this one: Captain Corelli’s Mandolin
But this one: Corelli's Mandolin
Nora wrote: "I have found a similar issue with Captain Corelli's Mandolin. What is strange, and I can't tell if this has always been the case, or if this was recently changed on purpose, or being a bug, is that editions like the Penguin Reader version where Louis de Bernieres is not listed as primary author (Mary Tomalin is listed first, as should be, because it is an adaptation) is showing in the drop-down list of books by Louis de Bernieres when entering a quote by him. (And there is a third edition with a similar name on the drop-down list, also with a different primary author: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...).
#47 hmm that sounds kind of weird Arenda ... I'd assume it might be a bug but as I wasn't in quotes for a while no idea if it's recently. Eventually worth reporting in the Feedback Group?
Still, every time I try adding a quote, Mary Tomalin's is the one my quote is linked to, and I have tried selecting both titles "Captain Corelli's Mandolin" and "Corelli's Mandolin" from the drop-down list (not the illustrated version).
