Lauren Johnson (lejohnson31288) I've never really read inside the 'romance' category- I mostly read General Fiction or 'Chick Lit'- any good romance authors you would recommend to start out with? :)

Michelle Gilmore If you're looking for historical romance, I'd recommend Julie Garwood,Teresa Medeiros, and Amanda Quick. Paranormal- the list is endless, but I really like Kresely Cole, Nalini Singh, Richelle Mead, and Karen Marie Moning, Gail Carriger etc.....

D.G. | 4477 comments The romance genre is very broad...subgenres go from historical, contemporary, romantic suspense, erotica, paranormal and some more so it would be easier to recommend you something if you would give us a guideline of what subgenre you would like to try and what's your level of comfort regarding love scenes (they can go from non explicit to all out scorching regardless of the subgenre.)

Two authors that you may like to try are:
Kristan Higgins - her books are a mix of romance and chick lit
Sarah Addison Allen - her books are a mix of contemporary fiction, fantasy and romance

Love scenes in books by these author tend to be the non explicit type. If you are willing to try something more explicit, then I can give you some other suggestions.

my new favorite is Rachel Gibson - she writes contemporary romance, that have some humor to them. I've been working my way through her ice hockey series and its enjoyable

Rachel Gibson
Susan Elizabeth Phillips
Victoria Dahl
Jennifer Crusie
Susan Mallery

Just a few to get you started on the contemporary path.

Joyce (eternity21) | 741 comments Since you like Chick Lit, if you want to get into some paranormal books check out MaryJanice Davidson

Lauren Johnson (lejohnson31288) Thanks so much you guys!! Yeah, I'll basically try anything and I'm not squimish or creeped out by sex scenes. I'll definitely check these authors out! :)

Tania | 644 comments I'd suggest:

Jennifer Crusie for a laugh.

Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward for paranormal.

Lauren Dane if you want to heat things up a bit (try the Brown siblings or the Chase brothers to start with)

Stephanie Laurens for historical - start with the Cynsters.

I'm fairly new to GR so I'm only just starting to get my lists up but feel free to have a look through my read books if you like and ask questions.

What I'd really suggest is that you join up challenges on this group. This is what I did to widen my reading choices. The pick it for you challenge is really great for finding authors that you've never experienced before. Or I also do the monthly reading challenges as well. See what other people have suggested and make up a list of authors/books you've never read before. I've found some new favourites that way.

Gigi | 1149 comments For historical books, I love LaVyrle Spencer, Judith McNaught and Jude Deveraux.

If you're looking for a different kind of Historical, try The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie.

If you find that you're in the mood for romantic suspense, try Linda Howard.

Oh and another contemporary author that I've heard a lot of great things about is Julie James.
