*Mrs. Brightside* Lol, yeah..I was expecting more from that.

Totally agree, Bella was way too winny in the first three. I always wondered why Edward didn't feel like he was babbysitting a four year old. Don't get me wrong I LOVE the series! Great Love Story! I just wish Bella was a little more mature, but then again she is still a teen.

True Love Forever (trueloveforever) | 102 comments I got the opposite impression. The author and Edward made her seem mature for her age, an old soul. Edward even asks her "how old are you?" in a questioning way. She took care of her mother and then her father. The movies don't really show this at all. She is a clutz though and not much of kichbutt heroine. But by the third book she starts to mature in THAT way.

Don't get me wrong, I would have been so sad if she had killed off any character but I think it would have been a much better story if Bella had died. It would have been a huge risk but I think it would have opened up Renesmee's story more.

Carri (carrifedor) I find it really difficult to compare these books. I love both of these series, they are definilty my favorites, but they really are nothing alike. I fell in love with Twilight from the start. I really think it was the dialoge for me, I love reading any converstion the Edward and Bella had together. BD really was my least favorite, it felt like a totally differant book than the rest of the series.
On the other hand, Vampire Academy (the first one) I was just kinda like "that was ok", but by the time I go to Shadow Kissed - it was a complete obsession. It is more action based then the love story that is Twilight.

Kylie | 62 comments My vote is for Vampire Academy. It's likely my favorite series regardless that it is YA.

Twilight is good as well, but not in the same league as Vampire Academy.

Mrs.Vishous-Kattalakis-Belikov :::Para Itch Reviews::: (vanesmate) I havent read the Vampire Academy is it worth reading? I see it all the time and never get it!

message 58: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 429 comments It is definitely worth reading! The final book comes out in about 3 weeks!

message 59: by Carri (new)

Carri (carrifedor) So worth reading. I honestly thought that the first one was ok, didn't seem to grab me the way it did other people, but this series gets better and better as it goes. By the 3rd one, I was in a frenzy trying to get my hands on the rest!

Mrs.Vishous-Kattalakis-Belikov :::Para Itch Reviews::: (vanesmate) cool...thanks

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) What Carri said. Book 1 was just okay, but every book after the first one was excellent.

True Love Forever (trueloveforever) | 102 comments I like dhte first one. LOL I thought they were all great. It is setting up the storyline, but I loved it.

message 63: by Denise (new)

Denise (akaurora) | 59 comments They would definitely be my pick over HoK series I read both and VA beats it hands down. Rose is a stubborn kick ass fighter. I liked them all but thought Rose got off track a few books in with her poor decision making. Really my only criticism....Doesn't really seem YA though.

True Love Forever (trueloveforever) | 102 comments I liked VA much better than HofN too.
I stopped reading HofN by the 6th book.
VA feels more mature and the writing is just so good. And the story line doen't go oof on tangents too much. like HofN.

Mrs.Vishous-Kattalakis-Belikov :::Para Itch Reviews::: (vanesmate) I just purchased the first book in the VA series so we will see!!

message 66: by Win (new)

Win | 3 comments vampire academy absolutely...cause i luv ozera so much...n the story is very good..

*Mrs. Brightside* I was hooked from the beginning of VA(:

message 68: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Brown (nickichicki) I loved the Twilight series when I first read it and it still holds a special place in my heart (and on my keeper shelf), but I feel like Vampire Academy is in a league of it's own. Honestly so far I've loved every series Richelle Mead has written. If I had read VA before Twilight I'm not sure I would of been so into Twilight as I was in the beginning.

Nivetha | 2 comments i like twilight very much...

Silver Thistle (silverthistle) Just a wee update....

Posted earlier in the thread to ask if VA got better after book one as I thought it was a bit 'meh'.

Book 2 was better but still just 'ok' and 'good'.

Book 3 though, which I only have a few pages left to read, is 'sooo good'! I love that I have finally reached the hook and can't wait to see what happens next.

Now I know what everyone is raving about and I get it. :D

Thanks for the advice to stick with VA ladies, it was worth the wait to get here.

AlbertaJenn Ugh. I really dislike these "Vs." discussions, because everything is subjective. There is no formula to grade A over B. Books are all about personal opinion.

I have read, and loved, Twilight. VA is on my TBR list, and I will be reading them as soon as I clear off some of the books on my bookshelf, hopefully sometime in 2011.

message 72: by Carri (new)

Carri (carrifedor) Sonya, I felt exactly the same way! I thought the 1st one was ok, but not real special. 2nd one was better, 3rd book is one of my all time favorites! I love this series!

I felt Twilight started off stronger, but was not crazy about the last book. Don't get me wrong, Also one of my favorite series!

Carri, Snap! Twilight gripped me from the first chapter and I barely stopped reading 1, 2 & 3 to even sleep. Then I got to book 4 and thought it was a bit lacking somehow, compared to the others. It was ok but it didn't even feel like it was written by the same person as the others.

However, it's still one of my all time faves as series go!

message 74: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (shinhbang) | 152 comments I absolutely hate the Vampire Academy vs. Twilight. Twilight is not comparable to VA ever. VA surpasses Twilight by too much of a great range.

♥ Ashleigh ♥ Contrary to popular belief I'm not actually mad! (cheshire_red) omg vampire academy total rules i cant believe there not continuing it, there saying something about a spin off series but i think vampire academy is so good cause rose is the main character and she is so kick a**, there should be more books with main female characters in them like her!

Jen ~The dreamer~ | 649 comments I thought VA was so much better than Twilight. I liked Twilight, but really wish VA would have been made in to a film and recieved all the hype instead of Twilight. I think VA was written better and the characters were more interesting. I'm not a fan of Bella, I thought she was weak, needy, insecure and I often wished her to disappear. Rose is the complete opposite and the type of female I want to read about.

message 77: by Sabina (new)

Sabina Kines | 14 comments Ok. If it wasn't for Twilight I wouldn't be reading any paranormal romance books. Vampire Academy is my favorite though but Twilight still has a special place in my heart. And I know that this wasn't part of the question about 'Vampire Academy or House of Night' I must say that at the beginning I liked House of Night more but it's been going downhill, I don't like it as much, so I guess that means that Vampire Academy is my favorite.:)

True Love Forever (trueloveforever) | 102 comments I feel the same way I started buying the books and I just felt like it turnd into this non-going teenage soap opera. I got tired of it. VA is written so much better than H of N.

♥ Ashleigh ♥ Contrary to popular belief I'm not actually mad! (cheshire_red) twilight got kinda boring after the like second movie which a bit of a shame, i really do think they should make vampire academy a movie but they would have to be really careful and make sure it doesn't get change to much from the book cause that would totally destroy it, its so well written its like the characters jump off the page, i also hope they wouldn't destroy the characters, if they do end up making it into a movie rose totally shouldn't get played by some model or anything like that.

Silver Thistle (silverthistle) Ashleigh wrote: "twilight got kinda boring after the like second movie ..."

But what did you think about the books? It's the books that are being compared...

♥ Ashleigh ♥ Contrary to popular belief I'm not actually mad! (cheshire_red) well the books are way better then the movies thats for sure but i still think VA is better maybe i just like the characters more in VA

Emma | 20 comments i havent read VA but ive read loads of the other vampire series and i still think i prefer twilight as its what made me fall in love reading paranormal storys and i pretty much devoured the books waking up at like half 4 in the morning jus so i could read it be4 school. sad i no but i got addicted :D

True Love Forever (trueloveforever) | 102 comments I have read a lot of YA vampire stuff and I like/love twilight. It is a great first love/true love/unconditional love story, but I think VA is equal or better. The main character is so awesome! And the writing is smart and on the edge of your seat. Lots of action, intensity/chemistry and vampires.

message 84: by Awo (new)

Awo (awosbooks) | 16 comments Vampire Academy ofcoursee! After the initial high of Twilight, I came to despise the series. Vampire Academy has ass kicking Rose whom I love (a relief to feminists everywhere compared to Bella) and ofcoure Dimitri

message 85: by Bobbie (new)

Bobbie | 1 comments I never picked up a book untill I read Twilight. I know, crazy, right! I am a lover of Twilight for getting me on the waggon. But...I have to say, VA gets my vote. Now...Get the fever(KMM) Happy reading ;)

Mrs.Vishous-Kattalakis-Belikov :::Para Itch Reviews::: (vanesmate) I agree! I love Twilight...Its great!! I just finished VA and it doesn't even compare!! VA is way better!!

message 87: by Vanessa (last edited Jan 29, 2011 03:26PM) (new)

Vanessa Guida (ness422) | 3 comments The VA series is my favorite. I LOVED the Twilight series while I was reading them, and it is what initially got me into this genre. I will forever be greatful to Twilight, but after reading other teen vampire series, I think it's very immature and unrealistic (LOL...for a paranormal teen romance). Like others have mentioned....it was too happy and cheesy for me. But still important in my life.

VA is awesome! I loved the heartbreak of Adrian at the end...only because it was real. I would have been pissed if he was just all, "Well, I know you two love each other, and I don't want to get in the way of that, so I'm happy for you." I feel that if this scenario was in the Twilight series, that's probably what would have happened.

♥ Ashleigh ♥ Contrary to popular belief I'm not actually mad! (cheshire_red) VA seems to be most people's fave, its so well written and people of different ages really enjoyed it.

it has to be the best series i have ever read
