The 'Heir' series is one of my favorite! If you like it, also try the Mortal Instrument series...

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Sheesh where do you live? My Goodwill never has anything worth buying. But then again, I am protesting the move from 3 for a $1 to a percentage off the publishers price.

At any rate, YAY for Beat the Reaper!

message 1106: by Tory (new)

Tory Hendershot (nghtstlkr64) | 13 comments It used to be $1 for hardcover $.50 for softcover but they now have four huge boxes full of books and several bookshelves that they're trying to sell so they have a better price. I was lucky this time, usually I don't find anything. And this trip I had a bit more time to wade through the boxes.

message 1107: by Peep (Pop! Pop!) (new)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) That's still a good price though!

message 1108: by Julie (new)

Julie I just picked up Born at Midnight (Shadow Falls, #1) by C.C. Hunter . I don't know why I keep buying books...I'm swamped with library books and never get a chance to read the ones I own, oh well :)

message 1111: by Gina (last edited May 31, 2011 04:23PM) (new)

Gina Rose (ginarosereads) I begrudgingly went to Goodwill with my mom and little sister today (I've been 3 times in the past week! I need a break from shopping) and spent the trip combing through books while they clothes-shopped.

I ended up getting
The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold Running with Scissors by Augusten Burroughs Better Than Running at Night by Hillary Frank He's Just Not That Into You (The Newly Expanded Edition) The No-Excuses Truth to Understanding Guys by Greg Behrendt
all for only $6! (Two were hardcovers, two were paperbacks, but all of them were in like-new condition)

I'm excited to start them after I finish Jellicoe Road, which is due back at the library next week.

message 1112: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I get books at Goodwill too. I also buy at least one each time I go to Plato's Closet - great place to get used YA books!

I always browse the racks at the Plato's near me and every time it seems like the only books available are Twilight and Gossip Girl :/

That being said, I hardly ever strike gold at Goodwill but today seemed to be my lucky day! I suppose it's just the luck of the draw.

My Goodwill usually only has nonfiction and the Left Behind books (which I don't read). I get most of my books at my friends of the library bookstore, which is a nice place but it's only open until 4.

message 1120: by Jessica (last edited Jun 01, 2011 08:39PM) (new)

Jessica Today was a big book day.

I got The Mislaid Magician or Ten Years After (Cecelia and Kate, #3) by Patricia C. Wrede The False Princess by Eilis O'Neal and Feeling Sorry for Celia (Ashbury/Brookfield, #1) by Jaclyn Moriarty in the mail from Amazon.

I bought Abandon (Abandon Trilogy #1) by Meg Cabot and Nightspell (Mistwood, #2) by Leah Cypess from the bookstore, while I was there for YA for Adults book club.
I also got the ARCs for This Dark Endeavor The Apprenticeship of Victor Frankenstein by Kenneth Oppel and Back When You Were Easier to Love by Emily Wing Smith while I was at the bookstore.

Now I just have to decide what to read first.

message 1121: by Jen (new)

Jen (jennifer_ashmy) | 242 comments I just bought The Red Pyramid (Kane Chronicles, #1) by Rick Riordan but It wasn't for me. I bought it for my brother because I'm trying to get him into YA, lol :) and I thought Rick Riordan would be a good starting place.

But I'm pretty sure that after he's done I will borrow it to read it, hehe :)

you must have an awesome library. Mine barely has recent books :(

so I resort to buying my own books, which I think worsens my book buying addiction, lol.

I belong to a pretty big library system, Tulsa county Oklahoma. They have a large selection of books. The only problem is the waiting. There are always a huge number of holds on new releases.

Same here. We have new releases but we have to wait for them, sometimes I'm on hold for weeks.

Same here. I hate it when I'm 869th in line. :)

message 1129: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jsills3) | 159 comments It's frustrating. Especially when people keep books way past their due date. Come on people! You'd think that someone who was 15 th on the hold list would have some courtesy for number 16, seeing how long they had to wait themselves.

Oh I see. The library system in my area is not too big. I have tried putting myself on wait lists too for books but they either don't have the book in the system or it takes way too long to get to my library. I'm really impatient I have to admit so I get frustrated and just desist of it all, lol.

message 1131: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jsills3) | 159 comments That would be frustrating. A lot of times I give up and buy the darn book.

Heidi Wendy F wrote: "Everyone is talking about Plato's Closet for good books. I'm going to have to go out there and see what I can find."

I've had good luck but someone else said they didn't - I guess it depends on each store since people bring their stuff there to sell. Just like Goodwill. My Goodwill has a poor selection of books but the one we went to on vacation in WI had a great selection.
