Sorry all for not being active recently, think it's about time we decide on a book to read and discuss for October!
Does anyone have any suggestions for books to read? Shorter books would probably be better as it's nearing the end of September now, so shall we say books with around 150-200 pages? And also ones which are easy to get hold of in libraries etc

ModernAlexandrian The Wasp Factory by Iain M. Banks is a gem ^.^
oh! or The Prince of Mist by Carlos Ruiz Zafón
Nice and short they are too ;)

ModernAlexandrian ooh, I've been wanting to read that!!

How about The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides? It's been on my TBR list for ages.

Em (emmap) | 2707 comments I read that one a few years back, not sure I can remember enough to join in though.... actually, bits are coming back to me now I think of it!

No thin books that I'm planning to read this month but I recently read A Single Man by Christopher Isherwood, I think it would be a good one to discuss - there's a film too (always a bonus with my in person book group!!) I'd like to nominate that one please.

If we did A Single Man, I could finally get my I for the A-Z challenge.... (and I was planning on reading a Christopher Isherwood anyway....) But of course I still really want to read The Virgin Suicides.

I found out I'm number10 waiting for a copy of One Day at the library - despite the fact I've been waiting for over a month (they only have four copies). Luckily one of my friends has just finished it, so hopefully I will catch up soon.....

Good suggestions. I read The Wasp Factory while I was a student and working part-time in a theatre box office (good job for reading opportunities...) It's been, ahem, a while - happy to read it again. Also, I like the idea of ready something else by Carlos Ruiz Zafón.

So many good books, so little time...

Liz, read the Isherwood anyway - it's quick (get you nearer to 50) and I'd love to know what you think of it!

Shall we try and get a poll together? Let's say any more suggestions for the October read to be posted by Wednesday. Then we'll poll to decide the group's choice....

So far the following have been suggested:
The Wasp Factory by Ian Banks
The Prince of Mist by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
The Giver by Lois Lowry
The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides
A Single Man by Christopher Isherwood

The Wasp Factory by Iain M. Banks The Prince of Mist by Carlos Ruiz Zafón The Giver (The Giver, #1) by Lois Lowry The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides A Single Man by Christopher Isherwood
