October - Pick It For Me Challenge!

1. Raised by Wolves - Jennifer Lynn Barnes – It’s in your TBR list and I just read it for one of September’s challenges. It’s got mystery, werewolves, head..."
I will check out Some Girls Bite-- I totally agree with spreading the love!

Thanks so much for awesome recommendations!

Jim, I love the new rule....thank you for doing a great job in organizing this!!!

Here are my picks for you. I hope you like them.
A: 5 Star Read: Date Me, Baby, One More Time

B: From Your TBR List: Storm Front

C: New For You: Don of the Dead

D: Want To Read But Haven't Yet: A Quick Bite

E: Suprise Pleasure: Message in a Bottle

F: Second Choice:The Face of Deception

This is my first pick-it-for-me challenge but it was fun going through your lists and seeing what you liked and comparing them to what I liked. I think my top pick is Message in a Bottle

btw Jim, thanks for the picks, I'm looking forward to read at least 2 or 3 of the books (depends on time that I'll have for that), I heard that Nora Roberts' Secret Circle Trilogy was very interesting, a friend of mine was recommended it to me and I'll think to start with this :)

Hello, Harper! (Did you know we share the same birthday as Vivien Leigh?)
I am happy to make recommendations for you this mon..."
Hi, Sandy! I did know about Vivien Leigh. Saw it on one of those "Who do you share your birthday with?" lists. :)
Thanks for all of your recs! I'm up for a buddy read, so I think I'll read "Covet" with you. I'd say "Frostbite" is my second choice in case I can't read "Covet."

I hope you find something you like from these picks!
A. 5 Star Read: Hotter After Midnight by Cynthia Eden. I just finished this book today, and I really enjoyed it! I see you like paranormal romance, and this one has a lot of those aspects along with policework and trying to find a serial killer. The hero, Colin, is super hot!
B. From your TBR: Charming the Prince by Teresa Medeiros. This is probably my most favorite Teresa Medeiros book. It reminds me of The Sound of Music with all the children and the soldier Dad. I love the hero and adore the heroine. Plus, it's really fun and funny!
C. New to You: Kiss of Midnight by Lara Adrian. I noticed that you love the BDB books by JR Ward. I am not personally a fan (shocking I know!), but I feel the Midnight Breed books are ones that you will enjoy. They also feature hot vampire warriors, but I find the writing style more enjoyable and the love stories more my speed than JR Ward's.
D. Want To Read It But Haven't: Kitty and the Midnight Hour by Carrie Vaughn. I've heard lots of great things about this series, but just haven't gotten to it yet.
E. Surprise Pleasure: Lord of the Fading Lands by C.L. Wilson. I had really never read a straight out fantasy novel before this one, but I found it recommended on the boards at Amazon. I decided to give it a go, and I've been fairly obsessed with it ever since. I'm almost finished with the third book now, and can't wait for the next two. It's truly epic, with a fantastic love story and an entirely different world that will blow your mind.
F. Second Choice: Moon Called by Patricia Briggs. I almost went with this one for the New to You category, but when I saw your love for vamps I knew I had to pick Lara Adrian. The Mercedes Thompson series by Patricia Briggs is one of my personal favorites. She is an amazing author, and each one of these gets better than the last. It has vamps, shifters, fey, trolls, and pretty much anything else you can think of. Mercy herself is a coyote shifter, and she's a strong kick-butt heroine who also just happens to be a car mechanic! A really fun series!
The one I hope you pick: Moon Called because it's one of my faves or Kiss of Midnight because I think you'll really like it!

For a second I thought...Drq gave recs to you too? Then I realized you confused me with Drq, LOL! ;) Anyways, when you read them, let me see how you liked them!

I'm happy to hear that!! I hope you'll enjoy the book! :)
Happy reading!

OMG, I'm so very sorry......I was looking at one of her posts when I was making mine!!! I am editing it now!! LOL
I am at work and probably shouldn't be on GR at the same time...haha! I will let you know how I like them and thanks again! :)

1. Most Current 5* - this one was easy - it's the book I just finished yesterday: The Toll-Gate by Georgette Heyer
2. Book on your TBR that I've read & enjoyed - I was beginning to despair! Page after page of books I haven't read!! Then I found Sea Swept by Nora Roberts - this is the first book in the Chesapeake Bay series and they're all great, so read this one already!
3. Totally new to you: The Housekeeper and the Professor by Yoko Ogawa. This is both charming and sad - he's a brilliant math professor who has only 80 minutes of short-term memory because of a head injury; she's his housekeeper & cares for him during the day. How do you relate to someone who doesn't remember you? Through your 10-year-old son, and math, & lots of perseverance & ingenuity.
4. Book I want to read: My first thought here was The Sugar Queen but you've already read it, so I went with Kitty and the Midnight Hour by Carrie Vaughn
5. Surprise Pleasure: Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison - I liked this a whole lot more than I thought I would, and bought the next in the series.
6. Second Choice: Also on your TBR is The Courtship by Catherine Coulter. I didn't choose this for the 2nd category because it's #5 in her Brides series, but I liked this one the best of the series (well, tied for best!) Helen Mayberry and Heatherington are both very likeable characters, and this was a charming & funny read.
***** Strongest recommendation is Sea Swept

whoops, I forgot to mark off Kitty and the Midnight Hour apparently because I've read it, but I have the second one (Kitty Goes to Washington) sitting next to me right now

A.Blue Plate Special—I only read this a few days back (maybe a week now) and found it amazing. So, you may want to give it a try. I say that the description doesn't give it justice! I am too obsessed lol.
B.Sophie's World Philosophy. Makes you think, but in a good way. This book takes time. A great conversation starter.
C.Remember Me? Funny. I actually got recommended this through here(Gosh, I need to work on my grammar). If you want something light then this is it.
D. Hidden Wives Who doesn't love learning about religious culture standings?
E. The Girl Who Played with Fire I never read this stuff. Mysteries I think(thought are) not for me. You know the first book was good. This one is even better!! You should really consider finishing what you began.=D
F. Bitten I had no idea what to pick for this category, so I went down the list. I had a sad book, a thinking book, romance, marriage (sorta), thriller/mystery, and I needed to add something. What to add? Okay so Bitten is part romance too,(like 2 others). I wanted something other than to much young-adult, and this is a fantasy! Well…paranormal.
Hope you find something to enjoy! If not, I can think up something else. Happy reading!

Sallie wrote: "This is for BJ Rose...I hope you find something that will strike your fancy - so here are your recs ..."
5 STAR READ: The Weight of Silence by Heather Gudenkauf...this was an awesome read - it's one of those books that sucks you & leaves you breathless after you finish reading.
I just requested this from the library - hope it comes in time!
YOUR TBR: The Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen...I really enjoyed this book-it had suspense, the air of mystery & a little romance thrown in for good measure.
This is sitting on my bookshelf just waiting for October 1st! Will definitely read this
NEW FOR YOU: Summer At Willow Lake by Susan Wiggs...this book is by one of my fav authors, it is a nice romance with an of air of mystery thrown into this one as well.
I haven't read any Susan Wiggs books yet - added to my list but probably not this month.
I WANT TO READ BUT HAVENT: The Search by Nora Roberts...usually her books get a lot of thread time but this one has been rather quiet but I love Nora so I will read eventually.
I'm also a lover of most things Nora, but have not read this one either. May try to get to it this month.
OUTSIDE NORMAL READ: Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost...
OTHER BOOK YOU SHOULD READ: Storm Front by Jim Butcher...
Both of these series have been recommended to me by friends, and now your added rec tells me I should get started on them, but probably not this month.

A. Soulless by Gail Carriger
I read this last month in September's PIFM Challenge. I really enjoyed it and was different from anything I h..."
Thank you Becky! I'll start off with two. (See if I read them both.) Host and My Sweet Audrina.

A: Miss Wonderful by Loretta Chase
I actually read the third one in this series and gave it 5 Stars, but this is a good start to the Carsington series and they just get better as they go on!

B: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
I loved this book, it was brilliant I am not normally a fan of YA but this is a great book!

C: On the Edge by Ilona Andrews
I can see you have PNR on your shelves, and I hope you enjoy this one : )

D: Awaken Me Darkly by Gena Showalter
This one was really hard! All the ones I wanted to read you had already read lol, so I picked this. I really like her LOTU series and I keep meaning to start this series as well!

E: Company of Liars by Kate Maitland
This is a really interetsing and slightly spooky book, that I got on the real superficial reason that I liked the cover! But it turned out it was really good, and a break from the romance books I usually read

F: Secrets of a Summer Night by Lisa Kleypas
I added this one just because I think this series-The Wallflowers- is great and I can see you have it on you TBR shelf

Okay my top pick is *drum roll* ...The Hunger Games Just because it is one of the best books I have read this year, and I feel I have to spread the love : )

83%

A. My latest 5 star read: Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. I couldn't put this book down. And if you choose this one, you should get the graphic novel afterwards which tells th..."
Thanks Gigi! I'll check them out in more detail in a sec! I think I have a friend's copy of Knight at home somewhere... oops...

Apologies to you - and Gigi! - but I haven't updated my shelves since January, and I've read some great books since then!
Check back in 24 hours...

Sallie wrote: "This is for BJ Rose...I hope you..."
I am so glad you are going to read The Weight of Silence...there were parts in this book that just made you want to cry but I was "big girl" & held the tears LOL...I do hope you enjoy. The Sugar Queen is great too but way different from the other book - I hope you enjoy them both & please let me know how you liked them

A. The Bone Garden by Tess Gerritsen. This is the latest 5-star book I have. Not my usual genre, but it's a well-crafted tale. If you can get it in audiobook version, I highly recommend it.
B. Halfway to the Grave by Jeanine Frost
I think its about time you meet the scrumptious Bones.
C. Cry No More by Linda Howard
I noticed you like some contemporary romance, so I think you should check this one out. Despite its title, keep some tissues around. : )
D. Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh
I'm a big fan of her PNR Psy/Changeling series, so I really want to check our her Urban Fantasy one. If you haven't tried this author, I highly recommend her.
E. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
I always recommend this when I have a chance. Not my usual romance book, but I love it just the same.
F. Gabriel's Ghost by Linnea Sinclair
Just thought I'll throw something from a different genre, Sci-fi Romance. Another keeper in my book.
Top pick? Hmm...pretty hard, since I've enjoyed all of them...but for you, I'll go for Halfway to the Grave.
Happy reading!

A: Miss Wonderful by Loretta Chase

Thanks for the great recommendations.
I'm currently number 17 out of 30 holds in the library for The Hunger Games, so even though it's my top choice I might not get it in time.
If I don't I will probably pick up either the Lisa Kleypas book or the Loretta Chase one.

LOL, Megan, no worries. :)

I have read Slave to Sensation already (I loved it- 4 stars!), so I will be shooting for Pleasure Unbound. I've had it for awhile, so it's about time!

Thank you all for the kind words. While some have matched up well, we'll see the final numbers when all is said and done.

a.The last book I rated 5 stars was What Happens in London. I suspect given the amount of Julia Quinn you have that you have probably read this. If you have then the next one would be Daniel Silva's The Defector.
b. A book on your TBR I've read: Lisa Kleypas Love in the Afternoon
c. You have a mix of classics, YA and romance. You liked To Kill A Mockingbird. Try The Help. I couldn't put it down.
d. A book from your TBR list that I want to read:
Extremely Loud and Incredibly CloseMy team teacher says students love this-we didn't get to it last year, hoping to this year.
e. A surprise pleasure outside my normal realm. I don't read a lot of memoir/biography although I have been reading more since reading thisHere If You Need Me: A True Story
f. Final pick--something different in both our TBR piles Beyond Heaving Bosoms: The Smart Bitches' Guide to Romance Novels
I guess my top pick would be The Help.

Thanks

Pam, thanks so much for all the great recs! I really don't know which to choose for this month- all great! I have Love In The Afternoon and Beyond Heaving Bosoms already in my possesion so I will probably go with one of those first. I really want to read Extremely Loud and I haven't read What Happens In London yet so those will be next. I will add all the others to my tbr pile- thanks again!
@Jim- Great job and it was a lot of fun- thanks for running it this month!

A. My Sister's Keeper - I usually don't read these types of books, however I loved this one. I had watched the movie and decided I liked it so much that I wanted to see how the book compared. It's awesome whether you've seen the movie or not.
B. The Hunger Games - I loved this book. It has everything in it that you could ever want and I don't think I will ever stop recommending it on these challenges. Action, adventure, grit, romance, suspense, drama, you name it, it's in here.
C. Tribute - I didn't see any Nora Roberts in your read shelf, so I thought I would tell you about this one. It is a stand alone (she usually does series). This is a romance suspense type novel, it's actually one of the author's best in my opinion. Great story
D. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - I have been wanting to read this one, but haven't had the time yet. I've heard it's amazing.
E. The Time Traveler's Wife - Like i said before, these kinds of books are not my kind of thing, but once again, I enjoyed this movie very much and was curious about the book. The book is great, however I will admit the reading can get a little slow due to over detailing.
F. A Great and Terrible Beauty - This one didn't fit any of the other categories, however i noticed you have read quite a few period romances such as Jane Austen''s books. This is a YA novel and one set in that same era of England with a paranormal twist. I got sucked into this one pretty quick.
The book I hope you pick I guess is A Great and Terrible Beauty just because I think it fits pretty well with the books I've seen on your shelves and I love the whole series very much.
Can't wait to hear your pick!
<3 Jess

Sorry for the delay, but here you go. Hope you find something you like.
A. 5 Star Book: Bound to Please by Lilli Feisty – I read this all in one sitting, staying up late into the night to finish it. Then I read it again about two months later. Since it’s also on your TBR, I’d have to say this is the book I would recommend the highest to you this month…but you won’t find it in the library, so…
B. TBR pick: Stranger by Megan Hart – I’ve read a number of Megan Hart’s and this is BY FAR my favorite – great quirky characters and one part that is so laugh out loud funny, that even when I re-read it and knew it was coming, I couldn’t stop laughing so hard, my family looked at me funny.
C. New to You: Forbidden Heat by Opal Carew – I see that you have a couple books by Opal Carew on your TBR, but not this one. Secret Ties is good, but not as good as Bound to Please. And considering our mutual interest, I think you should start with Forbidden Heat. Another one I’ve read twice this year and well worth it both times.
D. Book I haven't gotten to yet: Waterbound by Christine Feehan (apparently so new, I can't link to it, but my library has it and I bought it in paperback...so not too new)
Okay, so you might be able to find this at the library, but it’s not the strongest recommendation. I’ve just read so many books recently that there aren’t many that I really want to read that I haven’t gotten to yet. This is the next installment of the Drake Sisters, which I only read all 7 of because my coworkers were all reading them and that’s what we were talking about around the water cooler. The last three Drake books were pretty good though and I’m curious about the next hero.
E. Surprise pleasure: Salem Falls by Jodi Picoult
This was the first Jodi Picoult book I ever read and it’s a 5-star book for me. Not a romance, but incredibly, horrifically compelling. A real life horror story that is not gory or violent, involves nothing supernatural, but something truly evil.
F. Extra Pick: Nightwalker by Jocelynn Drake
Ok, so this is on your first-in-series-to-read TBR and actually, I recommend it more because this series is worth the read if only to get to the 4th book, Pray for Dawn, which awesome! (not as awesome if you don’t wade through the first three which are all good, solid reads o their own – straight urban fantasy, with the smallest touch of romance)
Okay, so recs 1-3 are not coming from the library, but 4-6 should at least be AT the library. So knowing that your book budget is limited, I’d still have to go with Bound to Please as my highest rec or Nightwalker if it has to be a library book.
Hope you find something you’ll love…or at least that’s good enough to try. If not, let me know and I’ll try again.
-Kerste

A: Secrets by Jude Deveraux-- I gave this 5 stars. I see you liked Deveraux's Montgomery saga so you're use to her random twists and turns and mystery in her books. Love it ^.^
B: No Choice But Seduction by Johanna Lindsey If you liked Tender Rebel(i see you rated that 4 stars) then you'll find this story to be amusing because Tony plays an important role in it.
C: Don't Look Down by Jennifer Crusie -- The last book i've actually read. Ive been doing a lot of Audio booking this past month. A week ago I read this book and enjoyed it. I really like Jennifer Cruise. She's more stereotypical "chick lit" with her amusing every day scenario and witty remarks.
D: A Gentle Rain by Deborah Smith --I was recommended it last month and i really want to read it but I cant find it in my library system = (
E: The Paid Companion by Amanda Quick -- I only like to read Historical romance novels by certain people and Amanda Quick isn't one of those people. I listened to this audio book about 3 weeks ago and I was surprised that I actually liked it. Im wondering if it had to do with the fact that I was being read to and didn't have to read it. It was still an ok story and like i said, i was actually surprised I liked it.
F:]The Virgin Groom (Hawk's Way, #10) by Joan Johnston -- I've read two other Hawk's Way books and liked it. This was on your TBR list and it caught my eye ^.^

BTW, thank you very much for the extra rec's you sent me. I appreciate it very much. If I can't manage to get one of the above books in time, I'm going to pick up one of the rec's you sent to my inbox from the library. Either way, there are definitely a few books you rec'd that I'm adding to my TBR shelf. Again, thank you so very much!

I'll be adding Nerd in Shining Armor and Preludes and Nocturnes to my to read list. They sound like things I'd like."
I'm glad you liked your choices and that you'll be joining me in reading some Jim Butcher this month. I can't wait to see what you rate them!

A - 5 star read: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
My last five star read was actually The Girl who played with Fire... but since this is the second book in a series, it’s probably better if i recommend The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, the first book in the series... which was a really good read itself.
B - TBR pick: Darkfever
Your to-read list is huge! So I just compared our books and found that you had Darkfever as a to-read. I loved it so much! And the books just get better throughout the series.
C - New to You: Dead Witch Walking
This book is a fun read, probably more for people like moi who are into the urban fantasy genre... For me, this was an enjoyable read, and the books get better throughout the series, and since you have read some urban fantasy, hopefully you’ll enjoy this one too.
D - For you and Me: Seers of Light
New to you, not to me. I’v actually had a really hard time trying to find this book so I have not yet found it... of course... my version of looking for a book is asking mother dearest to see if it’s at the library... so hopefully, if you choose to read this... you’ll have more luck.
E - Surprise Pleasure: Naked in Death
As someone who is more into urban fantasy and paranormal supernatural stuff... i read this because it was part of some list on Goodreads. Although it does have that future element since everything is in like... 2050... it is out of my usual reading and it was GREAT!
F - Extra pick: City of Bones
This is a young adult book that is definitely a great read. People either hate it or love it and the rating for this books proves that the latter is definitely winning. I enjoyed this book, it was fun and definitely hooked me.

Here are my picks for you, hope you find something that interests you.
A: Most Current 5 * Beast Behaving Badly by Shelly Laurenston...I see you have read two of The Pride series, in following the rules I am recommending #5. They are all extremely fun reds.
B: TBR Pick Outlander by Diana Gabaldon...I noticed you like historical romance and this is the beginning of my all time favorite series.
C: New to You Full Moon Rising by Keri Arthur...Absolutely fantastic paranormal romance series.
D: Book I Haven't Gotten to Yet Extreme Exposure by Pamela Clare...I actually have this book on my ereader and just haven't gotten around to reading it yet. All the reveiws are great so I thought I would suggest it for this month.
E: Surprise Pleasure: Redeeming Loveby Francine Rivers...Inspirational fiction is not usually my first pick but this book was amazing. A coworker suggested it and I really enjoyed it.
F: Extra Pick Comanche Moon by Catherine Anderson...I am a huge fan of Catherine Anderson and have to say this is one of my favorites.

A. My Sister's Keeper - I usually don't read these types of books, however I loved this one. I had watched the movie and decided I liked it so much that I wanted to see how ..."
Thanks so much for the very interesting picks! I will definitely pick up The Hunger Games and I already requested Tribute from the library...I've read a few Nora Roberts which I've liked but she has such an inmense backlist that I never know where to start.
I'm also very interested in A Great & Terrible Beauty...I may not get to it now but I sure put it in my wishlist to get later. :)
I'm already reading a Picoult this month - just not the one you suggested! But I've read many good things about it so I'll definitely keep My Sister's Keeper in the radar. :)

Here are my picks for you. I hope you like them.
A: 5 Star Read: Date Me, Baby, One More Time

Hi Joyce
Thanks for the recs. Put them on my TBR. I think this month I´ll read a
A Quick Bite - since everybody says it´s fun.

A: Last 5 Star book--Clockwork Angel It was great I loved it! As you probably already know it is the prequel to the Mortal Instruments Books.
B: In your TBR pile Morrigan's Cross.
nora Robers is always good- I enjoyed this one!
C:New to You: World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War This was recommended to me in a previous challenge and i loved it. Don't get thrown off by the title- give it a chance! It was another one i may have never picked up with out a recommendation- its great!
D: We both Wanted to read but haven't yet--
The Shack i have heard great things about this book! I would love to read this one with you! Maybe we can compare notes.
E:A surprise book Dracula the Un-Dead
This book was a little bit out of the box for me. I have not read alot of historical fiction. I loved how this author carried a very familiar story through real life history- and still had me guessing at the end! Loved the twists and turns this one took.
I hope that you can find something that interests you- i would love for you to read The Shack so we could read it together!Let me know what you think!
