What books have you read that you've enjoyed. No, not enjoyed: LOVED. What titles have made you laugh out loud, shed a tear (or at least get a lump in your throat), want to change yourself or the world? What book has altered the way you see yourself, your people, your country, your world? Elaborate.

Although this is on the internet, please make use of conventional English spelling and grammatical constructions. Also, use the 'add book/author' button to help readers follow your recommendations.

There are so many good books, I barely know where to begin. My all time favorite book at that moment is The Road. It isn't the sort of book to which most high school students would connect: it moves at a deathly creep, focusing on the relationship between a father and his son. Still, their relationship was powerful to watch ebb and flow.

When I was a junior, I loved fantasy and science fiction. I read Stranger in a Strange Land when I was sixteen, and was blown away by this story of an alien come to Earth. I'd read other books by the author that were mere adventure stories, but this one had profound implications, making me question truth and the nature of reality. Another book I enjoyed at the same time was Cry, the Beloved Country. This tale of South Africa was in some ways more alien than "Stranger's" Martian. By reading this, I began to believe, to understand that the world was far, far larger and more interesting than I knew, and it feed my desire to see more of it.

Some of my other favorites you might check out include: Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, The Knife of Never Letting Go, Audrey, Wait!, Swim the Fly, The Wanderers. I'm sure there are many, many I've forgotten about.

Maryn Robinson | 5 comments I used to read all the time back in middle school, I could read everything. But now I cannot find a good book. I haven't been able to find something that catches my attention and keeps it too. I don't remember many of the books I've read, although I remember reading certain books like Flushand Esperanza Rising. But I haven't been able to find a good book in a long time. I want to find a book that keeps my attention. Right now I'm reading Rule of the Boneand I like it because of the Reggae sections of the book. That catches my interest. But besides that the book is only a little interesting to me. I really want to find a book that I don't want to put down.

Shelby | 2 comments A good book to me is a book that you can relate to and understand. When you get a book and you cant understand it or get into the book then it takes you a long time to read and then you just start to not like reading. You have to get a book that you will enjoy. A good book to one person maybe not to another.

Malorie | 3 comments what makes books good is if they give you any sense of emotion or can keep you hooked and wanting more. ive come across so many books that in fact do just that. one example is the pretty little liars series. now i havent finished this series but i cant stop reading these book. i cant really say anything about them that wont give anything away except maybe this, they are about four former best friends who sort of come back together after their best friends ali, who wenr missing the summer after seventh grade, was found dead in her own back yard. then these girls start getting harrassed bassically by an anomyous person because of all these secrets they had with ali

message 8: by Meagan (new)

Meagan Morningstar | 2 comments A book I can love is a book that gets my attention in the first three to four chapters. I love window books that make me see other ways of life and different ways to imagine my own life in that book.I like to learn things when I read and think of myself as the main character instead of the actual main person. Loving a book can be a hard task to fullfil, but when you do its a very very nice thing.

Joseph Hartsfield (jwhh) | 3 comments I kind of liked Ender's Game , it was a good book it showed you how easily some one can be manipulated and used by the military, granted its a futuristic space themed book but still one of my favorites

Jason Sterett | 1 comments Books are only good when they keep your eyes on the page. You know it's a good book when it has things like action, drama, and comedy. I can only read books which keep me completely interested otherwise you get sidetract and your mind goes off in another direction. Action books are by far my most favorable genres for reading.

Uchelk | 2 comments The are so many wonderful books out there that I still would want to read.
so far the type of books i love are those inspirational books that expands my thinking about things. especially those window-book types. i love reading into different lives and just to know more about what goes on everyday with different types of people.so far i dont have a best book ever. still looking.

Tielynn Scott | 3 comments The best book are the one that have a lot of meaning, such as CrankGlassFallout, They happen to be my favorite books, her books have some kinda meaning to them. There is a window in my emperance. It teaches you what not to do and what to do! In my perspective i like the books that have some what a meaning on life, not ones that your just going to reed to just reed and not look back on it in life again. There are some books that in the future you can look back on and say i should not do that beacause of what hAd happened in the book.. thats why i like her kind of books.

Madisen | 3 comments For me, a good book is something that has you hooked, want to keep reading, and is interesting. A book that drags on, doesnt have a good story line, and makes you fall asleep isn't something I want to read. The books I have been enjoying the most lately are from Dean Koontz. His books keep me very entertained. I find my self at a really intense part and moving in my chair. Altough his books are very edgy and quite disturbing they keep me caught and want to continue reading. The thoughts and ideas that go into his stories give you a look into a maniacs life. You find yourself wondering what would posess someone to go on with these acts. Maybe it is a desperate cry for help or maybe they really do find pleasure in torcher. Not that anyone will ever be able to understand what drives a person to go on a massive torcher and killing spree, it keeps me wanting more.

message 14: by Andria (new)

Andria | 3 comments i like books that get me interested right away. when its not interesting like 50 pages in then i know that it wont be a good book. i like to read books that are like a window and i cant relate to what happens in the book.

Savannahc | 4 comments In my opinion, a good book consits of a serious theme. I like books that can teach me a life lesson. something that can open my eyes to new concepts and ideas. It seems that books with these kinds of themes are usually grimmer books. Books about things that wouldnt be catergorized as "average" Ellen Hopkin books are great examples of these kinds of books. However books with too much detail can distract me from the actual events in the story. Authors like Stephen King lose me in his discriptions. I also like books that are realistic in some manner. Love stories that are all mushy gushy is not my cup-o-tea. They seem nothing like reality. But any book that can hold my attention and can give me something to think about is in my opinion a good read.

A good book always has action that will keep you into the book and not fall asleep. some of my favorite boos are the hunger games books. I also like Dean koontz because his books are full of action and will keep you hooked.

Maria | 3 comments A good book is one you can't put down, and want to read it until you finish it. That keeps you interested and gives you details that help you picture what's going on. I'm in the middle of The Hunger Games, and I already know i'm going to love it. It's the kind of book that you can't put down. You'll want to keep reading it, and never stop.

Life As We Knew It, Crank , that I found really interesting. Crank is a great book, if you enjoy reading about drug addicts. Life as we knew it is a very scary book. It makes you think about what if a disater like that actually happened in to the earth. It really made me think about what I find important in my life, and what I would do if I was put into that sort of situation. I recommend everyone of these books.

Fernando Garcia | 3 comments the best book that i have read would be "A Child Called It". This book is great because i can understand where he is coming from and to some of the things he mentions is really believable beause I've seen it happen to people that I know.

Sabrina Nierras | 4 comments I've read a lot of good books but only a few can make it to my "good" list.
A few of my favorites is the Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer. Twilight i know a lot of people hate it but it actually has a good storyline and lots of suspense.
I don't like books that are big and boring like Harry Potter. i wouldn't even bear to go through a whole paragraph with it.
A few of the good books I've read are Shattering Glass by Gail Giles, Shattering Glass Go Ask Alice Go Ask Alice, and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen Pride and Prejudice which are the kind of "mirror" and "window" books to me.

Matthew | 4 comments the books that really grab my interest are the ones that allow me to look through a window at a world totally unlike the world we live in they also have to keap me gessing tell the end about what will happen next. one searies that was really good for this was the "hunger games" searies they really allowed me to look at a totally different way of life and it had anough action to keap me iterested tell the end.

Lanae Walker | 3 comments The best books for me are about things that involve drugs because something about them makes me get more interested in them. Also just kinda wierd books in a way to. Like Ellen Hopkins' books are something i enjoy. Anatomy of a Boyfriend to me is funny becuase its outgoing and whitty:P SWhen you start reading it, you get more intersested as you go cause something always seems to just pop up outta nowhere.

Denys Magana | 3 comments The best books that i have read this year have been the Ellen Hopkins. Why you may ask? Well because they are books that can take you in and make you not want to stop reading.

message 25: by Jessie (new)

Jessie W. | 4 comments I like to read books that are intense and make you want to keep reading. If I'm bored, it obviously would be hard to get through the whole book, so I try to find books that intrigue me from the very first page.
Typically, I read books that shows you things you would probably never think of. I sometimes just read books I can relate to, but those get boring after a while.
I love Ellen Hopkins books because they are really easy to read and they're also really interesting. I can't relate to any of the stories she's written, but it shows me what it would be like to be those people; it kind of puts me in their shoes for a while.
I recently read Living Dead Girl and really liked it. It was disturbing and I really didn't know what I was getting into when I decided to read it. I read it really fast because it was hard to put down. It's an easy book to read and I think a lot of other people would like it to. Most likely if you like Ellen Hopkins books, you would like this.
I've read a lot of good and even great books, but I can't remember all of them.

message 26: by Josh (new)

Josh | 1 comments A great book is one that grabs you by the huevos and doesnt let up, and keeps you wanting to read. Every time you put it down you cant wait to go back for more. To me a great book has a point, and isn't "dumbed down" and isn't sugar coated. Of course, just being obscene for the sake of filth is what ruins a book for me, because its not believable. Key words for books I like; sincere, personality, and realism.
