Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Great books, Ames! Lemme know what you think of Mary Roach's book. I was surprised how much I enjoyed her Cadavers book. I've also been thinking about getting Maze Runner. Looks interesting. Enjoy!!

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments @ Amy

I assume since you ordered book 2 that you've read Bitter Night (Horngate Witches, #1) by Diana Pharaoh Francis . How was it? I read her Path books ( Path of Fate (Path, #1) by Diana Pharaoh Francis Path of Honor (Path, #2) by Diana Pharaoh Francis Path of Blood (Path, #3) by Diana Pharaoh Francis ) a few years ago and enjoyed them. However when I read the first Crosspointe Chronicle The Cipher (Crosspointe Chronicles, #1) by Diana Pharaoh Francis , I just couldn't get as involved and never read any further.

Vivian (_vivian) | 1934 comments Daffodil - also curious about Afterlight! It sounds pretty good.

message 154: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments I'm not sure when I'm going to get to Afterlight, soon I hope. My TBR has quickly gotten out of control since joining Goodreads, though I can't blame this particular book on the site.

I was looking at Goodreads' description of Afterlight when I was adding it to my TBR and isn't it funny that the back cover blurb is completely different. So I started paying attention and noticed it with other books also. Wouldn't you think if it was good enough to go on the back cover, it was good enough for the publisher to send out for online cataloging and vice versa? Not really important, just one of those things that make you go hmmm?

message 155: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments I've noticed that as well. And sometimes Amazon and GR have diff write up as well. Definitely makes ya go Hmmmm.

Daffodil, here's my review. Basically I liked the gruesome scenes but the romance was "off". I think it suffered from 1st Book Syndrome so I'm hoping book 2 will be better.
I haven't read any of her other books yet.

message 157: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Thanks for the info on Bitter Night, Amy. Still not sure what to do about this series, I'll have to think on it.

In other news, I have a great excuse to move Afterlight Afterlight (The Dark Ink Chronicles, #1) by Elle Jasper up my TBR stack. Not that I really needed one. I need another A read for read "PARANORMAL" and I need another E read for read "NOVEMBER". So I'll probably pick it up as soon as I finish the mystery I'm reading right now.

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 468 comments I will probably have a bunch to share after the holidays. Gift cards! :) Yay. :)

message 163: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Don't worry I'm used to it. Gift cards aren't huge here in Aus.

Besides I've got about 800 books physically here I have to read (tbr is now offically over 900), so don't feel sorry for me. LOL.

message 164: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Judithe | 6566 comments Actually...feeling more ENVIOUS! LOL! I want to be you next year!

Sandra | 25908 comments Judithe, you don't want the extra pounds or the extra years. Trust me on both of those.

message 166: by Stacy (new)

Stacy (stacybinnj) | 55 comments OOoo... I just got these in the mail. They are all used.

Cry Wolf (Alpha & Omega, #1) by Patricia Briggs - Got from GR Bookswap

Also got these...
Undead and Unwed (Undead, #1) by MaryJanice Davidson Night Embrace (Dark-Hunter, #2) (Were-Hunter, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

I had ordered the Dark Hunter books from earlier on in the series so that I can catch up. I've only read one of the later books, No Mercy. I bought them all used to save on money.

People know that I want them... so I will probably get them. :)

LMAO!! I do not want to count how many I have. Thankfully many are digi-format, so space isn't an issue, but the years ... yeah, not in this lifetime, I'd imagine.

Jef bought me Nightshade (Nightshade, #1) by Andrea Cremer yesterday. Said the cover and blurb looked like something I'd like. Ahhh, how sweet. :D

message 173: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments John would never think to buy me a book cause he'd be sure to get one I already have.

Although he only rolls his eyes now when we're out & I pick up a book, he's stopped saying 'not another one'. Only took me 24 yrs to train him right. LOL.

@ Stacy, nothing wrong with 2nd hand books - love a bargain, then you can get more , and more ......

message 174: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments LOL, Sandra. He normally won't either for the same reason.

message 176: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments LOL! Good luck. Like Sandra said, it's taken 20+ yrs, but he's coming around. Course he bought a biggy for himself, Robert Jordan's latest release. That thing could be considered a deadly weapon it's so big.

LOL! You're so right. I was a bit worried the other day as I was shelving them...above my head. If just one fell on me my next words would be "Hello, St. Peter. How's it hangin'?"

I just ordered a Christmas order for the whole family, all books in different formats! Since we're trying to get my younger sister to start reading (she has a problem concentrating, but needs to read in order to pass her Swedish class), we decided to get her some new books, hoping she'd like at least one. In my search though, I found books to the rest of the family as well. So I decided to have a little book theme on my presents, being the Book-Santa this year, ha ha! (And they actually like to read or wanted books, so I'm not forcing anything they don't want on them. ;)

Hitman Enemy Within by William C. Dietz Pet Sematary by Stephen King Cell by Stephen King Duma Key by Stephen King What Came Before He Shot Her (Inspector Lynley #14) by Elizabeth George Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist by Rachel Cohn Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist by Rachel Cohn Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List by Rachel Cohn

(And yes, there's supposed to be to Nick & Norah, one's for my boyfriends younger sister, who's in the same age mine is, both having similar taste. :)

Diffenetly going out if I can't find someone to get me the rest. Just didn't want to put this book down

message 189: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments LOL. I know what you mean Amber, I bought the lot pretty damn quickly too.

message 190: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Judithe | 6566 comments Hmmm...have a few on hand, but will start along with a challenge next year. Maybe have to start collecting the rest, too, as it seems to be so highly addictively rated!

message 191: by Wan (new)

Wan (wanwaddell) | 612 comments I love Gena. Got the LOTU two months ago. Now, just bought the Alien Huntress series.

I spent too much money already this year with books and normally get hardcovers. Just put it this way, if I have to choose between lunch and book. I'll choose book. It's necessity. :-)

message 198: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Went to my parents for Thanksgiving. All I can say is I'm lucky there's not a Half Price Books near me or I wouldn't have any money for food . . . or utilites . . . or rent. ;D

I had to limit myself to the following:
Night Season (World of the Lupi, #4) by Eileen Wilks Mortal Sins (World of the Lupi, #5) by Eileen Wilks Blood Magic (World of the Lupi, #6) by Eileen Wilks Kiss Me Once, Kiss Me Twice (Farrel Sisters, #1) by Kimberly Raye Sometimes Naughty, Sometimes Nice (Farrel Sisters, #2) by Kimberly Raye The Seventh Witch (Ophelia & Abby, #7) by Shirley Damsgaard Midnight Crystal (Dreamlight Trilogy, #3; Arcane Society, #9; Harmony, #7) by Jayne Castle Scorched (The Dark Forgotten, #2) by Sharon Ashwood Animal Attraction by Charlene Teglia Touch the Dark (Cassandra Palmer, #1) by Karen Chance Claimed By Shadow (Cassandra Palmer, #2) by Karen Chance Embrace the Night (Cassandra Palmer, #3) by Karen Chance Lucinda, Dangerously (Demon Princess Chronicles, #2) by Sunny Love in the Time of Dragons (Light Dragons, #1) by Katie MacAlister Scoundrel (The Blades of the Rose, #2) by Zoe Archer

I borrowed Touch the Dark from the library when it first came out. As I remember, it wasn't horrible but it wasn't anything spectacular IMO. The rest of the series was added to my "someday" list and there it stayed, mainly because there's just so much UF out there now. A lot of people here like the series and it was recommended to me, so I decided to give it another try. When I get to it anyway. At least now, it's on the TBR shelf and not on a "someday" list. LOL

message 199: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments I absolutely love the Cassie Palmer series!
Yeah, I understand it's not to everyone's taste but I've been told (seeing as I've loved all the books) that you shouldn't judge it so much on the first book, that it gets better, probably like a lot of series out there. I think the thing I like most of all is that you end up loving not just the main character but all the others too, it's not so centred on one person. It's also really funny as well. Anyway, I hope you love the series when you get round to reading the rest :)

message 200: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments The other thing that's convinced me to give it another try is how much I love the short stories appearing in various anthologies, featuring a different character from the same universe. (My brain's still on vacation and I can't remember her name at the moment.)
