Actually I've only read one other book by Celeste Bradley (Fallen) and I wasn't really impressed. If I remember correctly the heroine kept on getting on my nerves but as I look around loads of other people have given it high ratings, actually makes me wanna re-read - haaah, like I have time, my TBR pile is overflowing already. The reason I'm back to Celeste is that I stumbled on To Wed a Scandalous Spy, liked the concept of the book and decided to give the whole series a try. And lets be honest if I like the series I'm so gonna take another look at Fallen :)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Ok, awesome. LOL I tried to find the events, but it says I don't have ANY, which I know is a blatant lie! Darned Goodreads!!!!

message 107: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 182 comments I always have to click the "show past events link" (on the right) to get it to show my old ones.

Cheryl (ghemomma) | 900 comments Ok.. I've got to decide what I'm doing. I know I can change books at any time but I'd feel like I'm accomplishing something big if I list them and stick to them.. so off I go to find books!

I'm thinking I'll do something like this:

Read 2 books that have been sitting on my shelf for quite some time.
1.
2.

Read 2 books that I have recently purchased.
1.
2.

Well as you know, I have been reading books I own and not buying any since May, so I think I deserve a treat! :)

message 121: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

message 124: by Dina (new)

Dina (missdina) | 718 comments Oh Catherine, I have several! Here's a "short" list: Only You, Only Love, Beautiful Dreamer, It Had to Be You, Heaven, Texas, One for the Money, After the Night, Born in Fire (Born In trilogy #1), ... Should I go on? ;)

Catherine | 182 comments Dina wrote: "Oh Catherine, I have several! Here's a "short" list: Only You, Only Love, Beautiful Dreamer, It Had to Be You, Heaven, Texas, [bo..."

Wow! What makes you keep them for that long? I mean, why don't you get rid of them? Ten years is a really long time to have something sitting around taking up space when you aren't getting any enjoyment out of them!

I've read the last three out of that list!

message 126: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Dina wrote: "Should I go on? ;) "

Please, do. :)

message 127: by Dina (new)

Dina (missdina) | 718 comments Catherine wrote: "What makes you keep them for that long? I mean, why don't you get rid of them?"

Same answer as Anja's. I hang on to them because I might read them eventually. My reading taste has changed through the years and I find myself reading books today that I wouldn't be caught dead reading years ago, so hope springs eternal for all the oldies collecting dust in my bookshelves.

message 128: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 182 comments Anja wrote: "I hang onto mine because I think I'm going to read them someday. Like people that keep clothes thinking they'll fit into them again, I think these books will fit me at some point in the future."

That makes sense! I've kept clothes for a few years hoping to fit back into it. (damn babies are ruining me!) I just can't imagine keeping it for so long. I would have given up years ago!

Mollie *scoutrmom* (scoutrmom) | 170 comments I haven't yet figured out exactly what I'll be reading, except that it will include things for a challenge on another site. I've not yet read the rules for that challenge. I think that since October is the tenth month, I'll commit to ten books.
1. Dracula
2. Frankenstein
3. an author I've not read before: The Green Mile by Stephen King
4. A book that is released in October
5. an ebook
6. tbd
7. tbd
8. tbd
9. tbd
10. tbd

Mollie *scoutrmom* (scoutrmom) | 170 comments UniquelyMoi *~*Dhestiny*~* wrote: "I'm going to read Frankenstein, too. I've seen the movie, but never read the book."

My mom tells me it's not horror, and it's nothing like the movies. She taught English for over 30 years, she should know.

message 132: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 182 comments Wow, Mollie! I've never read the book either, but I'm surprised to hear it's not really horror-ish. You both should post back here after you read it and tell me how it differs from all the movies!

message 133: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Mollie, I don't know if I'm happy about that or not. I wonder if it's sci-fiesque then.

Mary Shelley wrote it long before sci-fi was invented. I think the book is much more about the doctor than about his creation.

message 135: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments I understand it was written long before sci-fi, I was comparing flavors, that's all.

I guess I'll find out pretty soon. Is there anyone out there who has actually read Frankenstein besides my Mom?

1. Re-read something first read more than 25 years ago: Dracula by Bram Stoker

2. Try one recommended by Mom: Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

3. An author I've not read before: The Green Mile Book Box Set by Stephen King

4. A book that is released this October: Styx's Storm(Breeds #22) by Lora Leigh

5. An ebook, perhaps Size Matters by Stephanie Julian

6. Something utterly silly tbd

7. Something with Ten or October in the title tbd

8. Something with a Halloween reference in the Title or Theme tbd

9. A paranormal romance tbd

10. Something referring to a disguise or costume in the Title or Theme tbd, perhaps Angels and Demons by Dan Brown which has been under my night table for a while.

Dracula by Bram Stoker Frankenstein by Mary Shelley The Green Mile Book Box Set by Stephen King Styx's Storm (Breeds, #22) by Lora Leigh

I'd welcome suggestions on my tbd's... please weigh in with your opinion.

Katherine | 828 comments Mollie, did you read Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake by Sarah MacLean ? If you did Ten Ways to Be Adored When Landing a Lord by Sarah MacLean comes out the end of Oct. and would work for your #7.

D.G. UniquelyMoi *~*Dhestiny*~* wrote: "I'm going to read Frankenstein, too. I've seen the movie, but never read the book."

Frankenstein is AMAZING! It's NOTHING at all like any of the movies, which focus on the monster aspect. The book is NOT horror or sc-fi in the way we understand it, just good fiction about a creature and his relationship with his creator (BTW...Frankenstein is not the monster but the doctor who created him.) There were parts that had me crying my eyes out.

Dina!! Please read [book:It Had to Be You|73070]! I just recommended that book in RRRC's pick it for me challenge. I loved it!

message 141: by Dina (new)

Dina (missdina) | 718 comments D.G., I made it until Chapter 3 when I tried to read it some 10 years ago... I was so freaked out - you know what I'm talking about, don't you? Since then, I've been told that things weren't like they seemed to be, but I still have nightmares when I remember that scene. I'm a wuss, LOL.

D.G. Hmmm...the scene with the Coach and his ex-wife in his house where Phoebe shows up? OMG! It's not what you're thinking!!!!

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments I have It Had To Be You.

D.G. My comparison with sci-fi was more along the lines of the mad scientist/doctor. I'm looking forward to reading it, more so than I was.

message 145: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 182 comments I don't know what to do for this challenge...

message 146: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Is it because there are no restrictions? LOL

You could Spell October. Spell Halloween. Choose to read a certain number of spooky books. Or x number of books by a new author... come on Catherine, you can do it!!!!

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 630 comments I have also read Frankenstein, it was a lot different to what I expected when I started it. i was expecting some gothic horror akin to Dracula, but as far as I can remember (it has been a while since I have read it!) it wasn't like that. Like you said it was more about the doctor, then the monster. But I do remember kind of feeling sorry for Frankensteins monster in it. I think this is a book that I am going to have to reread.

message 148: by Catherine (last edited Sep 30, 2010 02:31PM) (new)

Catherine | 182 comments Alright, here it goes...We can only hope I won't live to regret specifying these books.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Oooooh, I want to know what you think of The Lover. Have you read The Lady's Tutor?

Awesome list. YOU CAN DO IT!!!

If I pull it off, I'll be reading a total of 9 books, all pre-committed titles. But I've left myself some wiggle room and only committed to 7 total. My choices will work for both challenges.

message 150: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 182 comments No I have The Lover and The Lady's Tutor but haven't read either. I believe they were rec'ed to my by Rane as a "dark" romance she loves.
