Kathleen Gresham (kathleengresham) | 2637 comments So, Arushi, is everyone at the beach except you and me? It's awfully quiet around here....
Is anybody home...---ome...---ome...---one?
Hmm, guess not.
Later!

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments I am not here. Fun is suffering from sinus/allergy crap--I totally missed Easter dinner/stuff my family went to because of it.

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments I've been so busy, and I was a way for a few days, but it's back to business as usual now (hopefully!)

I'm moving into our new house at the moment which is a bit stressful and tomorrow we'll go visit our families in Germany.

message 2408: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments I'm sorry about your sinuses, Llaph :(

My Mom had bronchitis and an awful stomach flu, so my easter visit wasn't as restful as I hoped. Still, it was great to spend time with family before finals start.

Congrats on the new house, Sarah!

Kathleen Gresham (kathleengresham) | 2637 comments Help! What happened to the movie casting game? Can't find it in Fun & Games. I was in the thread earlier & now can't find it. Is it elsewhere?

message 2414: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments It's in the Series Discussion folder. Apparently I thought it was a serious topic rather than a fun one LMAO!

If you want a list of all topics, you can find them here:

message 2416: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments I got to feeling better thanks. :) I just spent the weekendd driving from Texas to So Cal to go to my sister's graduation for her master's. My wittle sister is an NP officially now. She even got away with putting "NP" and blinging up her mortarboard (that flat bit of the cap)
We got home yesterday morning and I am so tired--even though I did not drive at all. The charge for my wireless headphones lasted the entire trip both ways--after I charged it of course--which is so awesome I can't say how much so. Noise cancellation ftw~

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments I am in cibolo, between austin and san antonio--closer to SA.

message 2420: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen Gresham (kathleengresham) | 2637 comments Hi, Llaph. I'm not familiar with Cibolo, though I love Central Texas.

(I maintain that deep down, every Texan yearns to live in Austin---or used to, before it got taken over and turned into a city. I used to spend a lot of time there. Mmmmmm, Austin.

SA used to be a great town, too. I spent two months working in there a few years ago but sadly had no time for fun.

Do ya'll have hummingbird feeders? Even if hummers are hard to see, you can hear them.

Sorry, I'm obviously not Duca. ;-)

message 2429: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments My little sister had knee surgery yesterday. I feel bad for her because she's in so much pain.

I spent almost the whole day helping my mother in the garden, but I have all these research papers to read! It's a really great thing that this professor is letting me hang around in his lab this summer...but his research is SO BORING.

message 2430: by Mai (new)

Mai (maisydaisy) Aw man bummer :( nothing worse than watch someone in pain and being helpless. What kind of lab is it?

message 2431: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments It's information retrieval *wrinkles nose*

And yeah, it's really hard. The medicine they gave her isn't helping with the pain at all.

message 2432: by Mai (new)

Mai (maisydaisy) So like, statistics and stuff? As an arts student, ewwww :D Omg, that sucks so hard, your poor sister! I know that feel, I'm in the middle of my college exams and over the last month I've strained my back and my wisdom teeth started acting up. I probably damaged my liver, the amount of painkillers I took to be able to study. I think your sister takes the biscuit though! The poor thing :(

message 2433: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments Yeah, kind of statistics, but also a lot of computer programming. That part is fun. Today I read a book about writing programs that learn. Think the recommendation function on GR.

And yeah, she is doing better today but still having trouble getting around :(

message 2434: by Joscelin (new)

Joscelin (joscelineberle) | 53 comments I've never commented on this thread, but I just have to say, Claire I saw that you go to school in DC and I am so jealous! I love DC and ever since I went there, I've dreamed of going back. Do you like it there?
Also, I'm jealous of everyone who is from Europe. I would give anything for a plane ticket to go there right now and I would never come back. I would visit every museum, cathedral, and castle ever build :)

Also, I hope your sister feels better soon Claire!

message 2435: by Mai (new)

Mai (maisydaisy) Lol, you must be getting some fun recs. Tell your sister a bunch of people on the internet said get well soon, lol.
Living in Europe is nice, but I imagine it would be more fun on the continent. Ireland is nice and all but it's not as cool as say France or Italy. Then again I have an Itslian friend who lives Ireland because it's so green, so I think things you're not used to always look cooler. I'm going on Erasmus next year, so after I come back, I bet Ireland will seem amazing.

message 2436: by Joscelin (new)

Joscelin (joscelineberle) | 53 comments For me, I think its European history that really get me. One of my majors is history and I have always found European history so much more interesting than American. So to actually get to go to all of the places I have read about would be great. I live in a pretty small town in Wisconsin so my options are pretty limited in the history department.

message 2437: by Mai (new)

Mai (maisydaisy) That makes sense. I'm a huge fan of museums too, especially natural history museums. I love fossils. The problem is that in the UK alone there are probably more than I could ever visit in a life time! Won't stop me from trying though :D

message 2438: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments Thanks for the well wishes, everyone!

@Joscelin I have to say, going to school in DC is pretty great. It's a little surreal that the president drove by me while I was walking back from class.

message 2439: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments So I had a little accident today.

I'm out on my bike on a cycle track, and there's a blind corner on the route. I slow down and get over to the left hand side (following UK road rules) and go round the corner ... only to come face to face with a little boy and his dad on their bikes, and the boy is right in front of me. I slammed on the brakes and swerved hard left to avoid him. Unfortunately it had been raining hard yesterday and the side of the path was muddy as hell and my semi-slick tyres couldn't handle it. I felt the back of the bike slip away from me and down I went!

I've got gravel rash on one hand and it's a bit swollen, and I seem to have taken a small chunk out of my knee, which I'm not going to think about too much!! Lots of blood everywhere.

However, no real damage done to me or bike, and it was pretty funny, because I was COVERED in mud!! The dad was upset and helped me up and commiserated, but I think the little boy got a fright, and I felt a little bad about that, but really people should keep to their own side of the track if they can't see what's coming round the corner (i.e. me probably going a bit too fast LOL)

I think I'm going to have some spectacular bruises to show off tomorrow! :D

message 2440: by Angel (new)

Angel (darkfae_angel) | 207 comments Ouch! I can understand completely. Been in a few accidents myself.

Poor kid might have learned a valuable lesson at your cost. I wouldn't give him another thought. Just get ice everywhere ;)

message 2441: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments The boy was only about five or six. His dad should really have been telling him to move over. But yeah, I hope they both learned a lesson!

message 2442: by Mai (new)

Mai (maisydaisy) Ow ow ow that sounds miserable! You poor thing!

message 2443: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments That sucks Lannister. I can so commiserate with people being on the wrong side of a roadway. When I went to Criss Cole (rehab center for the blind) students live on campus. It has the rooms, class rooms, cafeteria, and living areas.
Now, imagine all of those hallways and a building full of blind people (students and the workers there) all getting somewhere. You are supposed to tap tap, but some people just put their cane tips in the corner and went by fast and didn't think about stuff that could be on the floor.
Now when you have people like that (I did it all the time I admit) and the asshats are on the wrong side of the hallway and run into the person going the right way ... who is also blind ... and probably doing the same thing ... well you get it right?
Drove me nuts, I think I yelled at someone for that crap almost everyday. "Get on your own side" or something like that.

message 2445: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Thanks folks, my knee is quite stiff and sore today, and I've gone to the chemist to buy all sorts of plasters and antiseptic creams and what not (I'm utterly useless at first aid. I deal with all injuries by sticking a plaster on them and hoping for the best!)

Llaph, yeah, I hear where you're coming from. It's simply common sense to stick to your side of the path when you can't see what's ahead, but common sense is sometimes in very short supply!

message 2446: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments I've been sick since last week with a sinus infection and bronchitis. I wasn't feeling better so I went back to the doctor. Turns out my lungs are still congested and my ears are still red and whatnot (they still hurt, too.)

This has not been a fun week! The only upside is that I've had uninterrupted reading time.

message 2447: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments @Claire:
Hope you get/got over it quickly. I have sinus/allergy issues that kick my ass lately and I hate sinus problems.

So, I ordered another set of blue tooth headphones for myself, the same exact pair that I also use just a different color, and some dog treats to try out on the dogs. I got them yesterday and totally mixed them up some how so I had to get a sighted person to tell me which headphones were which and which treats were the fish and sweet potato vs the other kind. They were from same maker, had same bag, and I couldn't smell the difference since my sniffer ain't that great. lol

Officially feeling motivated to write some fanfic. Will hopefully take my mind off my illness

Kathleen Gresham (kathleengresham) | 2637 comments Well, I finally gave up on using the Kindle app on my phone. It eats up too much storage space and freezes the phone.

So I found a deal on a 64 GB Kobo reader. It's really an Android tablet with lots of storage space but fewer bells and whistles.

I have so many Kindle books (mostly freebies) that I will run the Kindle app, too.

I'll report back on how it works out.

It was only $159 on eBay (Buy it now) for the 64 GB model, running Android 4.1.4, so it beat Kindle prices by far.
