Does anyone know any books like that? :)

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments I'll have to think a bit to see if I can think of a series like that, Aori.

And it's finally time for my vacation. Yay.

message 1103: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments I am not sure I am listing what you want, but these are the series were I think the female is powerful in her own right and doesn't gain it/learn it from her boyfriends/lovers:

Dead Witch Walking (The Hollows, #1) by Kim Harrison Rachel Morgan from the Hollows series doesn't really mentor the weaker males, but she's clearly stronger than all the guys, Definitely stronger than all her love interests...

Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews Kate Daniels isn't stronger than her love interest, but she's just as strong and doesn't learn from him, she starts off strong.

Spider's Bite (Elemental Assassin, #1) by Jennifer Estep Gin Blanco is another one who is pretty sharp from the start. She does have backstory where her foster father trains her, but none of her love interests can compare to her.

Rosemary and Rue (October Daye, #1) by Seanan McGuire Toby Daye stands on her own feet, her lovers are either as strong as her, or weaker than her.

(Huh, those are my favorite series... I wonder if I have a trend...LOL)

I don't know if that's what you wanted... I can't really think of a series where she is the teacher and her lover is one she trains...

message 1106: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments even better! :) I like travelling.. but I like to divide up my "vacation" times with relaxing at home, getting things done, etc.

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments Exactly.

That and getting some sleep.

I'm reading the Unbound anthology and am on the story by Jocelyn Drake. The MC female is a powerful vampire and teaching a younger male vamp. I am not far in it yet though to say much about it. I knopw Jocelyn Drake has some books but I haven't checked if this story connects to a series or what. Anyone else know?

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments Arushi wrote: "Have a good time taking a break Mello! That so sounds awesome :)"

It is awesome. Even though I woke up before 9am today and ended up spending most of the day cleaning. Got more to do tomorrow.

Gonna finally unbox all of the nerdy stuff I never unboxed when I moved in 2 1/2 years ago.

message 1115: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Yay Mello! Have a good time. :)

message 1117: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments Sometime cleaning up is good. I ended up cleaning up my whole wardrobe (and the extra bed in my room where I keep dumping clothes and stuff) last Saturday coz I could not really find anything anymore. Ended up putting away all the winter stuff and realized I had more summer clothing than I knew.

It also left so much SPACE! :O

message 1118: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments LOL! A room definitely feels bigger after you tidy away all the accumulated crap. I need to move some piles of books into my spare room, but I haven't got round to it yet. But that'll clear up some space all right.

Summer clothing feels like a distant hope, given how cold it's been here lately!

message 1119: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments I know.. and as for books I know what you mean. My desk was buried under books that I had received (begged off?) at Penguin during my internship and I realized I will probably never read them. Considering how much I hate reading from paper now. So I sighed and packed them all away. Suddenly I had a desk where I could put stuff :O

I have heard that too - its decent here right now but on its way to getting indecently hot. Ugh. A desert is good only for spring and autumn. Winter is blah (you keep waiting for it to get cold enough to show off your new boots) and summer is murder. At least you get to wear your pretty black scarf Lannister :)

message 1120: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Wow, you remembered I have a black scarf! :D I'm sad to say I've hardly taken it off since about last October LOL! Maybe another month ....

My computer desk is an explosion. It's full of assorted computery parts, reference books, ringbinder folders, a tub of pens, another tub with my PC-building kit (screwdrivers, torch, cable ties, screws & god knows what else), more books, notepads, three types of handcream (I don't know why either) and fingerless gloves (cos my hands get really cold sometimes.) I fear I'll come home one night and the whole thing will have collapsed!

message 1121: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments I need to do some more tidying up. Given that I never really sit at my desk, I don't remember to clean it. I don't use my desk at home either because I like to work at the kitchen table.

message 1122: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments I am not a fan of my current writing class. I struggle with a lot of the writing projects, yet I don't think I am learning anything. Blah :P

message 1123: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments I'm sorry! I've never liked taking writing classes because I hate having to change my writing style to suit each professor.

Got a 100 on my Italian midterm and Linear Algebra was super easy! So it would be a great day if I didn't have quantum mechanics homework. *sigh*

message 1124: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments @Lannister - Of course I remembered. I like the idea of your desk.. me thinks that I should come to see you before I get my next laptop and then take you with me when I buy it and then bug you into customizing it. That'll be so cool. For me at least.

@Zeenat - I know what you mean. I tried to take one on Coursera but just could not get into it.

Speaking of, there is a class starting like today, called a A Guide to Irrational Behavious on Coursera.org by Eric Rabkin. You guys (ESPECIALLY Lannister) should check it out. I think it'll be fun :D

@Claire - I hear you. Hopefully you'll enjoy the Quantum mechanics thing... if not, at least the high from the good marks should make it easier.

message 1125: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Hmph, my behaviour is perfectly rational! But I'm always drawn to the surreal and the bizarre. And I like goofing around, cos it's funny! :D

It sounds like an interesting course though.

message 1126: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments Pssht, don't take it as a comment on your rationality. It was a comment on the fact that you enjoy interesting stuff.

So far, I do think the course will be a lot of fun. The first survey that I did for them was sweet!

message 1127: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments Yeah... I might share what I wrote for class last week on my blog, just cause it was soooo hard to write. lol

Claire--I love your profile pic! You're so mature and smart, I forget how young you are! :)

message 1128: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments Thank you, Zeenat! I appreciate the compliment =)

Honestly, I keep forgetting that you're all older than I am!

@Arushi I find it interesting, I just dislike getting assignments on things we skipped in class!

message 1129: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments @Claire - fair enough :) I hated assignments in general. I have to admit I am glad to have finished Uni. Whew!

Anna | 1680 comments Aori wrote: "Hello ladies and gents! I'm tired of weak females..."

Hi Aori
Not sure if Lannister/Enjee/Sarah would want to move this to General Book Talk...but...have you read these 3?
Kate Daniels is an asskicking alphafemale. (Magic Bites) You don't know the full extent of her power for a while but she takes no shit from anyone. She doesn't mentor the alpha male, but she doesn't let him anyone push her around. My only reservation is that book 1 is not that well written (ducks & hides behind sofa). The Ilona Andrews team were still learning their craft there, but stick with it - by book 3 they are seriously flying! Kind of fantasy/magic/weres in a post apocalyptic Atlanta.

Dory in the other KC series is not an 'alpha' as she has some issues, but she easily holds her own amongst vampires and kills enough for them to be scared of her. (#1 Midnight's Daughter) There is a male in there and some seriously funny scenes-especially in book 3. A parallel series to the Cassie books.

I really like Mercy Thompson:(Moon Called) Patricia Briggs. The main characters are weres. She is a coyote so not as strong but needs to survive on her wits and can do things the wolves can't. The most 'realistic' of the 3.

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments So, is it spring yet for anyone? It's still cold here in DC!

message 1132: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments Its spring going on to summer here. There are days when we have switched on the AC. *hides from everyone who is still dealing with winter*

message 1133: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments It snowed here yesterday!!! Even in Scotland, snow at nearly the end of March is uncommon (at least, in the area I live.) I'm outraged with the weather gods! However, bizarrely, despite snowing literally all day, it didn't lie except for a little dusting late on last night and it's all gone this morning, thank goodness.

The weather is borked.

*throws a snowball at Arushi for having AC on*

message 1134: by Arushi (last edited Mar 23, 2013 07:58AM) (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments Hahaha Its better than Canada trust me :) My friends in SK are posting pictures of snow drifts in their driveways - its that ridiculous there. I did hear a theory that another Ice Age should be beginning soon. So maybe its starting from the North down? Shrug.

Btw, Lannie, you should check out the 'Story of 4 words' thread. Don't say that I don't tell you abt good things even if I sit with my AC on as I do it :P

The weather is changing all the time. A few days ago I could run around in a t-shirt and today we had -3 °C. I want summer!

message 1136: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments I know! Today it was 54 F but Monday it's supposed to snow. So many upsets.

message 1137: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Wilson | 404 comments Today it's only 66 F but yesterday it was 81 here. This month our low temps have ranged from 34 to 65 and our highs from 66 to 94. Late fall to early spring our weather jumps around but I prefer it to summer because it's already been too hot this month. Summer will be scorching.

message 1138: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments It's cold here again! it was 35 F last night!!

message 1139: by Anna (new)

Anna | 1680 comments Snow down here in the south of the UK as well all weekend. Now I like snow but not in March for heaven's sake! Where are the daffodils!

message 1140: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments Our daffodils have bloomed and it snowed anyway! It's upsetting because the cherry blossom festival was supposed to start this weekend.

message 1141: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments @Claire - Ouch. I feel for the others, but its worse when the weather is good for a while and then crashes. :(

message 1142: by Karen (new)

Karen (nzlkat) | 1731 comments ..... or if it is great for ages and doesn't crash .... we are hanging out for rain over here in New Zealand, pretty much the whole country is on water restrictions, the whole north island is officially in drought with Wellington currently on a total outdoor water useage ban.

message 1143: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Jeez, and it's all in the news over here that the UK may officially run out of gas supplies because of higher than average usage over the last few months.

What's that old joke about not being able to organise a piss-up in a brewery? That's governments for you.

message 1144: by Zeenat (new)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments my facebook was blowing up with pictures of snow... I pointed and laughed... I'm cruel ;)

Lannister, what do you mean no gas... like no heat or hot water gas? THAT SUCKS!

message 1145: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Zeenat, I dare say it's just ridiculous media hype, but yes there is talk that gas supplies are extremely low ...

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/...

I think it's extremely unlikely to happen, but there's nothing like a good scare story to get the public's dander up!

message 1146: by Anna (new)

Anna | 1680 comments I missed that one... The Daily Mail hasn't caught on yet so it can't be true! Do you reckon you can panic buy gas?
I might buy some more hot water bottles just in case!

message 1147: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments I'm sorry everyone!

For you Jim Butcher fans....It would seem that Mab forgot it's NOT HER TURN.
