Tips for working with series

I usually put a note in about chronological vs. publication order, mentioning what the author wants and/or what is generally recommended by fans. I think info like that in notes is very helpful.
HiIs there any more info / faqs on how to correct series showing up incorrectly? eg showing up twice as in:
A Hat Full of Sky (Tiffany Aching, #2) (Tiffany Aching #2)
(this book is also part of the Discworld series, and that shows up in My Books, but not on the book page.)
I'd like to know how to fix this sort of thing.
It's not exactly incorrect -- it's just that the info was put both in the title and in the series entry. You can remove it from the title, but some people object to that.
It's also not necessary. Just removing the extra space after the parentheses on the title line should fix it.

tried that, didn't seem to make any difference...
It's not working at all. I even deleted all the text and re-keyed it from scratch and it won't work. The only thing that worked was to remove the second set of parenthesis. I tried it on The Wee Free Men (Tiffany Aching, #1), A Hat Full of Sky (Tiffany Aching, #2) and Wintersmith.

My head hurts...
I think Goodreads only parses one set of parenthesis, I changed them to: The Wee Free Men (Tiffany Aching, #1; Discworld, #30)
A Hat Full of Sky (Tiffany Aching, #2; Discworld, #32)
Wintersmith (Tiffany Aching, #3; Discworld, #35)
and it appears to have fixed it.

I tried it on the edition I read, but it didn't seem to work, so I reverted it. I'm new to this and don't want to mess anything up...

What didn't seem to work about it?
Vicky wrote: "... What didn't seem to work about it? "This is for ISBN 0552553697.
On the edit page I changed it to:
"Wintersmith (Tiffany Aching, #3; Discworld, #35)"
but when I save that and it takes me back to the book page, that says:
"Wintersmith (Tiffany Aching #3)" !
But in my books it's right:
"Wintersmith (Tiffany Aching, #3; Discworld, #35)"
{actually if I highlight and copy the bit above what actually pastes is:
"Wintersmith (Tiffany Aching, #... Wintersmith (Tiffany Aching, #3; Discworld, #35)" - the rest must be hidden in the hypertext.}
I believe what is happening is that one the book's page it recognizes the text in brackets as series info and instead replaces it with its actual series info. I suspect when a book is listed under multiple series that it only shows one. how it decides on which one, I'm not sure.On our shelves, it is not showing the actual series with link, just what users have listed in brackets.

The first one is the only one that will show after the book's title on the actual book page. Everywhere else (editions page, searches, lists, etc.) the content of the actual title line is displayed.

Thanks, that makes sense.
Hello, not sure if this belongs here, but since it's about series, I hope I'm on the right track.
The main page for an author shows some of the series and when I press: More series by ..... the books are not the same as on the main author's page. How do I make sure they match, since the main page is not correct?
The main author page is cached for performance reasons. It will be updated in a day or two. The information on the series page is the most up-to-date.
Vicky wrote: "@Rossy (msg 96) - Same as above, published vs. chronological order is subjective and the order the author/publisher/etc gives is more of an official order than a fan created chronology (even if correct). Definitely don't change the current series order.I don't think we have an official policy on it, but I would rather see a note on the main series saying "the chronological order is..." then having two series for every series that was not published in chronological order. "
That makes a lot of sense, thank you both!

Sometimes when there is an extra space after the last parentheses on the title line, the parser gets confused. Removing the extra space fixes it.
