You are NOT required to keep track of the number of Golden Oldies (GOs) or Big Books (BBs) you read in order to participate in the Seasonal Reading Challenge. The only reason to do so is if you would like a chance to design a task in the following season's challenge.

Extra points are NOT awarded for reading Golden Oldies or Big Books. Instead, you collect "tickets." At the end of the current challenge, participants with tickets are entered into a random drawing to see who will design task 20.4 Golden Oldies (for books first published in or before 1950) and task 20.5 Bigger is Better (for Big Books) in the upcoming challenge. One ticket = one chance to design a task.

A player may design only one task per challenge. Therefore, if you know you will finish the challenge, there is no reason to make the moderators keep track of your Golden Oldies and Big Book tickets. You are, of course, welcome to keep track of them on your own, if you wish.

If you would like a chance to design a task, here are the rules (and some examples) concerning the award of Golden Oldies and Big Book tickets:

Golden Oldies

From the Challenge Rules:

20.4 GOLDEN OLDIES - Players may earn a ticket for each book FIRST published in or before 1950. A random ticket will be drawn from the ticket pool to determine who creates this task. Challenge finishers are not eligible for the drawing. Players must specifically request a ticket in the post by claiming "Golden Oldie" and stating the original publication year. See the current season's Posting Requirements for more information.

** You will receive one ticket for each book FIRST published in or before 1950. You can usually find the first published date in parentheses behind the date your specific edition was published. See example above. The first published data is circled in red. Hint: Click on photo above to see a larger version.
** You must specifically mention in your completed task post that a book is a Golden Oldie. Updating a tally at the top or bottom of your post is NOT enough.

EXAMPLE POST:
Avid Reader

10.7 - City Lights
The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers
**I'd like a Golden Oldie ticket for The Heart is a Lonely Hunter (first published: 1940)**

Total points to date = 45 points

GOs this post: 1
Total GOs to date: 14

**If you forget to mention that a book is a Golden Oldie, you may post another message in the Completed Task thread explaining that you forgot to mention its Golden Oldie status and include the number of the post in which the book was claimed for points, the task number the book was read for, and a link to the book.

SAMPLE REPOST:
Avid Reader
This post is to claim Golden Oldie tickets ONLY. No new points.
Points originally claimed in post #115.

5.9 - Comfort Read
I, Robot by Isaac Asimov
**I, Robot is a Golden Oldie (first published in 1950). I claim one GO ticket.**

Big Books

From the Challenge Rules:

20.5 BIGGER IS BETTER – Players may earn a ticket for each Big Book read: One ticket for reading a book of 500 pages or more; two tickets for reading a book of 750 pages or more; three tickets for reading a book of 1000 pages or more. A random ticket will be drawn to determine who creates this task. Challenge finishers are not eligible for the drawing.

** Each Big Book read and reported during a challenge earns Big Book tickets. For example, if you read four 500+ page books during the challenge, you will receive 4 tickets (one per 500+ page book). If you read two 750+ page books during a challenge, you would also receive 4 tickets (2 tickets per 750+ page book).
** Graphic novels, sequential art books, manga, collections of comic book issues, and collections of comic strips may not be claimed for Big Book tickets.
** If you used an ebook or an audiobook be sure that the link you provide goes to the edition you actually read. You must also include a link to the paper edition used to establish length. See the current challenge rules for the method to determine page numbers.
** You must specifically mention in your completed task post that a book is a Big Book, state how many pages it has, and link to the exact edition you read. Listing the number of pages in a book without mentioning that it is a Big Book is NOT enough. If you claim a 750+ page book but link to an edition that has 749 pages or less, you will be awarded only one Big Book ticket (for a 500+ page book).

From the Challenge Rules:

20.6 IT'S A FACT - Players may earn a ticket for each NONFICTION book read.
