Hopefully the next place will more than make up for it.

Hopefully that will more than make up for the dodgy one Brenda! At least you can laugh about it..... and write a review on trip advisor later!
Oh yes, I'll definitely be writing a review!!! The view out the front is pretty good - we'll just have to sit outside the whole time we're here;)
Just saw that Rita. Disappointed it wasn't A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara, but then I haven't read the book that won.
@Brenda There is nothing worse. Hoping that it's just dodgy and not pest ridden; did you check the mattresses etc? You are brave, I wouldn't even have stepped foot in there, J would have be re-loading the car before he knew what happened to him, lol.Hoping at least for your sake the shower etc is clean.

I don't hate you Rita but I was really hoping A Little Life would win so I'd have an excuse to buy it!!! I don't know anything about the winning book.

The bed was really comfortable (though I didn't sleep that well-18c overnight!) it's not toooooooo bad! We've had worse on one occasion, so we are finding the positives;)

Hubby has banned me ( yet again ) from buying more books but I don't think he realises that I don't really listen to him!!! Lol. I have actually reserved it at the library so I may hold off or hope that a damaged copy appears at work. I just noticed Rita that you couldn't finish it. Do you think you will go back to it? Or is life too short?
Brenda wrote: "Vivian wrote: "Brenda wrote: "Vivian wrote: "I watched Australian Story on ABC last night featuring one of my favourite singers Jenny Morris. Can even give author talks without any problems, although I probably sound a bit like a husky-voiced Marlene Dietrich but not quite as glamourous.
Just returned from Big W (i have Weds off work) and I see they have put up the top 100 books..I'm not entirely sure how long it's been up for..Looks good! I went in wanting jeans (they had diddly squat) and came out with two books and some sketch pads...lol I haven't bought a physical book in forever!!

That's Ok Rita. I can see why people wouldn't like it. It was also a pretty confronting topic but what amazing writing (IMHO!)
I went into KMart last week and all the Christmas trees were up and the shelves stocked with Christmas lights and other goodies! Ugh!! They're just turning us all into the grinch by starting so early. Hard to get into the spirit of a Christmas 3 months early!

I didn't know till now that that's what you do for a job Rita. Must be pretty tough. I'm wondering now if you're planning to read Rosie Batty's book A Mother's Story? I would be very interested to see what you make of it, as someone who works for children's services.
Michael wrote: "Hey guys, i don't know if you remember but at the start of the year we had a film crew at our work. Exciting for you, I like finding links to things like this.

I think you're brave to say how you feel somewhat negatively about a book everyone else seems to rave about. We can't all love/like the same thing. Having now read your further comments, I have to say I often feel like you do about modern literature. For me, quite a few of the modern writers are of simply putting words on paper, there's no artistry of our beautiful English language.
Saying I loved A Little Life feels weird, cos it's hard to love such a difficult subject matter. But I did love Jude and wanted to rescue him so badly, seeming to forget he was 'just' a character in a book. But what a character and what a book.
@Elaine Buy the book!
Glad to hear others don't feel so happy about the Christmas Carols either; by Dec 24th, I'll be so fed up with them, I'll be offering store managers $50 each to turn them off while I'll in the store. Or I'll be committing hari-kuri in Woolies, lol:)

I think I can understand that Rita. And sometimes there's not really a reason it's more a gut feeling. I did struggle with reviewing this one because after having read reviews that gave it 5 stars and all sided with and commended Rosie Batty 100% I was left feeling a bit like a heartless cow!!!! Anyway I guess maybe it is a case of unless you're in the same position you don't really know.

ha,ha!!! Thanks Bette. I think I will buy it eventually and I do agree with your comments. We are all different and react differently to certain books and should be allowed to say so without being "run down". Now I will definitely try to read it. I love a book that polarises people. :)
Hi friends, I have had an anxious 24 hours, Cody (11) was on the way to Dubbo Zoo for an overnight excursion and his bus was involved in an accident. The driver of a car drove into the bus, and was tragically killed. He was on the top level of the bus, front row, centimetres from the glass window. All kids were wearing seatbelts. The school handled it impeccably, constant communication and we were met by a professional team at school today. All the teachers sought me out to advise he saw everything so will need follow up care with counselling etc. He called us last night and was calm but serious, and helped the kids that were injured as thankfully he was not. We'd only just been saying yesterday he's turning into a responsible boy, and that he's a good kid. I'm thankful he is safe and I'm thankful for the teachers that work so hard to care for our children. right now he's watching cricket on TV with the air con on, I'm happy to see that sight.
Oh Suzanne, that's so awful! I'm so glad Cody wasn't injured. Keep an eye on him as he'll probably need counselling for awhile. Poor kid, a shocking thing to happen...
Suzanne - Oh no..how terrible! :( Glad that Cody is okay but yes i agree w/Brenda too. Seat belts are just so important glad that bus had them..been on many school trips where the busses don't.

Sounds like the school did the best they could of a horrific situation. Thoughts with Cody, your family and other kids.
Oh Suzanne, how traumatic for you and your family. What an awful thing to happen. Glad to hear that Cody wasn't hurt but I hope he recovers okay from the shock of seeing the accident and knowing the driver was killed.
Thanks so much ladies, he's very resilient. I've received phone calls from two families (one that chased us up though our business as we don't know them) telling us how helpful he was, he is a beautiful boy and we should be proud of him! It's nice they told us.
A big shock for you all but so good Cody is okay. He sounds as though he has the resilience to cope with this.

No pressure at all, it's just that she needs a few more:)

Hopefully with the counselling and with you to look out for him he will be okay. He sounds like a very brave and mature boy. Take care both of you won't you?
Woohoo! Public holiday coming up next week and I have quite a bit of relief work as well...Yeaaaa!!And as it's soon to be 2am I should be fast asleep but I'm wide awake..urgh! And the rain just kicked in too.
I'm awake too Laura, you're not on your own. Best wishes to your son and his classmates Suzanne. Sounds like your son is a real role model. You'd be surprised how tragedies like this can awaken and ignite a life purpose in someone.
Suzanne, so glad to hear your little man is physically ok, and hope all his friends are too. What a traumatic thing for him and his classmates to experience, and terrible for you all! Stay near to him for awhile, he sounds very brave and strong but that's a big thing to happen to him and will take some time to process. <3
