That was delightful. I think it showed a Labradors true character. And what about the ones who didn't eat the biscuits until their owners shut their eyes? So funny.

I loved the labs, esp the one that just couldn't go past the tennis balls. He was good and ignored the chook and the dog bikkies but tennis balls? Nup, no way!

They were so funny! I loved the one with the tennis balls - reminded me of our kelpie/staffie cross.

Carolyn | 9868 comments It reminded me of my brother in law's kelpie. The minute you walk in and sit down she drops a tennis ball at your feet and looks up at you with those big brown eyes! Impossible to resist!

Oh yes, the big, brown, eyes....beseeching you, following you, making you feel guilty - I am very familiar with them!

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) @Laura I've seen a hairdryer dry out a mobile phone keyboard but don't know if it would work for a tablet.

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) We had a dreadful day here down in SW Victoria, a combination of factors had it brewing as a perfect storm for fire; 36C and winds at 60kph with bursts of 80kph. It was zoned extreme fire danger down here which made me nervous until the cool change blew in at about 3pm.

I could see a faint haze of smoke on the western horizon but presume that was blown in from Port Lincoln fire?

I do worry for people and their belongings in fires but have seen too many sheep etc trapped in the paddocks and burned to death, koalas who don't move fast enough and perish, small wildlife.

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) How nutty is this, and how many people do a similar thing? I have only a little bit left of my internet data, the new quota starts tomorrow. So, I've been hurrying thru my notifications, posting on threads as fast as I can before my usage runs out!

I do the same when low on petrol, drive faster; quilt more quickly when I know I'm short on the fabric I'm using! Think I should be blonde?

Carolyn | 9868 comments You might remember that a week or so ago I mentioned I had been surpsised to see a brush turkey strutting down an urban street full of apartments next to St Leonard's station on Sydney's North shore. Well, I just saw an article about them invading Sydney's back yards: http://thenewdaily.com.au/news/2015/1...

Oh no!! We have those dirty big Ibis' advancing on our neighbourhood. They are very messy and climb into bins etc and pull everything out looking for food scraps. They used to confine themselves to areas where there is likely to be more scraps, like train stations and outside fast food shops in the main streets...now they are wandering around the streets as dirty, slack people leave/chuck their takeaway food bags from their parked cars.
I'm sure these birds now recognise the brand name on the bags and go in search of "fries" etc.

message 22966: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 9868 comments We also have the Ibises (Ibi?) wandering the inner west streets of Sydney. I don't think they're fussy about what they eat (although as you say they do seem to have developed a taste for fast food!). I first saw one or two of them in the parkland around the Cooks river 10 or 12 years ago when my boys played soccer down there. I thought they'd head home when the drought ended but now they're everywhere in huge numbers. I've heard that brush turkeys can be very damaging to gardens.

message 22967: by Sally906 (new)

Sally906 | 89 comments Just remember - like geese - you can say boo to a brush turkey.

You are the boss of your garden!

raise your arms up by your sides and charge at them bellowing! trust me they skedaddle!

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Speaking of wildlife, we had a duck and her ducklings wander into our backyard a week or two ago. Were slightly worried about Tally going and killing them but she basically sat on the back steps and stared at them for the entire day. I think the mother duck intimidated her a bit.

Very cute Liam. On the news this morning they had a piece about firemen rescuing ducklings from a drain. One of them had the whole lot in his helmet.

We sweltered in the mid-30's yesterday before the temperature dropped. Today we're back to a chilly wintry blast. Strong winds fanned several bushfires that broke out in yesterday's heat so I hope the weather stays cool long enough to give the firefighters a chance.

Oh Phrynne I can sympathize, I have been like that since the start of Spring! Some days I couldn't read at all as my eyes were so bad and sore from constant watering. I am beginnng to rattle with the amount of antihistamines I've taken everyday since...sometimes a couple a day. The amount of times I've bitten my tongue sneezing means it's also sore. Come on holidays! :))

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) Welcome, Marianne. How's the infamous jetlag going? <:-) That's about the best face I can make on my laptop:)

message 22994: by Marianne (new)

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9987 comments Hi, everyone. Thanks for the welcomes!
Good to be back: my bed is wonderful and my shower has lovely hot water and pressure!!!
We arrived just after six, but had to wait on the baggage to come through (all those books, no doubt weighing it down, LOL) so didn't get out of the airport until about an hour later.
Did our best to stay awake all day: unpacking, sorting the washing, buying some groceries, etc etc.
Finally succumbed to sleep after a bit of dinner, went to bed about 7.30pm, DH said "see you at 2am".
Slept really well until, you guessed it, 2am. Saw a light on, there he is having a cuppa. What, I said, did you set the alarm? Nah, just the body clock going off.
Anyway, forced myself back to sleep after a read but couldn't really stay in bed after about 4.30, so eventually got on the treadmill (no fun after 6 weeks of laziness! but I have books to read).
Have to get into this time zone: I don't want to fall asleep during the Lit Lunch tomorrow, Magda Szubanski

message 22995: by Marianne (new)

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9987 comments and the other reason I need to get on the treadmill is the extra weight I brought home that was not in the form of reading matter: the pasta pounds, the croissant kilos, six of them, to be exact. Bummer!!

I had a pretty lazy holiday. Strolling around sites is not exercise and I ate more at every meal than usual.

As a Cloggie, I'm interested to hear you're going to Holland: do you have family there? Lots of nice things to eat if you like Dutch food.

The worst part after a lovely holiday Marianne is the extra weight (on our person)!! Never mind, you have lots of determination - I'm sure it'll be gone soon:)
