No but you could put it here Bette - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... - that thread about Project Gutenberg has been there awhile. It'll be good to have this as an extra to it, and draw it to people's attention again:)

Afraid nothing would induce me to eat kangaroo meat. See too many of the sweet faced creatures around our way to ever think of eating any.

I with u there Dale about eating them...although I don't see them all the time!!! I just can't do it...

message 22461: by Neko (new)

So NZ full on banned a book http://www.cnn.com/2015/09/08/asia/ne.... I wonder if they know that now everyone and their dog is going to want to read it now.

Definitely not :) I think it's delicious. It needs to be rare or stewed, though, unless you like eating very tough meat.

Thanks for that Melissa. I needed a banned book for a challenge I am doing so I went straightaway to buy this one. It sounds like a good story and I think I am old enough to handle the rest;)

Well hey then, that worked out well for you. Courtesy of the New Zealand film and literature board.

Has history ever shown book bans to work. It is nuts that book bans still exist in 2015; I say just stick a rating and a warning label on it and leave it be.

message 22469: by Neko (new)

Neko @Melissa I agree with you. Simple warning on the book would be a great idea and then leave it to the general public as to what they do.

Indeed they have; everyone and their dog is going to want that book in NZ now.

Michael wrote: "Don't you love it when a bunch of do gooders try and impose there will on what the rest of us can see and read. :/"

I find it ironic considering 50 shades of Grey exists. Just slap a warning on it and let the public make of it what they will.

message 22473: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Capes | 226 comments Indeed!

A simple sticker would be enough (so long as it's not those crap ones that you need a hair-dryer to remove without tearing the cover :D)

But yes! What a perfect promo boost :)

I'm with you, Dale, in full support. Why are we eating something that is one of our national emblems?

No it doesn't - but other than as salami I can't eat it - has to be cooked very rare to be tender - or casseroled for ours. I find the taste too strong and don't eat any meat that is still red to the point of almost raw!!!

I remember the roast beef my mum use to make - I swear the joint was still moo-ing when she served it at the table ***shudder***

That is a good point. However, we do eat moose in Canada which is a stereotypical Canadian symbol.

Lol, clearly there were not quite enough species of animals that could kill you in Australia. What is one more spider to the list - http://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/....

Oh no, not only do we have to watch for ground funnel webs when digging in the garden but we have to worry about them jumping out of trees? I'm never going bush walking again!!

The nice thing about over here is that any animal that can kill us you can see it coming. Some of your animals scare the pants off me, haha.

My favourite option is to stay inside with a book and avoid the bush.
