Only boring until you actually have to report...let me tell you that is no walk in the park.

That's true too.

I assumed so since Liam works in a library and is often involved with children. I work with younger children and have to keep up to date in this too.

I don't really know about library staff either. I just assumed they must be included in the new moves to make everyone working with children in any way more responsible. Maybe Liam will tell us:)

My hubby had a severe allergic reaction last night - it began with itching and progressed to big welts on his neck and chest, then rapidly advancing all over him. After antihistamines and cream for the itching, he is fine this morning! It was extremely fast acting... we have worked out the pesticides on the grapes he ate are the cause.
My reason for mentioning it is - beware of supermarket grapes (and other fruit) as the pesticide levels are getting worse. He has eaten fruit all his life - grapes are not new to him.. But the reaction was pretty much instant!

Thanks Michael...yes it was certainly weird, and a first as well. Yours is obviously worse if you get it due to tiredness and stress!

That looks and sounds awful, Brenda. Sounds like good reason to wash any fruit and veg thoroughly and hope it gets rid of it all.

Wow. Glad to hear he is now fine... Must have been a bit alarming for you both! And yes - good reason to be vigilant with washing fruit and veg (an area where I am at times slack...!).

Us too Kathryn! And our daughter has continued to nag about washing fruit! I guess the experience is one way of learning...
I hope you did too Tui...apparently grapes are exceptionally bad; I googled it last night and it pretty much says you shouldn't eat them at all unless you a) peel them or b) eat organic!

No Vicki, this was a first! And yes, we were watching for that...I would have called an ambulance if he'd started to have breathing problems:) It was certainly pretty scary...

I put him straight in the car and got him to the hospital..not far. Long story short they had to keep him o/night because he had another reaction to the medication they gave him!
I am almost OC about washing fruit and veg, and hands.
Oh wow! That sounds awful Jools! Lucky YOU acted quickly...it's certainly scary how fast the allergy kicks in!

Wash everything.

It sure is fast!

How scary Julie. I'm like you obsessive about the washing, which my family often tease me about. But that's okay.Better safe than sorry.

Ours has done that with dates as well Julie. I won't buy them at all.

They are a favourite treat of mine but I won't buy them like that either...the kids think they are there to play with!
Lol...by the time they reach the bottom of that lot you will see their own brand of date loaf cakes etc. on special!

I'll just have to stick to my "eat homegrown fruit" rule. Our trees provide us fruit most of the year but last year my persimmon blew down in a gale and I love persimmons, so have been reduced to buying them this year. It hurts! But I still wash even my homegrown organic fruit in case of bird droppings which can carry giardia.(nasty digestive bug)
It's almost citrus season here now. Once they start rolling in, I can more easily forget my persimmon grief. Our lime tree is groaning with fruit, but it's the grapefruit that I get most addicted to. I'm not joking - I go through withdrawals at the end of the grapefruit season. I read somewhere that they actually do have addictive properties.
Sigh! I'm a grapefruit junkie.

That's the only time they ever drag out that old dinosaur Fred Niles, Carolyn, they know he can always be relied upon to hold forth with his non negotiable negative viewpoints. ;)

My mum used to love grapefruit when she was alive...ate it every day without fail, until the dentist informed her it was wearing the enamel off her teeth and if she wanted to continue eating it, she would have to rinse her mouth out with water after she ate it! And yes Phrynne, she was also informed about the affect on some of the medications she took!

My husband had a colleague who thought she was being really healthy eating at least 4 oranges per day until the dentist told her she was wearing her tooth enamel away. I think grapefruit is the only one to avoid with medication but I guess too much of any citrus is probably a bad idea.
The times we think we are being healthy and we're not! The old "hunter/gatherer" days were the best! No preservatives, no added extra rubbish!!! And we wouldn't have needed to eat so much vitamin c back then as there was a lot of variety!

LOL - now I can explain away why I am compelled to search for, gather and stash books.
I can't help it I have FOMAGB!

But in the hunter/gatherer days, there was a greater of chance of being killed by the animal you were hunting (or one you weren't!) or dying because of some (nowadays) easily preventable/curable illness... Six of one, half a dozen of the other...?
LOL! Yes you're right there Kathryn! I just hate the rubbish they put in food - the amount of people with cancer etc!

That's a common condition here Rita!
I'm impressed your 6y old could say that let alone spell it!

It's a bit pot meets kettle though given his little freckled nose is rarely seen outside a book!"
But how good is that to see! Reading adults and kids, love it!

True Julie!!! Do you think I'm contagious enough to mean I should stay away from work?

You could well be Rita, I can't say for sure without a proper consultation but I would definitely prescribe lots of R&R&R...and stay away from Grapefruit for awhile! ;))

Firstly - I eat huge amounts of citrus and all other fruits. We grow our own so its free and I love it so I go for it.
BUT! I recently tried to whiten my teeth and it was impossible to continue the treatment because of my extreme sensitivity of the teeth. The pain was ghastly. Vanity went out the window.
Perhaps I should have linked these two matters before?

I'd say they are definitely connected Tui!!! Unfortunately :(
