Oh yes - the thunder was so loud it made me jump and I usually love storms. And SO much rain.
A belated Merry Christmas to all! Yes, the weather's been rather ordinary in Sydney. Had a very quiet day yesterday lying around watching movies with the kids while the rain came down. That's my kind of Christmas!Santa also left me several new books, so yay! Hope he was good to you all too.

We had a severe thunderstorm here last night and lots of rain! Another hot, humid day today when we had our biggest Christmas day. Quiet relaxing day yesterday with just 3 of us, but 9 today including the kids! So much fun, but everyone has just left and now I'm relaxing with a hot cuppa while I contemplate what's left to clean up:)

Was thinking you must be busy Brenda! Glad you had a nice couple of days. I certainly caught your wave lol. Maybe a chapter or two could be in order, clean up will wait ;)

The festivities are definitely getting in the way of reading Suzanne!!! Haven't read today since breakfast - that was a looonngg time ago;) And it was the same last night;) Never mind - back to normal (hopefully) tomorrow!

Since my last Canon Ixus died in ooh, 2011, I have been relying on my phone, so this was a very welcome gift.

Also got, from my nearest sister a beautiful Bureau of Meteorology Calendar, and from my little sister a book ("to share with Mum") The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society of which I already have 2 copies, and which a dear colleague at work tried to give me a third copy last Christmas. So Mum gets to keep that one, with my blessing, it's a lovely book.
Giving the book whisperer ACTUAL books is almost destined for failure...... a voucher is a much better idea.

Good morning, Marianne. You've reminded me that I have forgotten to buy my usual calender this year:( Book pressies are excellent if you want/love the book. I have had two copies of 'Guernsey Potato Pie...' also; Kept both as one was hardcover (gorgeous) and the other paperback. It is a gorgeous book to read!
if you wait a bit the calendars will drop in price....
Know the feeling Marianne. A friend of mine commented she would' be game to buy me a book! The poetry book by Andrew Lansdown was on a list of several I had requested if anyone asked for ideas, which my dear son did. Maybe I future you could combine a list and then stay away from shops till after Christmas?
Husband and I fulfilled one of our usual Christmas traditions last night,watching the Christmas Eve carols from Myers music bowl. We tape it so we can flip through those bits we do 't want to watch. Less flicking through and more watching this year. Started well with Marina Prior (one of my favourites) and David Hobson. Also loved Sylvie Paladino (hope that is right) Harrison Craig and others. Thought it was the best carols from Melbourne I have seen. Always love the Hallelujah chorus.
Finally sitting down to catch up on Goodreads. What a lovely Christmas we've had. Topped it off by going to see the last Hobbit movie today in our town's brand new cinema!

I did enjoy it. I was wondering how they were going to stretch what was left in the book into 141 minutes. Answer: Much fighting. And a dragon.I was interested to see the bit with Elrond, Galadriel and Saruman - not in the book (as far as I can remember) but foreshadows The Lord of the Rings Movies very cleverly. As did the end of this movie.
I decided after seeing the first one that it was simpler to enjoy the movies and not worry too much about the 'staying completely true' to the books stuff, because it was obvious that in three movies for one relatively small book that it wasn't going to happen.
I enjoyed the character development - particularly Bilbo and Legolas - and thought that the acting was generally of a high standard.

My favourite moment was when one of those giant creatures knocked the city wall down with his head and knocked himself out :)

I agree that the dragon scened was fabulous. So real, and very 'edge of the seat' throughout. I really enjoyed Bard too - it was lovely to see his story given plenty of screen time.

Hey, I just learnt something about the ads on these pages...I got soooo sick of seeing that lady on the treadmill, you know the one?...I noticed an "x" in the top right hand corner and clicked to see if it would go away, not believing for a moment that it would, and it did! :) A note came up with multiple choice answers as to why I didn't like the ad...I chose inappropriate, though offensive was also a possibility.Good One Goodreads! :)

I just noticed that the little "x" I mentioned before changes back and forth between "x" and ">" so you would have to wait before you click on it, lest you get sent to the ad :(I guess I was lucky I pressed while it was on "x". That's a bit sneeky!

On the ipad they are so close to where you hold it that it is a real challenge at times not to press them accidentally! Also everything is so small that its hard to press one thing without getting the thing next to or near it...I cant tell you how many times I have accidentally flagged something and had to cancel it :O when I only wanted to reply :{

Heartened to hear that others dislike ads as much as I do. But I'm still too wary to try to delete them. Thanks for the tip anyway, Julie.
I don't know that its deleted as such Bette, but it is gone...at least on my view, I don't know if others can still see it?? I think it must be like flagging it, and a Goodreads message box came up asking me what I felt was wrong with the ad, giving me the option of several choices of answers to tick. I must say the ad had been putting me off since its arrival and I thought it would have changed by now but...I think that is a very good service of Goodreads, and very supportive, as I know they must rely on advertising to cover costs and I understand they are necessary...sometimes even helpful ;)

I just use Adblock and don't see any ads at all. Sorry GR :( but I NEVER click on any of them so they are not losing anything. I think you can get this on your iPad too because I use it on my Android tablet. Not sure about phones though. Saves worrying about whether clicking on the x of pop ups actually activates the pop up which has happened to me in the past
My computer is showing Bose ads at the top of this page and an arrow which leads to a nonsense spiel and opt out options too long for me to bother reading!
Wow it is summer! For those of you who know the Mornington Peninsula, the roads are in gridlock from Rosebud down to Sorrento the beaches and cafes are packed.

It is about 30 here beautiful and I have lived here for over 20 years and whatever the weather is they come at this time of year. We are only a short trip from Melbourne and they all love camping on the foreshore.
