No humidity here now! The temp is considerably cooler than Caloundra.
Forgot to mention - we arrived back at our unit in Caloundra on Thursday afternoon and were greeted by a butcher bird sitting on our balcony rail. For about 10 minutes he serenaded hubby while he whistled back to it...it was absolutely beautiful; a pity I couldn't have videoed it!

Perfect location Marianne, I will look forward to watching that movie, I loved the book! It has all the qualities of a good movie..lets hope they do it justice.

Might be best to come in winter, Brenda! It might be a bit chilly for swimming, but winter in this part of the world is generally quite nice - as long as you miss the westerly winds (normally August...).

Looks like a really nice little town, Marianne. From what I've seen of early pictures of SW WA it's also quite reminiscent of how that looked back then (my hubby's family are all from around there so I have visited a lot of the local museums and heritage buildings). Do you know if there's a lighthouse at or near Stanley or will they have to film somewhere else for that?

well, the lighthouse in the book was on a remote island so I guess they need to find that location. In Stanley they were removing all traces of modern living: street signs etc. the business people were all very positive about it

I got out of bed fairly early for me and I've been reading ever since...We've had lovely weather but happy to say it's not 33C but only 28C and there is this lovely sea breeze coming into the house so it feels cooler.
However, as I look out I can see this haze..I'm hoping it's nothing to do with a fire :/

That's interesting Marianne. I've also posted a few reviews there in the past, although not for a few months. I tried clicking on books I've reviewed (eg The Collected Works of A. J. Fikry) and only my review comes up but no others (and I know there were others).
I tried clicking on a few popular books I haven't reviewed but I'm sure others have (eg Gone Girl) and you no longer see any customer reviews linked to the books but you might get a 'review quote' box. Seems like they're being selective about what they want us to see?

We can but hope!

Could be Marianne, but I think they may also have changed the way they use reviews. If you look at Gone Girl for example the "review quotes" are all from magazines and newspapers. No blogs or customer quotes or customer ratings.

We were at the nut about 5 years ago. Was disappointed because the chairlift was closed. Have some wonderful photos taken around it though - at the convict ruins.

I haven't put reviews on book depository. I can see others reviews on there on the few books I had a look at.

But
There was an Aussie author on and I didn't catch her name but she writes for older children a series about a 9 year old in a boarding school.
Ring any bells with anyone?

But Carolyn, there are so many editions of Gone Girl and each one, when you click on it, has reviews by different customers. One of the editions I noticed has a review by Shelly Cusbert (Our own Shellyrae, I'm pretty sure), and I did notice one with no customer reviews, just magazine quotes, as you say.
who knows?

Aaah Marianne, you are so right! You're further sleuthing has revealed that there is nothing sinister afoot at BD. My mistake looking at a recent release! I'm glad all is well and hopefully they will bring back the option of adding a customer review or the new books won't have any.

Maybe M.A. McRae of the Pennwinnard stories, the latest Lionel's Wedding #4 was released in Sept. this year. They are all about young boys in a home.

Thanks, everyone, for helping. :)"

Thanks, Brenda :)
Just came back from seeing the new movie Interstellar. It was pretty good but not fantastic. The trailers for the Hunger Games and The Hobbit both looked good.

It was Jacqueline Harvey and the first book in the series was Alice-Miranda at School which is now safely in my eReader :)
Taken a list of the other suggestions though

I have seen her books around though.

Not sold on the Mockingjay trailer, and I've long since given up on The Hobbit. Looking forward to seeing Interstellar, though its not a priority at the moment. As far as movies go I can't wait for Foxcatcher and Inherent Vice early next year.

Jess, I flagged that Indonesian post, there are a few of them, all spam.

Yes Marianne - two new threads here in this group I deleted and contacted GR support about the profile and group he'd formed. Thanks for the heads up:)

Hubby says these are computer generated thingys, but what I can't figure out is how they think they would get any business from posting in an Australian group for what they are advertising. Just bizarre.
Extremely bizarre - it's the second we've had since we've been a featured group! I thought that only lasted a month, but we're still featured...

When did the feature start though? Was it right on the 1st of Oct?

I was thinking of buying that for my hubby for Christmas. He doesn't read a lot but seems to enjoy biographies.

I think it would be a really interesting read. He's had quite a colourful life and met some amazing people as well as his near death accident. We're selling quite a few copies at work. Where are you off to/coming back from Suzanne?

Dogs are locked inside (much to their disgust) hoping he will wander back out again. But at the moment he seems quite happy where he is :0

No, about 3rd-5th - that's why we're wondering if it goes longer than a month...
